About

Cat Stevens rose to fame in the swinging '60s with chart-topping pop hits such as "Matthew and Son" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest." His early career was interrupted by a near-fatal battle with tuberculosis - a turning point that ignited his quest for peace and understanding. Emerging from this experience, he rapidly rose to become one of the most prolific singer/songwriter icons of the '70s, captivating the world with soul-stirring anthems such as "Wild World," "Father and Son," "Peace Train," and "Morning Has Broken." His classic albums Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat have earned him a rightful place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following another dangerous encounter with fate and a near-drowning experience in 1975, Cat's life took a spiritual turn as he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. Leaving the music industry behind, Yusuf dedicated his life to God, family, and humanitarian work, for which he received numerous prestigious international honors, including the World Award for "humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war" and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by The Nobel Peace Laureates.

The latest chapter is Yusuf's return to music, through which he has re-joined his past and present lives. Now known as Yusuf/Cat Stevens - a name that represents the synergy between the two key periods of his existence - his inspirational story is one of quest, survival, and redemption. With more than 100 million records sold and billions of streams, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness, and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.

Pristine, heavenly, sweet, humorous, delightful. The whole concert storytelling was beyond wonderful , I loved your singing "There's A Place" from West Side Story. Lisa, Lisa and Katmandu were beautiful. Thank youu over and over and over again.

  • What a poignant concert!

by NikoShane on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf did not disappoint. I loved how he walked through the chronology of his upbringing which gave a little insight into this youth and adulthood and fit his songs in around them. His voice is great, his "band mates" were great musicians. Great to hear a sense of humor and his longing for more in his life, like God, and his references to God. Cat Stevens is so soft-spoken - I never knew as this was my first concert seeing him - and gentle. Many of us did NOT appreciate the screaming of a couple of people in the audience "CAAAAAT" constantly - you couldn't hear what he was saying when they did that! Great concert.

  • The best concert I've ever seen!

by threefleweast on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was unbelievable. He told the story of his life, and in the process, taught us so much about him and his songs. He sounded amazing and touched on all his best songs, as well as some covers. Very unique concert and truly special.

  • It was such a GREAT night

by MoJen on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I went to show full of excitement and we were NOT disappointed!!!!! It was a GREAT show. His voice is still wonderful and he said presence on stage was humble. The stage setup was brilliant. The show itself was intimate and exciting! I hope I will have an opportunity to see him again.

It was so great to have Cat Stevens perform again. It was such an uplifting show. His songs are timeless and he sounds the same. Well, maybe somewhat older, but he still has that voice. A must see!

  • Yusuf/Cat Stevens - Boston

by Rayca1954 on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cat brings us back to the very beginning of his career with song and narrative. The show is broken up into 2 sets with a brief intermission. Cat/Yusuf is accompanied by 2 other musicians, not a full band but the music filled the theatre. He is a true artist and entertainer. I highly recommend the show.

  • Nostalgic, thoughtful and spiritual

by bostonfantastic on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

He was one of my favorites in the 70's when I was in college so his music brought back a rush of memories. His voice is still fantastic and his search for meaning seems as relevant now as it was then. A wonderful performance.

  • The Cat Man has Still Got it!

by KevHarry on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The Yusuf/Cat Stevens concert was outstanding. His voice still sounds great after all these years and most sounded just like they did way back when they were recorded. I like how he pretty much told his life history and weaved the songs into the story, telling the stories behind the songs too.

  • A lovely trip down memory lane

by ChickenJack on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf/Cat Stevens sounds the same way now as he did when I last saw him exactly 40 years ago when he performed at Madison Square Garden. He's pitch-perfect, and his talent on the variety of guitars he uses during his performance is wonderful to see and hear. Forget all the background noise you have heard about his political/religious orientation. It's all too difficult to sort out, and none of it was aired at his performance. Indeed, what comes through to the audience is that he's a man in constant search for the "truth," and it would appear that his appetite for a peaceful life is now satisfied by revisiting the beautiful music he composed so many years ago.

  • Fantastic Show!

by Cheewie on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What can I say, Cat Stevens delivered an unforgettable performance. He is an inspiration to all of us who may want to act on our beliefs but fail to take action. He stood behind his beliefs.

  • The Cat Stevens concert was magical!

by Wango1 on 9/20/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I am lucky to get to see many concerts from bands of my youth. This was the best concert EVER! He sang all the songs you wanted to hear, including some of the more obscure ones from Tea for a Tillerman like Where Do the Children Play, Do You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out. Also sang his hits like Peace Train, Father and Son, Wild World. His voice sounded great and his reflective, soul searching songs are as relevant today as they were in the 70s. He played 33 wonderful songs - absolutely amazing. It was almost like a religious experience. Do not miss it!

  • A walk down memory lane!!

by Bucketliatcheck on 9/18/16Sony Centre for the Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

To see Yusuf Cat Stevens was like a dream come true!! It was a night to go back in time to my childhood- some memories were sparked that I didn't even know we're there.. brought such joy and tears!! The only drawback to the nite was he took at 20 minute break after oniy on stage for an hour! Considering it started a half hour late due to the strict security entrance I felt a break should not have happened ..

  • A dream come true....

The most beautiful artist around that touches your soul through song. Seeing him live brings me to tears. I love Cat Stevens. Thank you for an unforgetable night.

  • CAT STEVENS

by KARKENCAR on 9/16/16Kimmel PAC - PHILRating: 2 out of 5

It wasn't like I thought it would be. Cat Stevens talked half the concert about his life. Then with half the concert left he played other artist songs, and some of his songs. The concert started 35 minutes late, then After 50 minutes into the concert, Cat Stevens took a break. I just wished he played all his GREAT SONGS. The concert was ok, but so many great songs not played by the CAT. I could have been better.

  • Cat Stevens awesome concert

by Vapemom on 9/15/16Sony Centre for the Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Concerts like this are the reason I love live music. He played familiar songs and covers that had a meaning to him. He told stories and joked with us. This was a wonderful, warm experience. Thank you Cat.

  • He's magnificent!!

by Riofan on 9/8/16Los Angeles - Laguna HillsRating: 5 out of 5

I've always loved his music. My whole life I listened to him and because I was always listening to Cat Stevens, my kids became fans also. I went to see him live with my daughter 2 years ago. And now again with my other daughter. So glad he's back and someday I hope that I can let him know in person how his music gave me the uplift I needed on so many difficult days. His voice has the power to heal anybody!!
