About

Zebra on Tour

Zebra galloped out of New Orleans in early 1975. The trio, consisting of Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso, concocted their moniker from a 1926 Vogue magazine cover and soon won over the South and East Coast. In 1982 Zebra's self-titled debut album went gold and was the fastest selling debut album in Atlantic Records' history thanks to the radio and MTV airplay of "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door?". Veteran producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick) also helmed the follow-up, "No Tellin' Lies". The songs range from the hard-rocking "Wait Until the Summer's Gone" to the Beatle-esque ballad, "Lullaby". With the release of their third Atlantic album "3.V", Zebra took their career one step farther: the album's credits read "Produced by Randy Jackson and Zebra". Thus, for the very first time, the group gained complete control of its creative output. A collection of the finest songs they have ever written, "3.V" clearly shows Zebra's lasting power and originality. In all, Zebra fans enjoyed a total of five videos aired on MTV and have given the band combined album sales of nearly 2 million worldwide. Zebra emerged from the studio again in 2003 with "ZEBRA IV", on Mayhem Records. This could possibly be the best effort by Zebra to date with powerful cuts which include "Arabian Nights", "Why" and "Waiting To Die". Zebra's live performances often last over two hours and showcase their new material along with all the classic Zebra tunes: "Who's Behind the Door?", "Tell Me What You Want", "Wait Until the Summer's Gone", "Bears", "One More Chance" and other all-time favorites including an occasional Led Zeppelin cover. "ZEBRA THE DVD", released in 2008 captures the band's energy and power on stage. The DVD features live concert footage from both Long Island and the House of Blues in New Orleans in addition to several interviews and bonus features. In 2010 Zebra was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and is acknowledged as Louisiana's #1 Rock and Roll band by the Louisiana Music Commission. On October 18, 2012 Zebra was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Celebrating their 40 Anniversary in 2015 Zebra continues to WOW audiences across the country with their Hard-Rocking Live shows performing in select markets nationwide.-Making a Triumphant Return to NYC in November 2019.

  • Always Amazing!

ZEBRA just somehow continues to get better and better. I have been watching them since the 70's. They were fantastic then and even better now. The albums are all good but seeing them live brings those songs to another level. Go see ZEBRA, you will not be disappointed.

  • A Return to 1983

by AJ on 11/25/23The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Randy Jackson has not lost a step in his singing and playing- Robert plant can’t even sing like this anymore. Felix and Guy are still one of the best rhythm sections in Rock! Those first two Zebra albums rank up with the best of the best in hard rock! Go see Zebra as fast as you can -great show!

As always, Randy hit all his notes with power and they rocked the place as they did last year! Love seeing this consistent band!

Band was Great. House of Blues overbooked and was packed like sardines. Only stayed for half of the show because of it. Didn't open doors on time. Had to wait out for and hour.

  • Zebra rocks NOLA

by Bear on 11/21/23House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Zebra at the House of Blues in New Orleans on November 18, 2023. I used to see them when they were first starting out. I hadn't seen them since the early nineties, and I was really looking forward to seeing them again. I was concerned how Randy Jackson would sound, considering his age. I can tell you he has not lost a beat. He and the band sounded as good as ever. Guy Gelso the drummer, put on an amazing drum solo for a man 72 years old. I had a great time, and a lot of memories came back to me watching this band. Zebra rocks.

  • Big hair blocker

by Can’t see on 11/21/23House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

First the venue was too small, venue staff directed us to the bar in the back, but when we returned we had to go to the back of the line which was around the block. We were originally about fifth in line. Inside had trouble pulling up tickets to scan. Big head wig haired lady was blocking the stairs and told everyone that she was saving the area below her for her boyfriend that was either invisible or a no show. He never arrived. This woman continued to way her head and arms so anyone behind her couldn’t see. I video taped some of the show and all you see is her big fake hair. Some older people are so inconsiderate. Loved the show of what I could see.

  • Rocking Like the ‘80’s

by NOLA Dad on 11/21/23House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The show was a celebration of their self titled first album and they sounded as good as they did in 1983! Played the album in its entirety and ended the show with an encore performance of Kashmir by Led Zeppelin that sent the crowd home yearning for more. Can’t wait for them to come back to there home in New Orleans!

  • Welcome Back Home!

by Lil2na on 11/21/23House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Zebra, once again, did not disappoint! Played their top hits for 2 hours and added a little Zep at the end. Nothing like seeing them at the House of Blues. Very intimate. Sound was tight and they were ready to rock! Can't wait for their return back home.

  • 40+ years later, Zebra did not disappoint!

by Lisa T on 11/21/23House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I have loved this band since my high school days in the 80's and the show at the House of Blues in New Orleans on November 18th was like a bit of a reunion - coming back to my hometown to see the show with my lifelong friend and my son whose musical interest was also informed in his early years by this band. Zebra killed it! They sounded like they always have, and each band member put 110% of themselves out there. The crowd was enamored as everyone sang along at the top of their lungs - everyone sharing in the same experience. Zebra put on a show - and it was a night - that I will never forget. If you have a chance, go see Zebra! You will be glad you did. #ZebraLetTheMusicPlayOn!

  • Awesome show

by Mary on 11/21/23House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Show was awesome! I would like to also say that the volume was tad loud like the reverb was too much. They put on a hell of a show and the drummer solo was spot on fantastic! It amazing the turnout for these guys! Would definitely see them again and again!

  • Zebra @ Cleveland House of Blues

by RegionRat17 on 11/13/23House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

Great show, great musicians! I’ve been waiting a long time for them to come to Cleveland and they did not disappoint! It was heavily centered on their first album with at least one song off their other 3 albums. Their sound was great even if the songs were played slightly slower than the album tracks. Very enjoyable!!

Randy Jackson & the boys (Felix and Guy) made my 40 year wait to see Zebra well worth it. Hooked up with an old friend I haven't seen in decades, and that made it more special. Come back to Ohio waaaaay sooner next time Zebra!!!

  • Amazing Band

by Lyn on 6/24/23House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Zebra was great as always. The seating @ the House of Blues (right side) was not so good. Could barely see Randy. Would love to see them with the Houston Symphony Orchestra.

  • Zebra Great Show

by Carl on 6/20/23House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Zebra first in 1985 at the building formerly known as The Summit when they opened for REO Speedwagon. I had heard a couple of their songs but, I am sure you can all guess what those were. I bought both their albums immediately, well cassette tapes to be fair. And waited for them to break big because they would. Well, I did not get to see them again until this show for the 40th Anniversary of the first album. I always tried to find them playing near wherever I was but timing was never right. I heard just the day before that they would be in town so I looked for tickets and there were still good seats available. We had dinner at House of Blues which was good, we were picked out of the line and offered the opportunity to go to the Founder’s Room and enter through the stage entrance bypassing the line. Great setup, and great luck for us. The opening act really did not do it for me, but maybe someday they will get it together a little better. Zebra came out and was amazing. I was greatly impressed with how great they sounded, even more impressive was Randy Jackson’s vocal control and ability to hit most of the high notes he is known for. And to be clear most meant all to me, I did not notice the songs being played or sung in a lower key. All the hits were played as well as a great cover of “Kashmir”. I did not time the show but 90+ minutes seems about right. Best show I have seen since R40.

Excellent concert. They were fabulous. I will go see them again if they come back to Houston.

  • The House of Blues Show Even Outdid the Rise Rooftop Show

by scottsh115 on 6/20/23House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a fantastic show. Randy's guitar playing is always on, but tonight, his voice sounded no different than 40 years ago. Felix was very animated and engaged the crowd. Guy was thunderous all night, and his solo during "The La La Song" was dramatic. At my age, the House of Blues balcony is a nice place to see a show because I have a dedicated chair, but sitting near the center is preferable to seats on the outer edges.
