About

Yung Bans In Concert

A rising star on the SoundCloud rap scene, Yung Bans gives off the impression of a new-age rock star, with his lanky six-foot frame and penchant for cutting-edge fashions (on the cover of his latest mixtape, ‘Yung Bans Vol. 5,' he poses in homage to the cover of David Bowie's ‘Aladdin Sane' album, lightning bolt and all).

The 19-year-old Atlanta native channels that same brash energy in his performances. At his packed 2018 show at New York City's SOB's, where he brought out Lil Tracy to perform "Lonely," and at the 2018 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash in Chicago's Douglas Park, where he performed a medley of hits backed by live electric guitar.

Yung Bans Background

After a total stranger came up to a 13-year-old Yung Bans at a skate park and said, "You look like you rap," he went home and wrote two songs that night and recorded them the next day. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Born Vas Coleman, Bans was born in St. Louis but raised in Atlanta. He'd been quietly writing songs under the moniker "Ban Boy" since sixth grade, having grown up obsessed with Chief Keef, Tyler the Creator, and Lil Wayne. By high school, he'd changed his name to Yung Bans and was recording in a makeshift studio with friends (including soon-to-be star Playboi Carti).

Bans recorded his breakthrough single, the Carti-featuring "4Tspoon," in 2015, and featured alongside Ski Mask the Slump God on XXXTentacion's "ILOVEITWHENTHEYRUN" the same year.

He's since become a familiar face in the SoundCloud rap set with his hazy, melodic take on trap, collaborating with YBN Nahmir on "Ridin" and Lil Skies on "Lonely" — the latter was featured in the season two premiere of Donald Glover's ‘Atlanta.' The 19-year-old doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon — since 2017, he's released five installments of his ‘Yung Bans' mixtape series.
