Buffalo Sabres History

The Sabres joined the NHL in the 1970 expansion, and just two years later embarked on a streak that saw them reach the playoffs in 12 of the next 13 seasons. Leading the way were "The French Connection" line of Hall of Fame center Gilbert Perreault, left-wing Rick Martin, and right-wing René Robert. The Quebec-born trio was together in Buffalo from 1972 through 1979. Aided by Craig Ramsay, the Sabres and their French Connection advanced to the 1975 Stanley Cup Final in  their fifth season, though they fell in six games to the Philadelphia Flyers.

In the following 10 seasons, all of which resulted in playoff berths, the Sabres captured two division titles. Fueled by defenseman (and former U.S. Olympic star) Mike Ramsey, the Sabres made nine playoff appearances between the 1981–1982 and 1991–1992 seasons. Later, during goaltender Dominik Hasek's nine seasons, the Sabres continued to be a consistent playoff team. In 1999, they dispatched the Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs to again reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where they fell to the Dallas Stars in six games.

In 2006 and 2007 the Sabres made it as far as the conference finals before succumbing to the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators, respectively. To date, the Sabres have been in the playoffs 29 times, winning six divisional championships and three conference titles.

    Best sport event ever!

by Girl hockey fan on 12/12/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Best sport event ever attended! Great atmosphere, lot's of food options, and good music during the game. Only downfall, wished the seats were a bit wider with arms further apart.

    Terrible no purse policy.

    by Craneguy67 on 12/12/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Keybank centre has a ridiculous no purse policy. Makes no sense and inconvenienced us and caused an unpleasant experience prior to the game.

    Great experience watching the Sabres

by Nicole on 11/28/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

The stadium makes you feel like there are bad seats. We were in the last row of the stadium at the halfway point of the ice and we were able to see everything very clearly. Highly recommend! Security was also very efficient which made entry very easy

    Seats not as described

by Duperdog on 11/27/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Disappointed as the seats were not on the aisle as advertised. Otherwise decent leg room, but very close together.

    Buffalo Sabres Game

by Bill K on 11/17/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Went to a recent Sabres game vs the Bruins. Buffalo has a nice arena. There are some good food options at the arena. I’ve had Beef on Weck in the past. I’m a big hockey fan so I had a great time.

    200 level seats food

by Review time on 11/14/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

No advantage to be In 200 level for getting better Tasting food/wine options - food Terrible and they serve food in cardboard boxes with plastic cutlery so there is no advantage to purchasing 200 level tickets. It is the same as being in any other section. We tried the Lexus club (because the food was terrible at the 200 level during the Colorado game) and it had good buffet that tasted good and a good wine selection by the bottle. We had Cakebread Chardonnay. The service was very good. Very good idea to have individual salads and individual pasta dish for people to pick up. We were season ticket holders in the 200 level years ago because it had good food served on plates with real cutlery, good wine by the bottle and the food tasted good. That is not the case this year. Very disappointing. The band was terrible at the Colorado game. The band was good at the Philadelphia game.

    Buffalo Sabres game

by Bobster on 11/13/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Enjoyed the game at Keybank Center. We were in the 3rd level in the highest row but the view and sight lines were great. All the fans in our row were great. The only negative is the prices being charged for food and drink. Would definitely go back in the future

The game was close and Devon Levi was spectacular in the crease!! It felt like the Sabres of old…the players gave it 150% effort! It was a well deserved victory! Looking forward to coming back soon!! Go Sabres! 🏒

    Excellent Experience

by Donny on 11/13/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Game was great for my first time, great atmosphere. No issues getting in without any wifi connection (have no data on phone). Prepaid parking made it easier to get in without any headaches. Overall we had great fun, definitely a must go event if in Buffalo.

    Roll Buffalo

by Lee on 11/9/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Love from Canada, I love the sabers, and the KeyBank center, even the 300 section has great views for the game, it was a bad game from Buffalo, but I always enjoy coming out to support and watch my favorite team play.

Spent $1,500 to see Sabers not even show up to play

by JFranz on 11/8/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Family (2 from KS, 3 from Southern Tier) got tickets to Buffalo Sabers. 3 goals against in first 10 min, never got better, never showed any emotion, just a horrible experience as a fan of hockey. At no point did Sabers look like they cared. I will never go back. I don't mind seeing a team lose, but to lose due to lack of caring; who wants to pay $1,500 to see that?

    They lost:(. Still great time

by One Buffalo on 11/6/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

The usher in our section was awesome. He got the crowd rallied and laughing. All staff was great from concessions to ticket takers. Sabres list but I still enjoyed the evening !! Go Bill’s, Go Sabes!

    Great arena and energy

by Fan of the sport on 11/2/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Although I am not a fan of the Buffalo Sabres and was there to support the Colorado Avalanche. The game was exciting, the Sabres played very well and won the game. The arena was clean, comfortable with lots to do and see. The staff were very courteous and easily found to offer help. The fans were respectful of one another and there were many families with young kids in the crowd. Looking forward to returning to see another game, if even just to watch the game. Finally....the tickets are very affordable compared to games in Toronto.

    Disappointing

by Sandy on 11/1/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

It’s terrible that you are not allowed to bring a purse in the arena. Music is too loud. $12 for a very small cotton candy out of a machine!

Nice Venue, Good Service, Fun Entertainment

by CurlerGirlTO on 11/1/23KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Overall it was a great experience, lots of parking nearby, at reasonable pricing. Easy entry, fast, and clear policies for what is allowed/not allowed in with you. Easy to find our seats and staff was on hand and helpful throughout. Food was typical arena food and pricing, staff again were great, and lines moved at a decent pace. Washrooms were clean and plentiful. Entertainment while watching the hockey game was good in between plays. Always kept the crowd going. 2 small drawbacks: only 1 escalator on the way up to the 3rd floor (and elevator), and once you are up on the 3rd level you are kind of stuck there until the game is over and they switch the direction of the escalator - so as a first time attendee we wanted to find our seats, and then explore, and the only way to go back down to the main areas etc.. was to wait 10 minutes + for the elevator, and then it wasn't clear which floor you were going to on the elevator. Minor inconvenience, but would've been nice to know before we arrived. And also huge traffic jam to leave at the end of the game when you only have 1 escalator headed down from 3rd level. 2nd minor issue - getting out of a parking lot afterwards is always an adventure, at any arena and big event, but where we parked it took over an hour for us to even move a few car lengths, due to no structure/process for vehicles leaving. Needs to be more traffic control within the lots directly people to avoid this - there were no more than a couple hundred cars in our lot, no reason it should take over an hour to move just a few car lengths. Great experience overall, but plan for 2 hours or so to leave afterwards, due to delays getting out of the venue with only 1 way down from the 3rd floor, and then the parking lot issues.
