About

Created by the Producers and Director of Riverdance, HEARTBEAT OF HOME is a music and dance spectacular featuring the dynamic, vibrant components of traditional Irish, Latin and Afro-Cuban music and dance. The world-class cast of forty includes a ten-piece band creating a new and electrifying sound written by award-winning, Golden-Globe-nominated composer Brian Byrne.

The show employs high-definition, cutting-edge projection technology and has an engaging narrative structure. Produced by Moya Doherty, devised and directed by John McColgan with narrative and lyrics by award-winning Irish writer Joseph O'Connor. Joseph comments: 'when we marry the sexiness of salsa to the thunder of Irish dance, the lyricism of tango to the yearning of Sean-nós, what a night of storytelling we shall have'.
The cast includes world-class Irish, Latin and Afro-Cuban dancers and with choreography by David Bolger, the production will create a dream-world of joyous, heart-stopping, high-energy music and dance.

    Heartbeat of Home FANTASTICI!!

by zinkster05 on 3/13/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I bought tickets for my Mom and I since we enjoyed seeing Michael Flatley in his 2 shows - even though he is not part of this creation we thought we'd enjoy the irish dancing. We were not disappointed - it was great and well worth the $100 tickets for our view! Highly recommend this show. There several other dance elements in this show besides irish dancing. I couldn't follow the plot (wait- there was a plot??) but who cares each number was awesome and there were several comedic elements too.

Great celebration of music and dance!

by Cocore on 3/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I was not expecting the blend of different styles of music and dance. I enjoyed it all, but the Irish dancing was the highlight for me. I liked that the musicians were on the stage and that featured musicians mingled with the dancers on stage throughout the performance. When the musicians had a seemingly spontaneous jam session (including their own dancing) after the curtain came down....so fun!

    Not great for average viewer

by Peachman1980 on 3/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Not a lot of Irish Dancing. Most of the dancing was the type that you'd have to be a dance expert to appreciate (ballet, salsa). It lacked a lot of the high-energy, rhythmic dancing that Riverdance offered. Also, too much singing.

    A little short

by Seattaken on 3/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Heartbeat of Home offered great entertainment but it was not the thunderous excitement of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. The Irish Dancing was amazing, however, though the music was good it drowned out the thunderous glorious sound and impact of the Irish Dancers footsteps...music in itself. The Modern, Jazz and Street dance segments were entertaining but this was no place for them. You can see this type of dance readily on television. Collectively some of the dancers were not in sync so it just didn't have the sharpness and clean performance you would expect of a professional performance. Heartbeat was entertaining but came up short of it's' predecessors, Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.

    Heartbeat will quicken your pulse

by StevenP1111 on 3/11/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Amazing. Has the awesome Riverdance we all know and love, but also has an exciting mix of soul/urban dance, latin/salsa, etc. Also has a great live band, outstanding singing solos with a beautiful video backdrop.

Heartbeat of Home was a wonderful show!! We enjoyed the incorporation of Flamenco, Latin and Afro-Cuban dancing as well. All of the dancers are very talented - and there was some really fast footwork going on! The musicians and singers were wonderful as well. Everyone seemed to have a great time throughout the whole performance!

    Love the World Flavor

by GrammyCC on 3/11/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had a "cheap seat" upper balcony, aisle seat and could not have wanted another !! Saw from up above and much prefer that to main floor. Costuming and international music blended beautifully.

    Not like Riverdance

by Peachman1980 on 3/11/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I know nothing about dance, but Riverdance was so impressive that it gave me chills. This was much different. Only about 10% of it was Irish dancing. Maybe 50% was salsa and ballet, and another 40% singing or just the band. There were a few high-energy segments surrounded by very slow singing or instrument segments that would nearly put me to sleep. The performers themselves are all world-class, so for somebody who knows a lot about dance and can appreciate it, it might be good. For an average Joe like me, not so much.

Show it was amazing. I didn't like only seats in a theater. They are to small and to close to itch other.

    Heartbeat of Home (Chicago)... recommended!

by AMC31114 on 3/11/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We enjoyed this very much but found parts alittle confusing and perhaps even rushed inorder to fulfill the entire presentation. Personally I would have preferred more Irish dancing than the mix dancing, but it did not make it any less entertaining!
