DAVID SEDARIS ON TOUR:
Beloved humorist and perennial New York Times best-seller David Sedaris has been bringing his signature self-deprecation to both the page and the stage ever since his comic debut in the late-'70s. Sedaris's live shows are equal parts touching and uproarious, taking his childhood trials and tribulations as a starting point and going on to tackle everything from his eccentric family to American politics. Fans of witty, irony-laden anecdotes are in for a treat as Sedaris hits concert halls around the country with his latest show An Evening with David Sedaris.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born to a large family in Binghamton, NY, Sedaris experienced a turbulent childhood that has informed his comedy ever since. After being discovered at a Chicago comedy club in the late '70s by Ira Glass, Sedaris began appearing regularly on Glass's weekly radio program The Wild Room, making a name for himself with his wry, self-effacing stories . In 1992 he made his National Public Radio debut with a reading of "SantaLand Diaries", a hilarious recounting of his days working as a holiday elf at a department store. Since then he has been a regular guest on NPR's This American Life, landed on the New York Times Best Seller list with five essay collections, and received a Grammy nod for his 2004 comedy album Live at Carnegie Hall. Back on tour, the ever-gracious Sedaris will treat fans to another round of laughs at his expense.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"We expected it to be great and he exceeded our expectations. I have not laughed so much in ages. Wonderful! "
"I laughed so much I almost missed what was being send in between punch lines! He has a true gift and I'm so grateful he shares it with the world on these tours! Hands down worth every penny!"
"The best part is that for everyone who has read all of his published work, the shows are always full of new material that has yet to be published; so, it never feels like you've paid just to hear a reading of something that's on bookstore shelves."
Mr. Sedaris is a treasure. If I were as eloquent I could elaborate. I am not. Just take any opportunity to see him speak!
Mr. Sedaris always puts on a great show! He's funny and personable, and kind. If you love his books, you'll love seeing him in person. Bring a book, or buy one in the lobby. He'll sign it for you afterwards, staying until the last person is seen, no matter how long. He is that humble. And he doesn't just rush you out. He learns something personal about each person he speaks with, which makes me admire him all the more!
Ok, to each her own, but it is such a pleasure; a gut- busting laugh -filled pleasure to hear David read his work! His outlook is so unique, so intelligent, so eye-opening in the best way. What an inspiring human.
Loved the show. Parking was great, staff were great, venue was great. Tickets were a little expensive but he was fabulous. First time I saw him live, finally, after several tries. Good time!
David Sedaris is a great writer and reader of his stories. Really enjoyed listening to him!
He never fails to please and this time was no different! An uproariously funny, on point evening. David Sedaris exposes the nuances of life’s ridiculousness perfectly. We loved the show and love him!
great seat - and he never fails to be a terrific listen
Great evening spent all around with Mr. Sedaris. David's renown satire and commentary on everyday ordinary life not only continues to make one laugh, but gives insight into the absurdity of mundane daily routines and encounters. With a dash of sociology, David Sedaris creates a recipe filled with complex human emotions and feelings, and boils it down into a common human experience that almost everyone can relate to in their lives. The humor and sarcasm give David's final dish an added punch of unexpected pleasure in the reflection of ourselves in the human race. Our Saturday night event with David on May 20, 2023 at The Town Hall in N.Y.C. was especially funny, as David gave us a selection of essay's that dealt with our children, and the sometimes very strange generation they have become from all of the ridiculous social-media, events, and cultural norms that have been placed on them by our generation, and generations before them. His satire and wit, once again, shined through on what we all as a society have become. And as always, his essays and messages caused us not only to think, but to reflect on what truly matters, and whether we are living a good existence or not. My wife and I were extremely pleased with David Sedaris' performance, and his ability to entertain, make us laugh; and above all, make us think. In a world of too many choices, and not enough substance, well done Mr. Sedaris. You knocked it out of the park once again. Don't wait, purchase your tickets now to see David Sedaris live. You won't regret it! Enjoy! Eric from Harding
I haven’t laughed out loud with thousands of others laughing out loud in a 1,000 years!
This was my third time seeing David Sedaris do a reading at Townhall in New York City. I finally remembered that he always does a book signing before, and after the show so this time I remembered to bring my favorite book of his. I was the first in line to have him sign it before the show, and he was so sweet and personable. In addition to signing his name, he will also create some kind of original drawing for you in your books, so that you go home with something personal and special. His show this evening was typically hilarious, moving and insightful. I never get tired of him. Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys his books.
I adore this man! He is my favorite writer and I can’t get enough of his stories. His musings on life are so irreverent and laugh out loud funny.
David Sedaris has a unique ear and eye for everyday experiences. His observations had us in tears from laughing so much. He says what we think by don’t dare to say.
Excellent show and venue! David Sedaris is the best!
Skip going to see stand up comedians and see David Sedaris. He is smart, a unique observer of the human condition and funny as hell.
I have been a an if David Sedaris for years but have never seen a reading live. This was phenomenal. He has the ability to touch on topics that would offend if discussed by others in a funny, fun, and hilarious way. This event was a joy to experience. I fully recommend seeing him however and whenever you can and reading his wonderful books.
The event was much more fun that I anticipated and I am a fan for 25 years if not more! One thing I regret is that I couldn't get properly the name of the Irish writer/comedian genetleman who opened for him and can't find any information either. I would very much appreciate if anyone lets me know :)
I’ve never seen him in concert but have listened to audio books. He was hilarious and some of the jokes and one liners were memorable. He likes to push the edges of your comfort with topics but that’s the point right?
Haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. David is a genius. He puts into words what many of us are thinking about the world today but can’t articulate clearly, and he does it in a way that will make you pee your pants laughing.
Sedaris was wonderfully charming, smart, and funny. Having listened to most of his (audio)books, I was grateful I got to hear a lot of in-progress essays and new material. He read and performed for 1.5+ hours and if felt like the perfect amount of time. He fielded questions from the audience and was just great overall.
Another wonderful experience with David Sedaris. Honesty, hilarity, curiousity, and overall awesomeness. It is always a treat to hear the words in the author’s voice.
