About

DAVID SEDARIS ON TOUR:

Beloved humorist and perennial New York Times best-seller David Sedaris has been bringing his signature self-deprecation to both the page and the stage ever since his comic debut in the late-'70s. Sedaris's live shows are equal parts touching and uproarious, taking his childhood trials and tribulations as a starting point and going on to tackle everything from his eccentric family to American politics. Fans of witty, irony-laden anecdotes are in for a treat as Sedaris hits concert halls around the country with his latest show An Evening with David Sedaris.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born to a large family in Binghamton, NY, Sedaris experienced a turbulent childhood that has informed his comedy ever since. After being discovered at a Chicago comedy club in the late '70s by Ira Glass, Sedaris began appearing regularly on Glass's weekly radio program The Wild Room, making a name for himself with his wry, self-effacing stories . In 1992 he made his National Public Radio debut with a reading of "SantaLand Diaries", a hilarious recounting of his days working as a holiday elf at a department store. Since then he has been a regular guest on NPR's This American Life, landed on the New York Times Best Seller list with five essay collections, and received a Grammy nod for his 2004 comedy album Live at Carnegie Hall. Back on tour, the ever-gracious Sedaris will treat fans to another round of laughs at his expense.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"We expected it to be great and he exceeded our expectations. I have not laughed so much in ages. Wonderful! "

"I laughed so much I almost missed what was being send in between punch lines! He has a true gift and I'm so grateful he shares it with the world on these tours! Hands down worth every penny!"

"The best part is that for everyone who has read all of his published work, the shows are always full of new material that has yet to be published; so, it never feels like you've paid just to hear a reading of something that's on bookstore shelves."

    Charming and Funny

by Will on 4/27/24Orpheum Theater - New Orleans

This was my first experience with David Sedaris. I’ve not read his books nor watched his interviews. My girlfriend, however, has been a super fan of his since the 90’s. This trip to see him began as a gift to her, but ended up being just as much a gift to myself. Mr. Sedaris’ voice and manner of speaking are disarming and endearing. His sense of humor is both subtle and sharp, and he doesn’t shy away from the controversial or the offensive. He doesn’t use either of those things merely for comedic effect or a cheap laugh. He’s just refreshingly honest and open. He doesn’t soften his own edges or hide his own vulnerability. His essays took me back to my own childhood, and made me nostalgic for my own memories and experiences. Afterwards, he signed his books for over two hours until everyone who stood in line had a chance to meet him. The line wasn’t that long, but Mr. Sedaris took a very generous amount of time with every visitor, truly engaging with them and refusing to let them go until he had connected with them on some personal level. Those few minutes were the highlight of the evening. Cannot wait to get home and begin reading my first David Sedaris book.

    David is🎉

by MJ on 4/11/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

David is amazing! He signs books (talking to each signer) both the event, reads for nearly an hour and a half, and then signs and talks to each person in line after the show! Best of all is how personal, how moving, and how funny his material is. What an experience!

    What a fun evening!

by S&A Smith on 4/11/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This was a gift for my husband and we had such a fun date night out. We both love David Sedaris. We listen to him on NPR and read his writings, so it was a wonderful experience to get to see him in person. We laughed all night long. Much needed and much appreciated. Thanks David!

    David kills

by mwsquared on 11/16/23San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I laughed the entire evening, except when I was crying. (First Love) The outfit, the delivery, the timing, the irreverence… priceless. Food for the soul. Much appreciated. I did not use ChatGPT to write this.

    Couldn't Hear Him

by SAG on 11/16/23San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

We sat in row 6 center, and we could not hear him for two reasons. 1. He is soft-spoken and his microphone was not loud enough, and 2. Many attendees seemed to anticipate his punch lines and started to laugh before he spoke them. Very disappointed. We had friends in another location farther back and had the same experience.

David Sedaris is awesome. He took time to sign everyone's book and even have a moment with them. He has the best wit and outlook on life.

    Excellent Show Logistics Need Work

by Sarah on 10/30/23State Theatre - Minneapolis

I was not sure what to expect. David Sedaris is such an entertaining writer; would his show be equivalent? Hell yah!!! Amazing fun throughout. Appreciated the essay's he shared and the questions he took at the end. Would go again in a moment. The Minneapolis State Theater was not conducive to the book signing pre and post-show. The traffic of the lobby converged with those trying to get a book signed and those trying to enter/leave. A small inconvenience but would suggest the signing be placed somewhere not at the front door. Thank you for asking.,

Loved this show and can't wait to see David Sedaris again! What a generous, charming, and funny gentleman. In addition to his hilarious show, I was impressed at how long he spent signing books before and after. A class act.

    Great Event

by Vickster on 10/11/23Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

David Sedaris was hilarious. My cheeks hurt afterwards from laughing. And I loved his outfit; colorful puffy culottes. He is an extremely talented writer and a gifted entertainer. Though some of his humor is dark, his compassion as a human being show through.

    David Never Disappoints

by Squirrel Girl on 10/10/23Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

This was my third time (or 4th?) seeing David. Any fan of his already knows what they will get from him; unique observations and much hilarity. He’s also incredibly generous, spending time before AND after the shows, signing books for the long lines of fans.

David Sedaris does not disappoint. The style of his essays translates perfectly to his in-person speaking events. And his support of other writers and artists, highlighting talent that should be spotlighted is great. I really enjoyed the evening.

    What a Sweetheart

by Michael on 10/8/23Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

David Sedaris is an entertainer at heart. He even dresses up for his readings — in Comme des Garçons edgy outfits no less. I love the way he reads his works on stage, tinged with irony but never mean. There are always plenty of laughs too. Perhaps the craziest thing he did was sign books after the show until 1am. And he draws pictures in your copies with different colored markers and engages you in conversation while he does so. He’s utterly charming. You must go seem him in person.

Amazing First Time at Comedy Show

by Jacquelyn on 10/8/23Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

I didn’t really know what to expect. I’m going to my first comedy show. However, I got tickets from someone who couldn’t make it and figured I would go. I went with my mother. My mother had never been to a comedy show before either. We were laughing out loud by the end. It was really nice to meet David as well. Amazing experience!

Mr. Sedaris is a treasure. If I were as eloquent I could elaborate. I am not. Just take any opportunity to see him speak!
