About

8ball & MJG In Concert

Southern rap from the 1990s may as well be its own planet of music, and two of that planet's leaders are surely 8Ball & MJG, the American hip-hop duo from Memphis, Tennessee. After meeting at Ridgeway Middle School in 1984, they toiled in the underground rap scene for years, eventually striking big with a decade-long run of hard-hitting albums.

Their first coup was the underground hit Listen to the Lyrics, released in 1993. Two years later they dropped their first official LP for Suave House, Comin' Out Hard, an early blockbuster in the Southern rap genre. It reached No. 40 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Riding the wave of that hit, the group released On Top of the World in 1995, which positively blew them up: it reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album featured E-40 and Mac Mall, as well as former Geto Boy Big Mike. Its cover was designed by Pen & Pixel Graphics, who would go on to work with No Limit Records and Cash Money Records. Their cut-and-paste style is instantly recognizable to anyone who listened to any Southern rap in the ‘90s or ‘00s. On Top of The World also contained 8Ball & MJG's first charting single, "Space Age Pimpin," which reached No. 58 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks list and charted at No. 22 on Hot Rap Singles. Riding the fire of that album, they both released solo albums in the coming years. 8Ball's Lost went platinum, reaching No. 5 on Billboard 200 and No. 3 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It featured Too $hort and MJG.

The group would go on to be featured on Three 6 Mafia's "Stay Fly" in 2005, which peaked at No. 13 on the Hot 100, becoming one of the biggest hits any of the rappers had seen. In 2008, 8Ball & MJG signed with T.I.'s label Grand Hustle, releasing Ten Toes Down in 2010. It reached No. 36 on the Billboard 200 and featured T.I., Slim Thug, Bun B, and others.

    Ball & G

    by SP on 11/21/23

First time seeing eight ball and MJG. I’ve been trying to see these guys for years, so always seem to miss them in my area. Traveled to Louisville in June and was not able to see them due to wristbands not being available for the gold ticket area of the venue. The venue wasted everyone in that area's time. By the time we got in to sit down, Ball & G were performing their last song lSpace age Pimpin. Had to travel back to my hometown Cincinnati to see them and they did not disappoint. Definitely want to see them again, specifically in Memphis.

More 8 ball and MJG songs please.

by Ten toes down 4Lyfe on 11/19/23

Cincinnati last show. I drove from the D, specifically to see 8ball and MJG. Schedule conflicta limited my ability to see them while at the Aretha, Chicago and Cleveland. While I enjoyed the other artists, I expected more songs and was so eager from 8ball & MJG and a legend to close the show. I loved their performance so much that I've decided to look for them performing next year in the South. Preferably Memphis, Ten.

    Opening Act

    by JohnnyB on 7/5/23

I didn't like the fact that they were the opening act. No way they should have opened for Xzibit.

Pre paid parking was a joke

by J. S. on 6/23/23Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - Mableton

I paid $20 extra for parking when I purchased my tickets. The attendant stated that my ticket had to say VIP parking to park in the paid lot. My ticket said parking included!!! Not sure what the problem was bring that it was free parking in the other location. I want my $20 back.
