Chicago Fire FC History

The Chicago Fire became one of Major League Soccer’s first expansion teams when it joined ahead of the 1998 season. The Fire pulled off one of the most impressive inaugural seasons across American professional sports when the new squad, coached under Bob Bradley, secured an 11-game winning streak and made a surprise playoff run that culminated in an MLS Cup Final win against the two-time defending champions, D.C. United (where Bradley previously worked as an assistant). One week later, Chicago completed the double-header with their first U.S. Open Cup championship.

The Fire found further success in the early aughts with Bradley and his successor Dave Sarachan, who helped the team secure three more U.S. Open Cup victories in 2000, 2003 and 2006. In addition, the Fire earned the Supporters’ Shield in 2003. All-Star forward Mike Magee became the first player to win the MLS MVP Award while representing Chicago in 2013.

    Would Not Return

by Cait on 5/23/23Soldier Field - Chicago

Before arrival, I read the clear bag policy to make sure my bag would be allowed in. I rolled up to the gate with confidence only to find that my bag did not actually meet their requirements and had to be checked. Which was surprising to me since I received it from a different club that also plays in an NFL stadium and must follow the same rules. Once I got in, though, it was a good experience. Good vantage point and the food was good for stadium food. Still spoiled by my home stadium so I probably won’t come back.

    Great Venue and Game

by Brett on 5/16/23Soldier Field - Chicago

I loved every minute of the Fire game at Soldier Field. It was a wonderful time and the Fire were able to secure 3 points. I will be back very soon!

    Fun experience!

by Scott on 5/16/23Soldier Field - Chicago

Our first MLS game and it was fun! Great scene, great game experience. Only downside were the concessions. At the stand we went to only 7UP or Dr. Pepper was working. A little more variety with the food would have been nice too, but I realize it was a smaller event compared to say a Bears game. Overall, super fun event, great team members throughout the stadium! Love that you had a day game; please add more so our son can come!!!

    Booing is fun

by Berry on 5/2/23Soldier Field - Chicago

You won’t see good soccer, not even decent soccer. However it’s a fun time.

    affordable fun!

by rae on 4/18/23Soldier Field - Chicago

I got to enjoy the Fire game on a warm spring night, my friends and I had great seats behind the goal to the left a bit. Tickets were $30 for 4th row which was a great surprise. It was a lot of fun even if soccer isn't your thing!

    GREAT EXPERIENCE!!

by CareLigocks on 4/18/23Soldier Field - Chicago

As a neutral for the night (NEREVS fan here), the game was an amazing experience. The fans for the FIRE were very passionate and made the overall experience incredible. Sat in the club section and the vendors were limited, but easy access to the lower levels and the in stadium shop! If you are doing an MLS tour, definitely plan a trip to Soldiers field and go early to walk around the grounds.

    Incredible game and experience.

by Nate on 3/7/23Soldier Field - Chicago

My fiancé and I had a great time at the game. I've been to plenty of games but it was her first one. We parked at Soldier Field which made the experience so much less stressful as she is pregnant. We will definitely be back!

    Not much of a team

by Joe on 9/20/22Soldier Field - Chicago

I‘m probably a little bit too harsh but they are not much of a team rather 11 guys running uncoordinated over the field. They have to learn to play with each other not each for himself.

    Partially blocked view

    by Pappy76 on 9/13/22SeatGeek Stadium - Bridgeview

What should have been great field level seats turned out to be kind of crappy. The view was obscured by the TV camera crew and a security guard posted right there partially blocking the view. This should be noted in the description that the view will be partially blocked in this section. And the guard was useless anyway as he did nothing when groups of kids kept coming down from the higher rows to stand along the field entrance gate blocking views even more. The group next to me finally had to speak up and tell them to go back to their seats. I just know not to buy seats in 102 in the first few rows in the future. But it was a great match and victory and we were within a couple feet of Shaquiri when he took corners from that side!

Awful team, good venue with poor infrastructure

by Tom on 8/24/22SeatGeek Stadium - Bridgeview

Chicago Fire plays miserably. But other than that, the seatgeek stadium while very nice, has very poor arrival infrastructure. The streets are super narrow and we spent over 45min to access the parking lot in the last 0.5 mile. Parking lot they charge $25 for you to park on dirt and gravel. Internal structure for concessions is miserable too, 3 concession booths the lines were immense for anything. Very poor experience.

    Exciting Game and Great Venue

    by Pinkie60640 on 8/3/22Soldier Field - Chicago

Tickets were a good value, but food, beverage, and souvenirs were outrageous.

    Great Atmosphere

by SCJohn on 8/3/22Soldier Field - Chicago

Really love the atmosphere of the Fire games. Double headers are a real grate. Wish the Res Stars played here more. Biggest complaint is not allowing sealed water into the stadium. $6.50 a water is insanity on hot days and needs to be changed.

    The stadium

by Bigg FroZONE on 8/2/22Soldier Field - Chicago

The only problem was that the stadium didn’t get used completely it would make it a bigger event for everyone.

Incredible that you can transfer tickets but not parking pas

by Robert on 8/2/22Soldier Field - Chicago

We were a party of 9 with 2 cars. We bought two parking passes online along with tickets. We transferred the game tickets to the second car but not the parking passes. We could not transfer the passes. We ended up parking in different lots, lost about 45 minutes of time, paid a second time for parking, and left a great game with a sour note.

    Loved it!

by FireFanDad on 8/2/22Soldier Field - Chicago

Everything about our experience (OK, a win would have been better than a tie) was terrific. The ease into and out of the garage, our seats, and friendly service at the stadium were great. Thanks to the Chicago Fire for a lovely afternoon of soccer.

Overall a good night at Soldier Field

by PAULERS on 7/12/22Soldier Field - Chicago

We mostly enjoyed our trip to Soldier Field to see the Fire. Good value for seats, giveaway and postgame fireworks. Love that there is a beer specific to the Fire made by Revolution Brewing. Overall crAft selection was decent. My lone complaint, came in a dispute with a fan. In the middle of the second half, dude brought an entire youth team down the aisle to the wall in front of us and stood there during the action impeding the view of the game, I missed a goal in the process. Ushers should have been proactive in removing them but they weren't. Another fan and myself both told the guy he had to move. And in my case the disagreement became more animated. I went to get an usher to get him removed, and the usher came down and essentially did nothing. I know he was a kid and didn't want to get in the middle of our argument but he should have asked for help to get the dude removed from the area.

Fun spot for small groups. Needs polishing tho.

by Soccerguy on 7/12/22Soldier Field - Chicago

Good food. Not busy. Had skyline seats which were nice. But pricey for what it is. Didnt get the giveaway coozie, tickets are not clearly marked on what "sky" means, and only the elevator attendant knew where we needed to go, after roaming the halls for 15 minutes talking to employees. All in all good. But i can buy a lot of hot dogs and beer for what these cost.
