About

Cat Stevens rose to fame in the swinging '60s with chart-topping pop hits such as "Matthew and Son" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest." His early career was interrupted by a near-fatal battle with tuberculosis - a turning point that ignited his quest for peace and understanding. Emerging from this experience, he rapidly rose to become one of the most prolific singer/songwriter icons of the '70s, captivating the world with soul-stirring anthems such as "Wild World," "Father and Son," "Peace Train," and "Morning Has Broken." His classic albums Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat have earned him a rightful place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following another dangerous encounter with fate and a near-drowning experience in 1975, Cat's life took a spiritual turn as he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. Leaving the music industry behind, Yusuf dedicated his life to God, family, and humanitarian work, for which he received numerous prestigious international honors, including the World Award for "humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war" and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by The Nobel Peace Laureates.

The latest chapter is Yusuf's return to music, through which he has re-joined his past and present lives. Now known as Yusuf/Cat Stevens - a name that represents the synergy between the two key periods of his existence - his inspirational story is one of quest, survival, and redemption. With more than 100 million records sold and billions of streams, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness, and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.

by MarezyPa on 9/24/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was one of the most magical concert experiences of my life! I felt the same way after seeing him in 2014 @The Tower in Philadelphia, and didn't think any other Cat Concert would ever exceed the thrill, joy, and excitement I felt that evening! Tuesday night's concert at The Beacon went beyond my expectations .. For his performance.. The venue .. And the crowd! Will never be forgotten!!

I was 18 when I saw him last at Madison Square Garden. The emotion I felt then was the same as I felt tonight seeing him again at the Beacon Theatre. What an incredible voice and spirit! His songs will be in my heart forever. I am so glad he decided to come back to us and share his gift~

  • Cat/Yusuf was Awesome!!

by ibelmer on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf/Cat Stevens, an iconic performer and humanitarian, was simply awesome. Tracing his musical roots from the Beatles through his most popular hits was tremendous. An inspiring concert and individual. First saw him in 1974 and then in 2014 and 2016.

  • The CAT was fantastic

by WILLYBRO on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This has to be the best concert this year for me. Cat Stevens is awesome!! My first time at his concert, also. The story telling and music selection to go along with it was fantstic. But his talent, his voice, his views and his love is what made this the best for me. I recommend anyone to attend.

  • Amazing!

    by kittymouse631 on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show...Although he played a number of songs I didn't know he also played all the fan favorites and he sounds exactly as he did 50 years ago. He also told a few stories which were great to hear. So glad I got to attend this show.

  • A return to greatness

    by RTF37 on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What a truly remarkable show, it felt like you were sitting in the artists living room and he was playing for friends and family. Even though he hasn't played in New York in 40 years it felt as if he had never left. He has gotten better with age. A memorable night.

  • Long hidden treasures found in Yusuf/Cat's Attic!

    by ArtieD3 on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing show we witnessed. There was not a song missing that we could think of that should've been played. If you were there, you know what I mean. If you missed this show, may I suggest you get to one. Great story-teller, artist, performer. Thanks for an unforgettable show. Days later, and I'm still humming/singing songs.

  • Magic

    by afew33 on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Cat Stevens chronicled his hits (and misses!) over the course of 2 sets (with an intermission in the middle). He played several cover songs by artists from whom he's been influenced (Carole King, the Beatles). He was funny, personable, and showcased that he hasn't missed a beat since his hiatus (his singing, guitar playing, and piano playing were all on point). This show was incredibly uplifting and left me with a great feeling inside.

  • Cat Stevens/Yusuf is better than ever.

    by tommy2248 on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was better than the one in 2014!! He did more songs and included some that I hadn't heard live before, i.e. Morning Has Broken and Moonshadow. His backup band was great and he apologised for Alun Davies not being able to be there. The only thing missing was the female vocal backup singers on some of the songs, mainly Oh Very Young. The theme was a good one and he sang many of his earlier songs, including I Love My Dog.He also sang one of my favorites, Into White.

  • Cat's Attic @ the Beacon

by Lunawest on 9/23/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

If you always hoped you would one day get to see Cat Stevens play his music live, by all means - GO SEE THIS! His voice and passion are as vibrant now as during his heyday. He is also an amazing songwriter and a fabulous storyteller. Bought this ticket on a whim, and SO very happy I did. Not to be missed by those who appreciated his music as part of the soundtrack of their adolescence!

Cat Stevens...the music of my life in the 1970's. I never thought I would see him in concert...but dreams do come true. From the moment Cat Stevens /Yusuf stepped on the stage a the Beacon Theater in NY it was magic. An emotional and uplifting journey through story and music. I can't say enough how wonderful this concert was...like reuniting with an old friend. Love <3

  • The Cat's meow

    by Christine118 on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I can't say enough about this concert. It was magical! The Beacon Theater was the perfect venue for Yusef/Cat's comeback tour. I was in the balcony but felt as though I were with him in his ..well...attic. The way he told us the story of his life woven with music that inspired him and his own songs was brilliant! It was wonderful to hear him again, not only that rich deepness of his voice but also his genuine words of peace. I'm a fan all over again!

  • Cat Stevens at the Beacon

    by Tim456 on 9/22/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Almost 2 1/2 hours of Cat playing and telling stories. He was so happy to be there and we were too. His voice is still rich, his guitar tone beautiful and the two musicians supporting him were just right. If you have the opportunity to see him, take it. Who knows if you'll get another chance? I waited 40 years for him to come back to NY.
