About

Zebra on Tour

Zebra galloped out of New Orleans in early 1975. The trio, consisting of Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso, concocted their moniker from a 1926 Vogue magazine cover and soon won over the South and East Coast. In 1982 Zebra's self-titled debut album went gold and was the fastest selling debut album in Atlantic Records' history thanks to the radio and MTV airplay of "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door?". Veteran producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick) also helmed the follow-up, "No Tellin' Lies". The songs range from the hard-rocking "Wait Until the Summer's Gone" to the Beatle-esque ballad, "Lullaby". With the release of their third Atlantic album "3.V", Zebra took their career one step farther: the album's credits read "Produced by Randy Jackson and Zebra". Thus, for the very first time, the group gained complete control of its creative output. A collection of the finest songs they have ever written, "3.V" clearly shows Zebra's lasting power and originality. In all, Zebra fans enjoyed a total of five videos aired on MTV and have given the band combined album sales of nearly 2 million worldwide. Zebra emerged from the studio again in 2003 with "ZEBRA IV", on Mayhem Records. This could possibly be the best effort by Zebra to date with powerful cuts which include "Arabian Nights", "Why" and "Waiting To Die". Zebra's live performances often last over two hours and showcase their new material along with all the classic Zebra tunes: "Who's Behind the Door?", "Tell Me What You Want", "Wait Until the Summer's Gone", "Bears", "One More Chance" and other all-time favorites including an occasional Led Zeppelin cover. "ZEBRA THE DVD", released in 2008 captures the band's energy and power on stage. The DVD features live concert footage from both Long Island and the House of Blues in New Orleans in addition to several interviews and bonus features. In 2010 Zebra was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and is acknowledged as Louisiana's #1 Rock and Roll band by the Louisiana Music Commission. On October 18, 2012 Zebra was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Celebrating their 40 Anniversary in 2015 Zebra continues to WOW audiences across the country with their Hard-Rocking Live shows performing in select markets nationwide.-Making a Triumphant Return to NYC in November 2019.

    Zebra was awesome!!!

by vgi1000 on 5/21/13NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

This was the third time Zebra has played nycb theater at Westbury. The venue is unique and known for its fantastic sound.Zebra breezed through an amazing set of songs and showed that they truly are a power trio. They are personable and give thanks to their crew, fans and friends wherever they go. Randys voice was strong and the instruments crystal clear. The sound techs at westbury are all expert at what they do.Anyone who lives in this area should make sure they see a show at this venue.I go often and they really have a grasp on putting on a live music event

Just as good as they were 20 years ago!

by Randialena on 5/20/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

I have followed this band many, many years ... and all i can say is that Randy and the boys are as tecnically sound as ever. The performance took me back 20 years,,,I am so happy they are still touring and being a native of New Orleans, made it all that more spectacular.I was especially surprised the band took so much time to schmooze with fans after the show. I have only been waiting for that hug 20 or so years!

    Zebra Still Rocks

by Hondo2112 on 5/19/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Zebra put on a solid performance Friday night, working through what was obviously some difficulties with the sound board and their on stage monitors. Randy Jackson is still able to hit almost all the high notes. The drums were the most powerful I had heard them, as this was the fourth time I have seen them since 1988. What I appreciate most about Zebra is regardless of the audience size, I have seen them sold out in LI and with about 80 people at a NJ Festival in the late 90's, they perform with the same amount of enthusiasm and respect for the audience. They were clearly having difficulty with the on stage monitors as roadies had to come on stage numerous times, but Zebra took it all in stride and never seemed to get annoyed or distracted. The venue, Bergen PAC really needs some work done on it. The show was well worth the price of admission.

    Awesome

    by kdan1 on 8/13/12The Paramount - Huntington

While White Fire was just a cover band they had the crowd going with with an awesome playlist. And as for Zebra ? Top notch all the way. Randy was outrageous as usual and Felix and Gus were tighter than ever. Randy ! If you ever read this dump BC Rich techs and try someone like Ed Clark for your guitars.

Zebra ROCKED BB Kings!! You should not miss this show. Guy Gelso on drums, Felix Hanemann on bass and keyboard and the incredible Randy Jackson on guitar and lead vocals. The Led Zeppelin encore was better than Zep!!

    Awesome Zebra show

by EWULTD on 5/23/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I'd seen Zebra last time they came to BB Kings, but this show was almost non-stop rock n roll. They played every song I could think of that I was hoping they'd play even though some of their songs had little radio airplay when the cd came out. Besides Who's behind the door & Wait until the summers gone, they also added Can't Live Without, etc. All their great stuff. The took it up a notch on their Zeppelin encore set. A full Kasmir play, and really outdid themselves on Whole Lotta Love. An absolutely awesome show. And the sound on my videos came out decent, including pictures. The meet & greet after the show was icing on the cake, which I have pictures of the band and myself.

This show set the bar for all others to reach!

by Michael38 on 5/23/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

What an AMAZING show! I have seen Zebra many, many times before and this show blew me away. Their first 90 minutes or so was a set of their own material and it rocked so hard that the foundation began to crumble. All three guys sounded unbelievable, Randy's guitar was great and his voice was indescribable, Felix's bass and keyboards were, as always, perfect and Guy's drumming was perfectly on point as shown during his off-th-cuff drum solo during "The La La Song". After the first set was done, they took as small break and returned for set #2 which was ALL Led Zeppelin songs! All I can say is that the this set caused the crumbling foundation to give way and they leveled the place, figuratively of course. Guys, thanks for another terrific performance and I'll see you soon!

    Ride the Zebra!!!

by BigV2011 on 5/23/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Zebra rocked BB's to the delight of a sold out capacity crowd, full Zebra set and Zep set encore. The band was in fine form as usual, a couple of early glitches and then it was off to the races! I would highly reommend checking them out if you have the opportunity, I've been seeing them live for 34 years and they never dissapoint!!

    Zebra still rocks

by bmax on 5/22/11Showcase Live - Foxboro

Excellent show, over an hour hour and a half of great Zebra material AND a set of Zeppelin material. Randy's voice is amazing and makes for a super Zeppelin tribute. I am so happy they came to MA after all of these years, hopefully it is not the last time!! Thanks for a great show!!!

Zebra was a little loose, bad mix

by bucketofish on 5/22/11Showcase Live - Foxboro

My second time at this venue, and bad mix both times. Bass moved air, but the bass line itself was barely audible - had no tone. All guitar in front-of-house spkrs, very harsh. As for the band, all clearly excellent players, but band as a whole was loose. Guy has chops, but drums too busily. Felix goes back and forth between playing bass gtr, and playing bass on his keyboard - when on keyboard you really miss the bass gtr. Randy still hits the notes, but tired out and cracking before the night was over. But i you like Zebra it's still a show worth seeing, cuz they genuinely want to put on their best show, and you never know which show will be the last.
