ANN: AN AFFECTIONATE PORTRAIT OF ANN RICHARDS is a play with Emmy® Award-winning stage and screen actress Holland Taylor. A hilarious and inspiring evening of theater celebrating a beloved daughter of Texas, Taylor hopes ANN will "bring a magical touch to the past and the present, swirling them together as only the theatre can do, and leaving the audience with an enhanced sense not only of a person and a time, but of themselves."
Amazing! What a pleasure to watch Holland Taylor transform into Ann Richards. She is such a talented writer and actor! I hope"Ann" has a long a successful run...
A one woman play might strike fear in many---how can she possibly keep your attention for 1.5 hours? And yet she does---and does incredibly well. With wit, comedy, and style, this play kept us entralled and riveted. Afterwards, our group admitted it was one of the plays we have seen in many years. Whole-heartedly recommend!
Holland Taylor carried the show, and included footage and events from Ann's life. She deftly presented "life according to Ann" without excuses, and captured the toughness combined with the humanity.
Absolutely excellent show! She does a fabulous job. I truly enjoyed "getting to know" Ann Richards and only wish I had known this much about her while she was alive. She did so much for women and with such humor and grace. Anyone would enjoy this show: touching, funny, historical. I'd love to see it again. Don't miss this!
It was amazing how brilliantly Holland Taylor portrayed Ann Richards. She even looked a lot like Ann. A number of years ago I was fortunate enough to see a presentation by Ann Richards in person, and Holland was certainly "right now!" It was interesting to learn more about Ann's background and how she got to be governor of Texas and what her time in office was like. I love strong women, and I thoroughly enjoyed this play!
Having lived in Texas during Ann Richard's governorship (I did vote for her and was elated when she won!) I was blown away by Holland Taylor's portrayal of Ann. It was like being there with Ann. She was indeed a remarkable "ordinary" woman and Holland got her down perfectly. The only thing that caught my attention is that I think Ann would have said "God love you" rather than "God bless you". Southern women say "God love you." We have only been asking God to Bless us (America) since Dubya's time.
Holland Taylor does an outstanding job of portraying Ann Richards. She captures her southern charm, wit and "just get it done - damn it!" attitude. The show was interesting and laugh out loud funny. I really loved it!
Outstanding, Miss Taylor deserves the Tony. She has Ann Richards down in every way.
Having lived in TX while Ann Richards was the governor the show was oh so her. I met her at a fundraiser and she was every bit then the same as the actress was in the theatre. She was very much a real person politician as any will ever be and was always funny. Each day would pass and you would wonder what she did or said that day and the play was filled with great humor in the same way. Holland"s Portrayal of Richards was uncanny in every way. At times I thought wow she looks and acts so much like the real Ann Richards. My friend with me had heard of her through national politics but has never been to TX and so he did not know her as I did. His comment was "what a character she was if she was really like that ...was well worth the money for anyone" and as he said "particularly so for a political junkie" Go I know you will like it.
Holland Taylor was amazing......a one person showstopper! Amazing that one person could remember so much!!
Short and sweet, one of the best shows I have seen. Makes you starve for all the information about Ann you can get your hands on. Holland Taylor is truly incredible. I was lucky enough to see this show in Chicago and will definitely see it again on Broadway.
I lived in Texas during most of the Ann Richards years and was a huge fan. It was a pleasure to see the research and passion that Holland Taylor put into this project to bring Ann back to life for us. The one liners and wit were why I wanted to see this, and I was not disappointed. My only regret is that there is only one Ann and no one could capture her larger than life persona. Mis Taylor came very close.
Holland Taylor is magnificent as actor and playwright. She has created a great tribute to a great woman. A wonderful one-woman show. And a wonderful, intimate theatre.
Liked Ann Richards very much. Enjoyed hearing someone with her liberal philosophy. Good script. Excellent actress. Felt a little long. I'd have considered ending the show with the line that was something like: It doesn't have to be all about you.
I thought Holland Taylor did a fabulous job portraying Ann Richards. I really felt like I was in the presence of Gov. Richards! I am so pleased I had the opportunity to see this before it heads to NYC.
From start to finish Holland Taylor is Ann Richards. It is an amazing American Story of what you can acomplish and overcome. really a democrat from Texas !!!!
Excellent portrayal of a grand lady. Well written and performed by Holland Taylor. Fast moving and entertaining.
We went to see this play after watching The Rosie Show when she interviewed Holland and raved about the show. I got online and immediately bought tickets after watching the interview. I was beyond impressed with Holland's performance, and I have since developed a great admiration for her as a woman, writer and actor. This was a truly brilliant, touching, and funny look at what a strong woman can be. It was, to use a cliche, inspiring. Holland was flawless, and for the couple of hours we watched, I almost forgot she wasn't really Ann Richards. What more can you ask for? I truly hope this show makes it to Broadway as it certainly deserves to. If you can catch the show there, by all means, don't miss it.
Holland Taylor played Ann so well that I forgot it was Holland and not Ann Richards. She had the accent and mannerisms down pat. While the story was realistic, in my opinion, it went long. The play seemed to start dragging around the middle of the second act,
Interesting, witty and informative about the real Ann Richards.
