Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

The Detroit Red Wings have played their home games at Little Caesars Arena in the heart of downtown Detroit since the 2017–2018 season. Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams — the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL) — in one downtown core in the country.

    Incredible

by Redranger1981 on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Being a huge hockey fan since I was a kid, it has always been on my bucket list to be able to see a game with one of the Original 6 teams and to be able to see two teams out of the six for one game was a dream come true. Great arena, great atmosphere. Unbelievable experience and I will never forget it.

    NHL VS AHL

by Just a fan on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

I felt like I was taken around the corner and robbed. I understand that it was preseason, but to have the Leafs only play a few regulars and to bring a total AHL lineup was a little too much. The sad thing is that the Wings just barely beat them.

I attended the first home pre season game. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was so much fun! Lots of crowd interactions, giveaways and of course the Wings played great! All staff were kind and helpful! Can’t wait to go to another game!

    Red Wings vs Penguins

by Steviey1972 on 4/11/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

The arena and the game experience were great but paying almost $200 to sit about 5 rows from the top of the arena is a bit much. Ticket prices throughout the arena need to be more family-friendly. I paid $107 apiece for 2 tickets and sat on the glass in Ottawa about 3 weeks ago. Once again, game experience and the arena were wonderful but ticket prices are way too high.

by rcrp on 3/21/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Great venue and lively atmosphere. Nice seating. Game was good for first two periods but was over quickly in the third. Overall, however, first trip to Little Caesars Arena, and it didn't disappoint.

    Absolutely Loved It

by Jay on 3/15/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

It was the best time ever I really like how they keep it exciting but one thing I don’t really care for is how expensive the food is that’s a little crazy

    Great venue!

by steph on 3/15/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

I was here to watch my Boston Bruins beat the Wings. Well, that didn't happen, but we had a great time, nonetheless! Everyone we met on staff was friendly and courteous; everyone worked to make our visit a wonderful experience. One usher told us we must go visit the Gondola, and directed us to the elevator. What a view!!!! YEOWZA Had a fun conversation with the organist while being amazed. The concessions prices were not terrible - I was expecting worse. And best of all was the very short line to the ladies' rest room after the game! Except for our loss, it was a fantastic afternoon!

The game was great they won the arena is great also

by Dee on 3/15/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

The only issue was that parking prices are a big rip off come on 50 dollars even 30 is too much. You should be ashamed that this is allowed.

The game experience was great like it always.

by Joe on 3/15/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Exiting the street lot was slow and took 30 minutes to get out. Not a well organized exit from the parking lot.

    Great Game, Great Venue!

by Ted on 3/13/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

We took my dad to his first hockey game at the new Little Caesars arena. he had a great time! The game was great the arena was great, but for some reason they have now made the parking structures only accessible with parking passes. This wasn't the case previous times we've gone. We parked in a lot run by the team, but there was no direction after the game and it took 45+ minutes to get out of the lot.
