About

Cat Stevens rose to fame in the swinging '60s with chart-topping pop hits such as "Matthew and Son" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest." His early career was interrupted by a near-fatal battle with tuberculosis - a turning point that ignited his quest for peace and understanding. Emerging from this experience, he rapidly rose to become one of the most prolific singer/songwriter icons of the '70s, captivating the world with soul-stirring anthems such as "Wild World," "Father and Son," "Peace Train," and "Morning Has Broken." His classic albums Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat have earned him a rightful place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following another dangerous encounter with fate and a near-drowning experience in 1975, Cat's life took a spiritual turn as he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. Leaving the music industry behind, Yusuf dedicated his life to God, family, and humanitarian work, for which he received numerous prestigious international honors, including the World Award for "humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war" and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by The Nobel Peace Laureates.

The latest chapter is Yusuf's return to music, through which he has re-joined his past and present lives. Now known as Yusuf/Cat Stevens - a name that represents the synergy between the two key periods of his existence - his inspirational story is one of quest, survival, and redemption. With more than 100 million records sold and billions of streams, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness, and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.

If you were a fan of Cat Stevens you will not be disappointed in Yusuf's recent tour. His voice is still stellar and the story woven throughout his concert helps the listener capture the context of his world then and now.

  • No surprise

The thought occurred to me of; why bother writing a review? How could his concert be anything other than outstanding?? Any person who knows any of Yusuf/Cat's songs from his early days will thoroughly enjoy his show. He still looks great and sounds fantastic. So it is no surprise that his show was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I never wanted it to end. :-)

  • Cat Stevens Was Epic

    by Dave8294 on 10/4/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

He put on an excellent show in Chicago. I first saw him at the Chicago Stadium in 1976, and he was just as good in 2016. His music is timeless, and he engaged with the audience throughout the concert to give everyone a sense as to how his music was developed and how he evolved as a musician.

  • Cat was so amazing - I am glad we went

by MKGL on 10/4/16Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Cat Stevens was just fabulous! His voice was spot on! He took us through a beautiful journey of his life and played the songs that came from these life experiences, weaving in magical moments and a sweet sense of humor. I never realized he toured early on with Jimmie Hendrix and Englebert Humperdink! I learned a lot of the man and have immense respect for him, his music and life. Cat played 30 songs for a total of 2 hours of music! God Bless you Cat - keep on singing out!

  • CS still got it

Awesome concert. I felt it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the greats. I loved every minute. There was a lot of feedback from the mics in the second half. It sounded like someone's hearing aid going off and on the whole time. I had a headache from it all the way home. Imagine trying to listen to someone like Cat Stevens while that was happening.

When I heard Cat would be their, I immediately bought a plane ticket from Chicago I liked it because of the Music, he sang for almost 2 hours with a Short Intermission. Being a Country fan, being in the Ryman was just incredible for me

When Cat Stevens quit I felt like someone had died. Saw him every time he came to USA. I wished so much to see him again and this concert was perfect. He played his guitar and talked to the audience about his life. We drove 6 hrs there and 6 hrs back. He sounded as good as ever and was so magical. Ryman Auditorium is cool and the crowd was great.

  • Dream Come True

by Caryberryb on 9/30/16Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Extreme good fortune gave me this opportunity to feel the love that exudes from Cat Stevens. His music informed my teenage years and continued to be a part of my life. I was so afraid I would never see him live again. The tenderness, spirituality and intimacy of 'A Cat's Attic" made it one of the absolute BEST live musical experiences ever. His voice is 98% of what it was when I saw him 40 yrs ago - only the very highest notes are gone. Tears formed many times- The Wind, O Very Young, Father and Son, I Go Where True Love Goes, The First Cut is The Deepest, and on and on. There was not a single song left out of the set and his casual and humorous narrative was amazing. An added bonus was the appearance of Jack White during Where Do The Children Play. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!!

  • One of the best

    by jonjon68 on 9/30/16Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Let me just say that this is one of the best recent concerts I have been to. Yusuf/Cat was fantastic!!! He seemed to be drinking in the audience's reaction of standing ovations and applause. He sounded great. Played his guitar like he had never put it down for so many years! I am so thankful that he chose the Ryman Auditorium and the city of Nashville to visit on this 50th Anniversary tour. I definitely would recommend anyone of any age to see this man. His songwriting is up there with the best in the business. The song are timeless. So don't wait to go see this man. Go whenever you have any opportunity.

  • A trip back in time with an old friend

by strangeloop on 9/30/16Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf was gracious, charming, funny, and humble. All the qualities that we have loved from his music and lyrics for 50 years now were on display. It was a real gift to be able to hear his songs at the Ryman.

  • Iconic, historic, worth the 27 year wait

Cat Stevens was Better than anything I could have imagined or hoped for!!Concert venue was incredible, second only to Colleseum in Vegas for Celine. Liking being in a music room sitting with him. Don't miss at any price!

  • Cat Stevens Becon Theater

    by stealth1 on 9/28/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The second night of a two night run was another amazing journey. He changed up the set list and we were treated to several different songs including Up on the Roof. His voice was clear and he was a very sincere person in his story telling. It was more than a concert to see and here his music live after all these years, I only wish that the security to get into the venue was not so crazy. Airport metal detectors are for airports not concert venues.

  • It was like going back in time....

by DianeDF on 9/28/16The Beacon Theatre - New York CityRating: 5 out of 5

I waited 42 years for this! This was the most interesting, intimate and magical concert I have ever attended. The last time I saw him perform live was in 1974 and he did not disappoint then and he did not disappoint now. He sounds exactly the same !! The set list was fantastic. Standing ovations after all his songs and he definitely deserved it. He used an acoustic guitar, piano and two other musicians joined in with guitars. No drums, no amps...just his sweet and melodic voice. It was the perfect show. Don't hesitate going to this show. You will be mesmerized. This man still has what it takes to capture his audience. I hope and pray he will be back and continue to warm our hearts with his songs.

  • Cat Stevens just as you wanted him to be

    by Rusty2020 on 9/24/16Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Yusuf / Cat Stevens basically did a mini autobiography on stage. He paid homage to the artists who influenced him and gave background on some of his best known works
