About

TV ON THE RADIO IN CONCERT:

Acclaimed Brooklyn indie band TV on the Radio thrilled fans in late 2014 with the release of Seeds, their first album since the 2011 death of their bassist Gerard Smith. The record was a triumph for the band on numerous fronts -- a tribute to a departed friend, a commitment to pressing on, and, in the opinion of frontman Tunde Adebimpe, their finest work to date. Critics and fans agreed, applauding the album's potent blend of synthpop and art rock and hailing tracks like "Happy Idiot" and "Careful You" as instant classics. TVOTR are a powerhouse live act known for their technical virtuosity and effortless cool, and their visceral performances on tour always treat ticket buyers to the perfect blend of arty indie rock and straight-ahead rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

TV on the Radio was formed in Brooklyn in 2001 by singer Tunde Adebimpe and guitarist David Andrew Sitek. They self-released their debut album OK Calculator the following year, promoting it by passing it out on sidewalks and leaving it in local cafes. Coffee shop buzz gave way to international acclaim in 2004 with their studio debut Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, an ambitious and eclectic record that charted in the UK and made them critical darlings overnight. Their rise continued in 2006 with the album Return to Cookie Mountain, a critical benchmark that featured vocal contributions from David Bowie and dominated year-end lists. They cemented their crossover success with 2008's Dear Science and 2011's Nine Types of Light, both of which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. In the wake of bassist Gerard Smith's unexpected death in 2011 the band went quiet for a few years, but they returned in 2014 with their highly anticipated fifth album Seeds.

A little late, but still great

    by Joel707 on 5/25/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I've seen TVOR a few times, but this was my first time seeing them as a solo act. They had a great opening band, which I can't remember the name, but they help set the mood for the show. The main act started a bit late, nearly hour, and I got pretty reckless. When the band finally came on, I let them take me on trip of guitars, distorted vocals, and horns. Sometimes other instruments were louder than others, which drowned out some of the vocals; a down side. I didn't stay for the entire encore because it was getting late, and I wanted to catch BART, but I left mostly satisfied.

    Great Band and Venue!

by RaeRaenLA on 5/24/15Terminal 5 - New York

I love TVOTR energy and carelessness for coloring in the lines. The light show was amazing. I did not see the openers but the main act themselves was great.

    Killer show

by MooseW on 5/23/15Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Tunde and the rest of the band are so charismatic & so tight. Their passion for the music was evident throughout. The hometown crowd was enthusiastic and appreciative. Did I mention that the King theatre is a spectacular venue?

    T V O T R - less than I had hoped for

by justvince on 5/23/15Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

I had a disappointing experience seeing a band that I love and have so much respect for. The venue was beautiful and that was probably the best part. King's Theater in Brooklyn has been amazingly refurbished. While the crowd of Brooklyn lemmings just sort of all unspokenly agreed that they were going to laud the performance of this Brooklyn artist regardless of whether or not it was actually going to be good, I just sat there disappointed. But hey, maybe I'm just the idiot who can't appreciate it and I was missing something that everyone else enjoyed.

TV on the Radio is fantastic live.

by HesseKnowsBest on 5/20/15Newport Music Hall - Columbus

The venue had a great setup. Great view of the stage from nearly anywhere. The chemistry between all of these artists was incredible. You could feel the passion behind their music. The front man was constantly a focal point, bringing the crowd into each song and making the audience feel as though they were a part of the events taking place on stage. Each member of the band contributed greatly to this feeling and the main guitarist leaping into the air while the lead vocalist danced and sang to the music left the impression that this band truly experiences the music that they play.

TV On The Radio is a STUNNER

by TVOTRREVIEW on 5/19/15Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

This was my husbands first Ryman visit and his first TVOTR show. Needless to say, the next one has a lot to live up to. Aside from the 4 EXTREMELY intoxicated and disruptive people that were in the rows in front of us, the show was amazing! I will never forget it. We also got to meet some members of the band, including Tunde after the show. Getting my Hatch poster signed was the icing!! Thanks!
