    Ghost the Musical

by Rockinrobo on 1/13/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I guess I have been spoiled by other shows, Jersey Boys, Wicked, Rock of Ages, but this show was not very good. The singing was bad, not alot of things good about this show. Even the special affects were decent but not what they said it would be.

Wow (and not in a good way)

by chicago43 on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The less said the better. How this show ever got produced in the first place amazes me. Nothing against the young cast.

    Unimpressive and bad acting

by Anonymous on 1/12/14Oriental Theater - Chicago

Very poorly made. I mostly suffered third party embarrassment by the level of the acting and singing - very little talent by the three actors who played Molly, Sam, and Carl. The set was not impressive and even the dancers looked very amateur-ish. Skip this musical but feel free to watch the movie. The movie cast is superb. SAM SCREAMS TOO MUCH.

Sets/Special effects AMAZING! Shouldn't be musical

    by GottaDance2010 on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre - Chicago

The storyline stayed very true to one of my favorite movies. The sets & special effects were quite amazing! Loved how they handled all of the ghostly effects (other than very bright white lights in our eyes occasionally). I would recommend the show to anyone interested in these types of things. I would have enjoyed the show much more if it was NOT a musical. The music was very inconsistent, popping in just about every type of music out there, except opera. And this is coming from someone who LOVES musicals. The music always looked forced. The actors did a pretty good job, although it seemed like the main actress was struggling with the music. Oda Mae stole the show. She was fantastic all around. If I could, I would give it a 2.5 stars.

    Everything about it was spectacular

by kalyjaja on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The set, the special effects, the adaptation from the movie to the stage, and, of course, the acting was beyond expectations. We were "wowed" from the opening act. The stars of the original cast make a hard act to follow, but these actors pulled it off. This play will stay with us for a long time...

    Go see it! Bravo!

by ChicagoPablo on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Wasn't sure what to expect. Went with a small group including my 19 year old daughter who had never seen the movie "Ghost" and we all enjoyed it. The special effects were well done but did not overwhelm the enjoyment of traditional theater. The performers were very good with exceptional performances from Oda Mae Brown and Molly. Bravo!!! I would probably give the show 4 1/2 stars but went to five rather than four when 1/2 stars were not an option. Go see it!

    Pleasantly surprised!!

by MaryNGolf on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

When I first heard Ghost the musical was coming to town, I thought, "Whaaat? A musical? How??" So I ended up getting a good promo code through ticketmaster for Orchestra seats and went with 3 others. It was good! The digital effects that were done were very interesting. There was a lot of action and entertainment. The music was okay. I think the sound was too loud in the theater so it made it hard to hear all the words clearly and made some of the female voices too high pitched. But overall they did capture the more important parts of the movie. I thought it was entertaining and well done.

    Poor sound technician

by Rilo11 on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Show was good, songs good, sound technician terrible. He mixed instrumental way louder than vocals or speaking parts. Many times difficult to hear actors.

Story and show was overall good. I didn't care too much for the songs. I really enjoyed Oda Mae's character and the illusions of him as a ghost, like Sam going through the door.

The two main characters overreacted, but the lady that played Whoopi Goldberg's role stole the show. She was hilarious!

    WOW

by juleslaroo on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had seen the movie, GHOST, and really didn't know how the play/musical would do with some of the illusions of ghost like actions. Well, let me say, that the technology, special effects, and acting surpassed all of my expectations! I truly enjoyed this production, as did my companion. The only suggestion I would make is in the tweeking of some of the sound system, as in when there was more than one voice or voices going on at the same time.

The night I saw Ghost the Musical was the first time I've ever left a show at intermission. I felt sorry for the actors - they spent all of their time on stage fighting against the technology. The sound was loud and distorted. I knew some of the songs before getting to the theatre and was still unable to recognize them. The dialogue couldn't be understood over the music. The use of projections was very overdone. It was not needed at all.

Ghost the Musical was a better movie than musical

by Doc3912 on 1/12/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The production, staging, and special effects for Ghost the Musical were very energetic and interesting. But, in my judgment, the vehicle was quite weak.

Enjoyed the production. The night we attended the voice and singing of the main girl was erratic.
