TURN UP THAT DIAL...  From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, comes a hot new Broadway musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, MEMPHIS is about a radio DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves -- filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock 'n' roll.  Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, MEMPHIS played pre-Broadway at the La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre, and features a Tony®-winning book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and a Tony®-winning original score with music by Bon Jovi's founding member David Bryan.  MEMPHIS is directed by Tony® nominee Christopher Ashley (Xanadu), and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).  Get ready to experience Broadway's most exciting new destination~ what AP calls "The very essence of what a Broadway musical should be."

Good music and story. Pictures a sad time of our cultural heritage, but also tells how anyone can make a difference.

wonderful show. Touring ensemble just as good as New York. Casting was wonderful. Sound system in the Times Union theater needs a serious update.

    FANTASTIC SINGERS

by BRtraveler on 3/18/14Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

THE SINGERS WERE FANTASTIC AS WERE THE DANCERS. SOME AROUND ME LEFT AT HALF TIME AS THEY DID NOT LIKE THE MUSICAL'S STORY LINE. THE REALITY IS THAT THE STORY LINE IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CULTURE OF THE TIME PERIOD.

by Wasmith59 on 3/16/14Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Saenger Theater in New Orleans is beautiful. Lots of good seats. The music and singing we're top notch. Easy to see how it won so many awards.

    Left at Intermission

by Stevewith3Others on 3/16/14Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

The acoustics were so bad (maybe it was just where we were sitting) that we couldn't understand what the players were saying half the time. While it appeared that some of the parts were played by outstanding actors, other parts, particularly the male lead, was overacted. The female lead was two big thumbs up.

GOOD TALENT BUT TOOOOO LONG. THE SONGS STARTED ALL SOUNDING ALIKE. USE OF THE "N" WORD WAS DISCONCERTING. CROWD REACTION VERY TELLING.

    A truely great show

by Quanmeg on 3/15/14Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

I have been recommending, not to just a friend, but to all my friends that they try to find tickets and make time to see this production. Daniel Hines does an amazingly strong performance in the role of Huey Calhoun, but my favorite had to be Jerrial T Young as Bobby.

Memphis - Great performances and First Act, but...

by Anonymous on 3/14/14Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Act I was fantastic. The last half of Act II threw away everything that the show worked so hard for through the great First Act.
