Zeds Dead on Tour

Veterans of the EDM festival circuit, Toronto's Zeds Dead are masters of unleashing singles to the masses to get everyone stoked for their live show. And over the summer of 2019, they dropped multiple tracks to do just that. The frenetic "Lift You Up," an accelerated synth-punk sprint that's liable to turn the dance tent into a mosh pit. "Rescue" — a collaboration with Dutch producer Dion Timmer and Toronto diva Delaney Jane — splits the difference between bass-wobbled beats and edgy alt-rock energy. But "Stars Tonight" — featuring Dutch duo DROELOE — leaps from piano-laced serenity to future-bass freakery, with heart-racing ascents and queasy drops that ensure their sets strike the right balance of euphoria and anarchy.

Zeds Dead in Concert

The Toronto-based duo of Dylan Mamid (aka DC) and Zachary Rapp-Rovan (aka Hooks) first came together in the mid-2000s under the name Mass Productions, a project steeped in their love of boom-bapped hip-hop. But as EDM came to dominate the city's club scene at the turn of the decade, the duo caught the wave and rebranded themselves Zeds Dead (a quote from Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction). While the 2010 single "Rude Boy" captures them still transitioning out of old-school breaks toward nu-rave sonics, the series of EPs they released through Diplo's Mad Decent imprint over the course of 2012 and 2014 saw them change things up. They retrofitted their sound for the festival circuit (take, for example, the steep drops and subterranean bass of "Hadouken"), and they also initiated alt-rock crossovers with the likes of Twin Shadow and Perry Farrell. After launching their own label, Deadbeat, Zeds Dead released their first proper album statement, the Juno Award–nominated Northern Lights, in 2016, with a wildly eclectic guest list (Diplo, Pusha T, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo) that speaks to their ever-evolving fusion of sun-dappled EDM, gritty rap production and rock power.

    First EDM concert

by Breeezyy on 12/20/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

The show was still amazing for the experience but they played a lot of slower songs which wasn’t the mood/vibe I was hoping for! Overall I give it like a 5/10. Hoping the next show is better!

    Yay but Nay

by Concert Connoisseur on 12/19/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I very much enjoyed the show! The one thing that completely put a damper on my mood was the “no headbanging while holding onto the rail” rule :/ What’s a good show without swinging rails?

Didnt have a bad experience with the security this time

by Nickypicky on 12/19/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Usually security makes the experience worst than it should be but there was no hassle or no negativity from them

    Subpar

by Uptown on 12/19/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I was underwhelmed at zed dead’s performance. The precious shoes have been so high energy, fun, lot of dancing and this show seemed off. I wouldn’t pay the ticket price again for them.

    Zeds Dead Home!

by Mavis on 12/13/22History - Toronto

The boys put on an excellent show at History! Always a good time with Zeds Dead. I really enjoyed the smaller, more intimate venue. It allowed us to move around easily between the floor and upstairs. Bars and washrooms were easily accessible with minimal line ups. Security was thorough, efficient and polite. Looking forward to the next time I am brought to History.

    Need more seated space!

    by C on 12/13/22History - Toronto

This is just a generalized observation, as someone who has been to history several times! I understand the concern with providing seated areas for breaks however the event was LONG! When I found a spot to sit (up against the wall), people were tripping over me as they moved around. I’d love to see some better options for folks who need to take more breaks in future!

    To loud

by Raif on 10/21/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

Everything was going great until zeds dead came on and whenever they cranked up the speakers at the end it was physically hurting almost everyone's ears in the bleachers. I cant even imagine being on the rail when they cranked it up the third time

    They never disappoint

by Millennial Raver on 10/14/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

Who's Zed? Zed's Dead, baby... Amazing show. Heavy bass with those sick drum beats. Played all their new releases, old mixes and remixed some throwback jams of the late 90's and early 2000's with some 80's thrown in. Zed's Dead never fails to put on an epic show. This is my 3rd show of theirs (2nd at WAMU). If you're a basshead, don't miss ZD when they're in town.

    Great

by Zedsbread on 10/12/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

Love them so much. They need to do more than one night in Seattle. I’d like to see them at the Tacoma Dome

    Crowd

    by C on 10/11/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

Sound production was phenomenal, but the crowd was extremely overpacked and there wasn’t much space for movement. The venue seemed over capacity by the end of the night.

    Mediocre venue

by Devz on 10/11/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

I understand having a designated area for 21+ to drink your drink but it needs to not be segregated from the concert. Couldn’t hear or see the artist and I felt like I had to chug my drink making it less enjoyable. The sound could have been louder once on the floor. The bathrooms were clean and plenty stalls to accommodate. Concessions were also efficient which was nice.
