About

Zebra on Tour

Zebra galloped out of New Orleans in early 1975. The trio, consisting of Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso, concocted their moniker from a 1926 Vogue magazine cover and soon won over the South and East Coast. In 1982 Zebra's self-titled debut album went gold and was the fastest selling debut album in Atlantic Records' history thanks to the radio and MTV airplay of "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door?". Veteran producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick) also helmed the follow-up, "No Tellin' Lies". The songs range from the hard-rocking "Wait Until the Summer's Gone" to the Beatle-esque ballad, "Lullaby". With the release of their third Atlantic album "3.V", Zebra took their career one step farther: the album's credits read "Produced by Randy Jackson and Zebra". Thus, for the very first time, the group gained complete control of its creative output. A collection of the finest songs they have ever written, "3.V" clearly shows Zebra's lasting power and originality. In all, Zebra fans enjoyed a total of five videos aired on MTV and have given the band combined album sales of nearly 2 million worldwide. Zebra emerged from the studio again in 2003 with "ZEBRA IV", on Mayhem Records. This could possibly be the best effort by Zebra to date with powerful cuts which include "Arabian Nights", "Why" and "Waiting To Die". Zebra's live performances often last over two hours and showcase their new material along with all the classic Zebra tunes: "Who's Behind the Door?", "Tell Me What You Want", "Wait Until the Summer's Gone", "Bears", "One More Chance" and other all-time favorites including an occasional Led Zeppelin cover. "ZEBRA THE DVD", released in 2008 captures the band's energy and power on stage. The DVD features live concert footage from both Long Island and the House of Blues in New Orleans in addition to several interviews and bonus features. In 2010 Zebra was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and is acknowledged as Louisiana's #1 Rock and Roll band by the Louisiana Music Commission. On October 18, 2012 Zebra was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Celebrating their 40 Anniversary in 2015 Zebra continues to WOW audiences across the country with their Hard-Rocking Live shows performing in select markets nationwide.-Making a Triumphant Return to NYC in November 2019.

Had a great time at the Zebra concert at NYCB at Westbury, the concert was almost two hours and the band played all the hits, Wondrous Stories opened for Zebra and played a great set of cover tunes, looking forward to seeing Zebra again in the near future.

  • Zebra at NYCB Theater - Westbury, NY

by Bluegravy on 11/8/21NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great for some aging rock stars. Bar and beverage services were good. Nice selection of available drinks. It was an easy entrance...just flash your vaccination card and ticket bar code and you're in. Lounge are was clean and smoke free. There was a smoking area off to the side of the lounge outside. Entrance into the theater was easily accessed and finding my seat was a breeze with the help from the many nice ushers positioned throughout the seats. Once the show started, it was obvious there were some sound issues. Seemed like both bands didn't go thru a proper sound check. The sound was being adjusted throughout the show and finally got levelled out about half way thru. Shrug. Oh well. Maybe a better and thorough sound check would be better next time around. Otherwise, I enjoyed the show and would come back.

Zebra played great, I love that band. Too bad Westburys sound system was garbage. All in all I love that band.

Zebra played great. My only isdue with the show was the sound system seemed to have issues. I could hardley hear Randy sing fir the first several songs, it seemed they git it working then had the same issue again later. When the sound was right it was great.

When I was 15 working at my summer job, the older guys gave me a bootleg of Zebra playing hammerheads, songs from the first 2 albums but before their record contract. If Zebra has a recording from these days they should release it, they were so awesome!!!!!

  • Zebra rocked Mulchadys

by Richard on 4/8/20Rating: 5 out of 5

Great show as always. Been a fan since the early 80s. Whenever they play live I make it a point to get tickets and they never disappoint. Randy Jackson is awesome guitarist and vocalist. Still rocking at 65. All I can say is that I can’t wait until the next show. Great pairing with Y&T

  • Rapides Parish Coliseum

by growlerhill on 12/23/19Rapides Coliseum - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Very solid sets by all three bands: Post Profit, Lillian Axe, and Zebra. Lighting and staging were also very good. Post Profit played a 35-minute set, followed by Axe's 75-minute set and Zebra's 105-minute set. The only downside was the very small crowd (300-400) that showed on this evening. The coliseum looked nearly empty since it can hold approximately 10,000 people. Post Profit met fans for autographs and photos following their set, as did Zebra's Randy Jackson. A fun, fun night.

Zebra has always been on my bucket list and now i can say ive seen them and will be willing to see them again. The venue was great also, love those small theatres. It was a great way to see zebra up close and personal. Acoustic Set in the beginning was a great way to start the show with bringing out the band for the last part was awsume. Even though guy wasnt able to make it the drummer was spot on. Did a great job filling in. Highly recommend seeing zebra for a great entertaining evening

  • OK

by JB on 8/27/19The Space at Westbury Theater - WestburyRating: 3 out of 5

The opening band was great. The bartenders charged different prices for the same drink, which confused the heck out of us. Zebra played way to many cover songs, not one of Zebras best shows.

  • Brings you back

by Justonemorething on 8/27/19The Space at Westbury Theater - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

When a Zebra show is announced, I am there. I know I’m going to hear my favorite Zebra songs sprinkled with some Zeppelin. The music puts me right back into My Father’s Place when life had less responsibilities. They still sound great! I hope they make playing The Space an annual event.

  • Awesome Concert

by Mark on 8/27/19The Space at Westbury Theater - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first Zebra concert since 1990. The musicianship and performance were incredible. Even though the keyboard malfunctioned, the group was still able to bounce back and give us a great experience with some awesome Led Zeppelin covers. I also highly recommend seeing a concert at the Space at Westbury.

  • Incredible show

by chefezra57 on 2/5/19NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

I did not grow up with Zebra, my wife did and she remembers them from all the clubs on Long Island that she visited and remembers them well. She has also told me that WBAB was largely responsible for promoting them. The were extremely talented musicians and very gracious hosts for the evening. I loved the performances and being a huge Led Zepplin fan loved it when they busted into those tunes too. Westbury is an awesome venue to see a concert in as well.

The sound was very good. There was an outside area with bar . I couldn't find a seat inside so I sat outside until show started.

  • Zebra is still Rocking

by SKAcoustic on 8/21/18The Wonder Bar - Asbury ParkRating: 4 out of 5

The Band still has it. They sounded great. Played all their best songs. Covered a few Zep and Montrose. The Wonder Bar is a great little bar to check out a band that used to fill much large places. They do a good job with sound. Security is not uptight. Great Concert.
