What will it take to get two dozen powerfully passionate, exceedingly complicated, and all-too-human individuals to settle their differences, while they hold the very future of a nation in their hands? The Tony Award-winning Best Musical 1776 catapults to blazing new life in a thrillingly new production from directors Jeffrey L. Page (Violet) and Diane Paulus (Waitress). New York Magazine/Vulture says, "it's an absolute blast!" Suddenly, the songs, humor, and passion of this musical masterpiece soar as never before. A glorious cast that reflects multiple representations of race, gender, and ethnicity portray the fiery founders of this country, putting history in the hands of the humans who were left out the first time around--and the result is an epic show of passion, debate, and roof-raising musical fireworks. Experience "a 1776 worth celebrating!" (Variety) "It pulsates with energy and snaps with attitude." You may never think about our country--who we are and why--the same way again.

The touring group is amazingly talented. I saw the movie from 70s but seeing it live was well worth it!
Much of the dialogue and some of the singing was unable to be heard in the dress circle seats. John Adams character in particular and most of the other characters.
I was so excited to see this show, and it was met with such disappointment. I have walked out of only one show in my entire life - this was my second. The storyline plot was okay - and I am a avid history lover. I am supportive of inclusivity in the Theatre industry, but this was just not it. I don't understand casting females to playing male roles, but then attempting to change their voice to fit the male sound? I've seen better High School plays than this. I left prior to intermission, and there were large groups of people who did as well. Don't recommend seeing this, personally.
Love the revival of 1776. Once again, the patrons of the civic theater were incredibly rude. Arriving late, using phones, rummaging through purses, and talking during the performance.
Buried below the fold on each description of 1776 is that this is a ‘diverse,’ 100% female cast. They describe themselves as men multiple times throughout the play. It comes off as utterly delusional and pathetic. You will be always aware you’re watching a progressive statement masquerading as entertainment, and YOU WILL BE BORED!!!
During the whole production the sound was not loud enough. I couldn’t hear the music that well nor the artisits’ voices. It was sad that not a single employee noticed and fixed the issue or even addressed it. Next time, test the sound before the show
Audio unclear, we left at intermission along with a significant crowd also walking out with us
wonderful, amazing show by a non-male cast. Intense, funny at times, and revealing insights into our founding fathers deliberations. Loved it.
I enjoyed this show. It wasn't a typical show. The cast was all women, or people who identify as such, and racially diverse, playing the roles of almost all white men (just a couple of exceptions). The music was enjoyable, but the singing demonstrated a lot of talent from these actors. I think people who have open minds are the ones who enjoyed it. People who did not find it appealing, I have found to be right-leaning politically. My only complaint was that it was a bit too long at 2 hours and 40 minutes.
I surprised my husband with tickets for Christmas. He loved the show.
