About

The classic Mel Brooks movie is ALIVE... and it's Broadway's award-winning MONSTER HIT!

You'll have a monstrously good time at this spectacular new production, winner of the 2008 Outer Critics Circle Award and the Broadway.com Audience Award for BEST MUSICAL!

Don't miss the sensational cast delivering all your favorite moments from the classic film, plus brand-new show-stopping numbers for the Broadway stage, including "Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' on the Ritz."

This wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that's Fronkensteen) as he attempts to create a monster—but not without scary and hilarious complications. The brains behind the laughter is mad genius and three-time Tony winner Mel Brooks himself—who wrote the music and lyrics and co-wrote the book—along with his record-breaking team from The Producers: five-time Tony-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman and three-time Tony-winning writer Thomas Meehan.

"THE BROADWAY MUSICAL AT ITS DIZZIEST, GLITZIEST AND FUNNIEST!"

-Clive Barnes, New York Post

    Sophomoric at Best

by Rockne on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Very disappointing. Some sexual innuendo followed by a song that had very little to do with the non-existent plot, repeat. I think the audience laughed more at remembering the movie than they did at the play they were watching. After the show was over I realized I didn’t really like “The Producers” without Borderick and Lane and this wasn’t much different. The parts are well sung, but the material reminds me of the new Bud Light commercials, too light. I would stay home and have a Mel Brooks film festival.

    young frankenstein is hilarious

by funlove on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

excellent production, very silly, just like the movie. unfortunately, this show did not get the audience response it warranted. the actors were right-on and deserved a standing ovation which was not forthcoming from this evening's stuffy, chicago audience. if you like mel brooks, if you like the movie you will love this rendition, i will see it again in st. louis!

    Amazing

    by Kathryn39 on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This broadway show was amazing. The preformers were wonderful and entertaining. I would recommend this for anyone but there are a few adult oriented themes that I would be aware of for the younger crowed.

    Excellent adaptation

by SheWhoRocks on 11/7/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

For those who know and love the movie, this is an excellent show! All of the classic lines are there, and nothing is lost in the translation from screen to stage.

    Fun

It was fun and entertaining. The problem with stage from movie events, is that you are always comparing to the movie. Very enjoyable.

It wasn't the greatest musical I ever saw, but it made me laugh and I enjoyed it. It was a fun night out.

by aragornsmom on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Vintage Mel Brooks humor. This show is for adults. Language and some themes are unsuitbale for children. The staging was wonderful. The actors and actresses clearly enjoy this show. Dancing was superb as well

    FUN! FUN! FUN!

by chicagowoman on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Young Frankenstein was both funny and fun! The cast is phenomial. First off, Dr. Frankenstein really captured the role and did not miss a beat throughout the 2 hour and 40 minute (with an intermission) performance. I never would have believed that the show was that long as it flew by. Inga, his laboratory assistant, did a fabulous job and OMG she is flexible!! Igor was definitely one talented individual connecting with the audience immediately.....VERY funny. Frau Blücher, the maid did a great job too as did the "mad cap" fiancée, the blind man and the cop. Of course, I must comment on the Monster.....just amazing!! In addition to the main characters, the ensemble did a great job livening up the stage....great direction! Great costumes and make up! The orchestra/band conductor played so seamlessly that one may have thought that it was pre-recorded....great job everybody!!!!

    Young Frankenstein - FANTASTIC

    by SueB4841 on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Roger Bart (Young Dr Frankenstein) was fabulous (and good looking too)! Loved his voice! Shuler Hensley (The Monster) was spot on! Cory English (Igor) was extemely entertaining. Anne Horak (Inga) was beautiful with the voice of an angel. Joanna Glushak (Frau Blucher...) was fantastic!!! The entire cast did a fabulous job! I did hear a few missed notes from the brass section of the orchestra, but I'll forgive them & say it was nerves.

    Young frankenstein was fabulous

    by teddybear18 on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This musical was great, had everything from special effects, singing dancing etc... and just flowed from scene to scene. I would just caution bringing kids because of the use of some profanity and sexual humor.

    WOW! WOW! WOW!

    by AKG1986 on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was INCREDIBLY funny, DEVILISHLY intelligent. It was like watching a good Tim Burton movie, on stage. Roger Bart, the leading actor simply makes you fall in love with him by his BRILLIANT performance and GLAMOROUS CHARISMA. If you can, go and experience all those SPARKLING costumes, great songs, special effects (wow!), strobe lights and DARING dialogues (mostly about SEX). It-was-AMAZING!

    Puttin' on the Glitz

by Starsurfer on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Not being a fan of many of the recent movie-turned-musical adaptations, I was skeptical. Thankfully, Mel Brooks' work here uses humor in all aspects of the production (book, choreography, costume design) to bring out the best qualities of his cult film.

Young Frankenstein - Buy Other Musicals

by countdracula on 11/6/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Expecting another Mel Brooks hit like Producers this failed miserably. Even the very funny lines of the movie came across poorly delivered especially by Frankenstein - I felt he must be counting the days before the agony would be over for him.
