I am glad I had discounted tickets, after seeing this show. The problems began at the beginning (Lead actors' voices were weak and couldn't compete with overbearing instrumentals, dialogue was forced and lacked any emotion and the actors had little to no chemistry). I wasn't expecting much from a musical based on a film, but hoped for better than what I saw on stage. The digitized scenery was exemplary at certain points, yet seemed to cheapen the theater experience at others. Overall, a very cool way to incorporate technology like this into a show.

For me, it was college level

by Grandy924 on 1/11/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

If this had been a college production I would have given it 5 stars. There were some wonderful special effects and a few really good moments. But the leads were not compelling (for a professional cast) and were good but that's about it...good. On a college level, I would have said they were excellent. This was not a Broadway level or National Tour level production at all. I am very critical though and someone who doesn't go to the theater very often or who is able to enjoy theater without 'critiquing" it, would have enjoyed this much more then I. There were people raving about it in the lobby...and I have a few friends who would have LOVED it. Most of my friends, however, would have agreed with me. The production was much better than the performances.

    Awful with a twist

    by amt318 on 1/10/14Oriental Theater - Chicago

This story should not have been a musical. It very easily could have been a play. The music was awful and seemed out of place and the actors were terrible. The main actors were trying WAY to hard to believe in their roles and were not fun to watch. The best actor in the play was Oda Mae. She was hysterical in an otherwise very boring production. THE TWIST... The special effects were AMAZING. The subway scenes were nothing short of FANTASTIC. If it weren't for that and "Oda Mae's" performance, there would be nothing positive to say about this show. Save your money and see something else!!
