About

DAVID SEDARIS ON TOUR:

Beloved humorist and perennial New York Times best-seller David Sedaris has been bringing his signature self-deprecation to both the page and the stage ever since his comic debut in the late-'70s. Sedaris's live shows are equal parts touching and uproarious, taking his childhood trials and tribulations as a starting point and going on to tackle everything from his eccentric family to American politics. Fans of witty, irony-laden anecdotes are in for a treat as Sedaris hits concert halls around the country with his latest show An Evening with David Sedaris.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born to a large family in Binghamton, NY, Sedaris experienced a turbulent childhood that has informed his comedy ever since. After being discovered at a Chicago comedy club in the late '70s by Ira Glass, Sedaris began appearing regularly on Glass's weekly radio program The Wild Room, making a name for himself with his wry, self-effacing stories . In 1992 he made his National Public Radio debut with a reading of "SantaLand Diaries", a hilarious recounting of his days working as a holiday elf at a department store. Since then he has been a regular guest on NPR's This American Life, landed on the New York Times Best Seller list with five essay collections, and received a Grammy nod for his 2004 comedy album Live at Carnegie Hall. Back on tour, the ever-gracious Sedaris will treat fans to another round of laughs at his expense.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"We expected it to be great and he exceeded our expectations. I have not laughed so much in ages. Wonderful! "

"I laughed so much I almost missed what was being send in between punch lines! He has a true gift and I'm so grateful he shares it with the world on these tours! Hands down worth every penny!"

"The best part is that for everyone who has read all of his published work, the shows are always full of new material that has yet to be published; so, it never feels like you've paid just to hear a reading of something that's on bookstore shelves."

    Oodles of irreverent belly laughs

by CosmosMariner on 10/9/09Greensboro Coliseum Complex - Greensboro

David Sedaris has a STRONG following. People waiting to buy books after his performance stretched from one end of the auditorium's foyer to the door at the other end. Rarely did he cross from the healthily irreverent to the appropriate (this from one who loathes the righteous unction of the politically correct). Big recommendation!

David Sedaris: Smart, funny and a little naughty

by brianNC on 10/9/09Greensboro Coliseum Complex - Greensboro

David Sedaris was awesome as always. He is so worth seeing. He does not read any of published works, so you get fresh, witty, funny, naughty stories some based in his life, some just writings of his. Well work seeing! He also commits to signing every single book someone has no matter how long it takes. Sometimes staying at venues long into the night.

    Good but Short

by hortonstar on 10/6/09University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

I liked the readings from his own work, but I didn't like the readings from the "book for sale" after the event. I mean I love the "book for sale," he just reminded me of an inarticulate pitchman at the end. I know that sounds harsh but overall he really was interesting.

    Sedaris is Fantastic!

by DMKH on 10/5/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

This event was wonderful! David Sedaris was fantastic in person, very witty and kept the audience on their toes. He stayed to sign everyone's books afterwards, and was charming and personable. The only downside to the event was that the theater's website and phone directions were wrong, and I spent the first 20 minutes driving around trying to find it.

    I <3 David Sedaris

    by NRG1 on 10/5/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Had the pleasure of "spending an evening" with David Sedaris at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA last night. I've been a fan for years and purchased tickets the moment I learned about the show: 10/28/08. It was worth the wait. He signed books, etc. prior to and after the event and was as funny as I imagined. Great time.

    Sedaris was great!

David was wonderful. His stories make you laugh because in real life you might want to say or react to situations the way he described them.

    Deep down laughin

by jeppa88 on 10/2/09University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

Sedaris moves your core when he pitches his tales at you. I am still broken in a deep down smile. The depth and wit of his humor are a perfect paring.

    Wonderful, as usual, but then....

by griffen on 10/2/09University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

I am a HUGE fan of David Sedaris. I have seen him multiple times, and enjoy his books and CDs over and over. The show was really enjoyable in his usual style until his book recommendation. In discussing the book, from the 'Onion' staff, he read excerpts that discribed staving Ethiopians and other horribe events. He laughed hysterically throughout this. Many in the audience (including my group) appeared uncomfortable. This was totally out of his usual mode. Very frat boyish. Then, over ond over he giggled 'nasty book, nasty bool'. Creepy

    I love Sedaris

by maui2soon on 10/2/09University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

David Sedaris is one of the writing/comedy geniuses of our time. No one can match his wit and insight into his own and the human condition. This was the second of I think he said 38 or 40 stops on this tour. The material is not polished yet, as he said he will refine the act as he goes along, the timing and material so far are not quite up to his usual standards. But don't get me wrong, he is as endearing and brilliant as ever....I think he might want to offset some of the acid, hostile material with more of his personal relationship stuff--brother, sister, partner references for balance and relief from the angry affect.

David Sedaris once again did not disappoint - even though we were told the show would be better a few more into the tour!! He has quick wit - a great delivery and the best humor!
