About

Cat Stevens rose to fame in the swinging '60s with chart-topping pop hits such as "Matthew and Son" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest." His early career was interrupted by a near-fatal battle with tuberculosis - a turning point that ignited his quest for peace and understanding. Emerging from this experience, he rapidly rose to become one of the most prolific singer/songwriter icons of the '70s, captivating the world with soul-stirring anthems such as "Wild World," "Father and Son," "Peace Train," and "Morning Has Broken." His classic albums Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat have earned him a rightful place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following another dangerous encounter with fate and a near-drowning experience in 1975, Cat's life took a spiritual turn as he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. Leaving the music industry behind, Yusuf dedicated his life to God, family, and humanitarian work, for which he received numerous prestigious international honors, including the World Award for "humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war" and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by The Nobel Peace Laureates.

The latest chapter is Yusuf's return to music, through which he has re-joined his past and present lives. Now known as Yusuf/Cat Stevens - a name that represents the synergy between the two key periods of his existence - his inspirational story is one of quest, survival, and redemption. With more than 100 million records sold and billions of streams, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness, and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.

I never thought I would get a chance to see him/hear him in concert. This was certainly worth the wait. I saw him on 9/19 and again on 9/20. Just fantastic, emotional, so many feelings and so many memories.

He is simply amazing. The show was very personal, with him obviously singing his best hits but also sharing with the audience what was going on with his life and his inspirations for the songs.

  • Excellent Show

by HamandEggs on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf, formerly Cat Stevens, put on a great show at the Beacon Theater. He played a very full retrospective of his biggest hits and some deep cuts as well. The man was in fine voice and shared some funny, heartfelt anecdotes about his songs, career, and faith. By the end of two sets the entire crowd was singing along in an all-out love-fest.

A wonderful.. nostalgic show Hadn't seen him live in 40+ years. Had some trouble hearing all his speaking, though He was a bit slow to warm up personally, but that made the moment he did all the more special. Great show. If I hadn't been so tired,. I'd have gone back the next night

  • A warm night with an old friend!

by BigAppleJak on 9/22/16Beacon Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What can you say about a performer who tours as frequently as a comet orbits? Yusuf (Cat Stevens) did not disappoint, playing crowd favorites that are the soundtrack to many people’s childhoods. His voice is still as crisp as it sounds in recordings and his stage presence is of a man humbled by the love that he receives from the audience. His backup performers also added a nice element allowing for familiar harmonies and some additional guitar and bass. Yusuf’s anecdotes were very revealing about his life and himself and the only faith-based proselytizing that he spoke of was love and peace. He even went as far to quote a Disney character about tolerance and living in harmony. His staging was simple and a mock-up of his childhood home, which made for an inviting retreat for him and it allowed the audience to feel that they were invited into an intimate setting, even taking a tea break!

  • Cat did what he had to do

    by NJNetsfan32 on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The tickets were a little pricey but since he hadn't played in NY in 40 years we had to go. He put on a decent set and spoke honestly about his career, at times funny and at times sincere. He sang most of his hits, but I would have liked a little more speed to his songs. Would have liked to hear "Another Saturday Night". Overall, a decent show and I was glad we went.

  • Cat Stevens wows Beacon Theatre in NYC

by woboggie on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

From the minute the curtain went up and standing on stage in NYC ready to perform his endless library of hits you felt and energy at the beacon theatre Cat Stevens had finally returned to the stage to share with the audience a lifetime of memories if the form of music which has stood the test of 50 years. From opening with Where do the Children Play? to ending the night with the fairy tale like Morning has Broken Cat Stevens spent the evening reminiscing and coming to peace with his storied past and reflecting on his future. It was a magical evening of music peace and love and one that I will never forget Thanks Cat and welcome back ...........

  • Even better than the last time.

by WhinyMcGee on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I had the good fortune to see Yusuf/Cat Stevens during his tour a couple of years ago promoting "Tell 'em I'm Gone" which was wonderful, but this show took things to a completely different level. Two generous sets of music, interspersed with personal recollections and stories, he was accompanied by only two backup musicians and played not only his biggest hits, but some deep tracks and a couple of covers. His voice is still quite strong and is entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The crowd couldn't have been more enthusiastic, and while calling it a magical night might sound trite, it really was.

  • Transformative

by Ansoniette on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Cat/Yusif's performance was transformative! A message of love, peace and acceptance delivered with that same sweet voice--relevant and necessary following terrorist threats and political nonsense. We were soothed and entranced.

  • Yusuf / Cat - Unbelievable show at the Beacon

    by Ethcronicity2 on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The songs are like old friends you haven't seen in years but are so happy to have come around to join you for a coffee and chat. And the linear story that Cat tells as he walks you through his life through song was unexpected and just beyond incredible. I've never been so moved at a concert before. Can't recommend this show enough to anyone who loves this wonderful charming man. He's still got it.

  • Amazing.

    by MichaelD59 on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The Yusuf Cat Stevens show was an incredible experience. It was a musical description of his career. The Beacon Theatre was a beautiful back drop for the telling of his story. What an amazing song writer and singer. If you have ever loved his music, you should make every effort to see one of his shows. You will not leave disappointed.

  • Cat Stevens. His show; I died & went to Heaven

    by BigAl1955 on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The Cat at the Beacon, fabulous area of NYC, the Theater (Beacon) is exquisite and the SHOW, 3 hours of the Cat. He told stories, sang like an angel and couldn't be more personable. I waited 50 years to see my favorite act ever (sorry Beatles). He was everything I wanted and needed him to be. I now await a future show of his to come. SEE him. Make it a bucket list item if, like me, you never saw him.

  • Amazing Show

by blapierre on 9/21/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf was amazing. The show was perfect. He played every song you could hope for. His voice is amazing. The man preaches non violence and kindness to others. Something that is missing in the wold today. I saw him 2 years ago and he is better and better. The only negative were the idiots that screamed out stupid stuff because they are self asorbed losers.

  • A Cat's Attic: Yusuf / Cat Stevens

  • Cat Stevens / Yusuf - MUST SEE; amazing!!!

by BTEstacylovesCAT on 9/21/16Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The Wang in Boston has incredible acoustics. Beyond that, Cat Stevens/Yusuf is amazing. Just A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. He is funny and his talent has sustained, even improved, after decades. To hear his music live and in person was a gift, an incredible musical moment for which I am so grateful to have had (twice!). Everything about this man is wonderful. The message of love and peace resonates so fully through so many songs. I feel blessed to have heard classics performed by him and can only hope to see him again. His songs, his voice, his stories moved me to tears so many times. He is a must see and this venue just enhances the experience.
