About

Iowa State Cyclones at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium

A Big 12 Conference member since 1996, Iowa State is one of the oldest college football programs in the Midwest. The Ames-based team has appeared in 14 bowl games, including a 2017 Liberty Bowl victory over the Memphis Tigers, and won two conference championships. Iowa State's head coach is Matt Campbell, who has held that position since 2016 and won Big 12 Coach of the Year after the 2017 season.

The Cyclones play at MidAmerican Field at Jack Trice Stadium, a 61,500-capacity venue named after Iowa State's first black athlete. The stadium experience offers several beloved traditions, such as a circa-1890 victory bell ringing after wins and a tornado siren that wails in celebration of home field achievements.

Iowa State Cyclones Football History

Iowa State's football program coalesced in 1892 as an independent team, when the school was still known as Iowa Agricultural College. The Cyclones joined the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1908, and stayed with the conference throughout name changes, including to the Big Eight. One of the team's earliest head coaches was Pop Warner, the future founder of the youth football program that bears his name. Other notable head coaches include Earle Bruce, who later found great success at the Ohio State University, and Dan McCarney, who led the Cyclones to five bowl games in the 2000s. Notable Cyclones alums include running back Troy Davis, a 1996 Heisman Trophy finalist and College Football Hall of Famer who holds multiple Iowa State rushing records, and wide receiver Allen Lazard, the school's all-time career receptions leader.

Iowa State boasts multiple long-standing rivalries dating back more than a century. Every year, the team faces cross-state foe the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, where the winner of the game earns control of the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The two teams first met in 1894, but made the match-up an annual affair starting in 1977. Since 1917, Iowa State has also squared off annually against longtime conference rival the Kansas State Wildcats.

    ISU vs KS State Parking

by SuZ on 10/12/22ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

This about the PARKING SITUATION in the G Lots at ISU. Leaving the game was a nightmare. Cars backed up IN the parking lot for at least 1.5 hrs. Every car that was parked in G lots emptied onto 16th street. It was awful! Traffic guides are needed IN the lots themselves.

    Tailgate Public Lots / Grass

by Cyclones - Table for Two on 9/27/22ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

Arrived a little late but managed to find a great spot with the stadium in full view. The game action spilled into the lot as we prepared food, played bags and enjoyed the vibe. These grass lots are an improvement over the concrete jungle.

Public Parking at the ISU vs Ohio FB Game

by Suz on 9/20/22ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

We decided to take a chance on getting a parking pass for last weekend's game in Ames. We were mostly concerned that if it rained all of the G lots would be closed and we'd have to find another place to park. Of course, rain isn't something Ticket Master can control and we knew Ticket Master would refund our cost. Reassuring for sure! The only downside was the addon costs if you can call that a downside. A $25 parking pass ended up being $32.54 and didn't break the bank. We already have our next parking pass purchased for this week's game.

Great college football atmosphere with family friendly perks

by LucK on 9/20/22ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

The charm starts with 2 family friendly hillside location for Jr cyclone club holder but extends to the casual fan as we were last week with our restless girls. Hit the hillside and they could sit on the blanket or play ball in the grass. Loyal fanbase that is knowledgeable in football. One of the best and easiest to park tailgates, but with droves of fans to still give that special college football aura.

I have to say that the ISU stadium is well-designed and beautiful! There are no bad seats! We got pork tenderloins and they were delicious! The atmosphere in the stadium was exciting and energized! The game was well-played and the announcer kept us going! We will go again!

by James Haveman on 9/6/22ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

This was the first time our family has gone to an Iowa State football game. We had a terrific time and hope to do it again sometime. The atmosphere inside Jack Trice Stadium was electric even with SEMO not being very good. It was an amazing experience!

    Double sold

by B. L. on 11/9/21ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

Bought 7 tickets for family. Got to the game and others had the same tickets for same seats. Most of us had to sit on steps, behind very last seats or stand, including my 83 year old father. Not sure if the original sellers printed tickets and then resold or what. But very disappointed. Couldn’t find out how to contact Ticketmaster to deal with this.

    Buying Cyclone tickets

by Jenn on 11/9/21ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

I purchased football tickets for an Iowa State game. From beginning to end it was a great, easy experience. I really liked the option to download tickets to mobile and Apple wallet. Then from there get right into the game. I would recommend for anyone interested.

    what an experience

by J. I. on 10/27/21ISU Cyclones - MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium - Ames

I grew up about 80 miles away from Ames as a kid and never had the experience of going to an ISU game. Now I feel like I missed a lot. What a great experience, from tailgating to the end of the game, a great time. my only suggestion is maybe more or better signage as to where the different parking lots are, we had a bit of a time trying to find the right one but once we did, everything was awesome. Go Cylcones!!!!
