    Save your money

I feel like your money would be better spent elsewhere. Good cast, just a boring show.

The effort put into the play shows

by QuitoGarcia on 1/14/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I expected to see some magic within this play but I didn't expect to be repeatedly amazed at how the production distinguished its ghosts from the living. After the show, my girl friend and I commented on how the movie itself might have been more interesting with music numbers. I guess for that reason we have the broadway play in Chicago. Well done, you made many cry and also throw their heads back at all the laughs.

I WISH THE MOLLY WAS MORE INTO CHARACTER. A BLACK WIG WOULD OF SEEMED MORE REAL ALONG WITH THE TRAIN ACTOR

Very well done. Our expectations were high, but were easily met by this production and then some. The effects were well done, and the actors did a fine job. Probably one of the best musicals we have seen over the last few years.

Great Stage FX - poor songs

by JustAGirl75 on 1/14/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had no desire to attend this until I received a cheap ticket offer (ORCH level). The use of digital images/special effects made this a worthy viewing. The original songs were not memorable.

    Waste of money

by btbrianchicago on 1/14/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

this show was a waste of money. Poorly written, Bad Score and a very week cast. for being professional Theater their is no excuse. With the exception of the character Oda Mae , this cast was terrible and the voices were screechy. that is one of the reason I have not renewed my Broadway in Chicago subscription. They played to half of a house and there is a reason. Show is not up to par an d not worth the money

    I liked Ghost

by Gaga4kids on 1/14/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I thought the way that the scenes changed and the dancers was very innovative and new. I liked the show but my friends that came with said it was just ok. The casting of the characters was great.

    Outstanding

by SPG50 on 1/14/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Amazing lighting effects, well worth the ticket price alone. Having slept through the movie a number of times I was hesitant about attending this musical but was very glad that I did. This was, in fact, amazing to see. The show was very well done from top to bottom. Lighting, staging, special effects all superb. For my taste, some of the music bordered on unnecessary screaming but that's just my view. Otherwise a wonderful show from beginning to end and again I can't over emphasize the lighting.

    Don't bother

by MentalJim on 1/14/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The theater itself was really nice. I really enjoyed looking at the architectural details. Our seats were in a good location (Loge center), but it was painful to sit in the seats because the lack of seat depth and foot room resulted in my knees being bent past 90 degrees and there was no way to move them. By the intermission I was in a lot of pain, but at least that pain prevented me from falling asleep during the show. Ah yes, the show. The lead performer playing Demi Moore has a voice that sets me on edge. From the first few notes of the opening number I was put off. After about five minutes, I was ready to leave because of the singing style and pitch of her voice, but knew that my wife would want to stay so I remained in my seat. The plot is similar to the movie version, but with strange interludes of eight dancers coming out and dancing with silly slow motion moves every few minutes that really do not seem to fit into the play at all. Take out all scenes with the eight member ensemble and the show would be better. The slow taking up time. Another issue is that this play is set apparently in both the early 1990's as well as modern times. There are street dancers carrying boom boxes (and taking a few slow motion steps) that seem like they came from the earlier time period, yet the characters mention drinking a Red Bull and in one scene use a modern cell phone, so you may think it is set today, then you find that Brooklyn is not a cool and hip place to live and think it must be the early 90s. Confusing and sloppy is what it is. The production lacked any catchy songs. People should walk out of the theater humming a signature song, but there was none that were even remotely catchy. The special effects were interesting, but at the very opening of the film I thought I was tricked into paying ten times the admission price to watch a movie. The sound seemed over amplified and it was difficult to make out many of the song lyrics, especially in the ensemble numbers. Not sure if this is a limitation of the old theater's acoustics, a production issue with the play, or just related to my seat location. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this unless it was the only thing playing, or you have no interest in seeing the Blue Man Group.

    Great Special Effects

by xwiseguyx on 1/13/14Oriental Theatre - Chicago

I didn't know what to expect but the other reviewers were right on with their thoughts here. I really think the leads were woofully miscast... I wanted to like the female lead but I've seen many better singers on The Voice Auditions. As others mentioned, the psychic saved the show as did The Special Effects... her voice and acting was on par with what you'd expect from a professional musical (I also notices she got a louder applause than the 2 leads did)... and the Special Effects actually make this one recommended. Very cool how they worked up the Ghostly scenes.. like nothing I've ever seen. I heard the NY show was great.. I wish I had seen that one. BTW, I don't agree about the music being bad, I LOVED IT!

Ghost The Musical was "Scary" bad.

by SusanMarieS on 1/13/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

All I can say is rent the movie and don't waste your time. I have been to high school plays that had better singers and there was no chemistry between the lead charaters and bad acting. The only redeeming part was the person who played the psychic was entertaining.

    Special Effects were Great!

by LRodriguez3466 on 1/13/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Overall the show was great - you have to like the movie to enjoy the show. The couple behind me had NEVER seen the movie - they were so lost - bored, he fell asleep. I for one loved it! Loved the movie, loved the show. Some of the songs were a little too long; the special effects had me at awe – Great show to go see at least once!

Skip it. First bad musical I've been to

by jdhuh23 on 1/13/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I love musicals and have never been to one I didn't like until Ghost. I was really disappointed. The best part of the musical were the illusions and the lighting (they did a great job of making the ghosts look faded even when next to someone who was alive). Unfortunately, the musical didn't have an identity and felt very disjointed. Songs were forgettable and some were laughable. Random stage props like umbrellas from the ceiling and even the ensemble felt forced. There were parts where my friend and I were giggling when we weren't supposed to and giving each other quizzical looks. It seems like many audience members agreed as there were few people giving a standing ovation which has become a given in most shows. Don't think it was the performers' fault. They did the best given what they have. Unfortunately, they had little to work with. If you want illusions, catch a magic show.

    Special effects were mesmerizing

by N1969 on 1/13/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Obviously it is based on super hit story and writer, actors did a great justice. In spite the story line was known still the special effects, music kept me stick to 2.5 hours of complete play. There were lot of humorous parts and sentimental part of story was beautifully built with the music. I will surely recommend this to my friends
