About

The classic Mel Brooks movie is ALIVE... and it's Broadway's award-winning MONSTER HIT!

You'll have a monstrously good time at this spectacular new production, winner of the 2008 Outer Critics Circle Award and the Broadway.com Audience Award for BEST MUSICAL!

Don't miss the sensational cast delivering all your favorite moments from the classic film, plus brand-new show-stopping numbers for the Broadway stage, including "Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' on the Ritz."

This wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that's Fronkensteen) as he attempts to create a monster—but not without scary and hilarious complications. The brains behind the laughter is mad genius and three-time Tony winner Mel Brooks himself—who wrote the music and lyrics and co-wrote the book—along with his record-breaking team from The Producers: five-time Tony-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman and three-time Tony-winning writer Thomas Meehan.

"THE BROADWAY MUSICAL AT ITS DIZZIEST, GLITZIEST AND FUNNIEST!"

-Clive Barnes, New York Post

    Great musical.

by Indyjazz on 11/9/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Very good musical. Excellent talent. I am a huge Mel Brooks fan so this may be a bit slighted. A little long but that's ok. The only negative for me is the lines are not timed as good as I would have liked so sometimes not quite as fuuny. You may find yourself comparing the actors to the original (Gene Wilder) but I guess that isn't fair, standing up to the original would be very tough. But I liked it. Be careful when you book the Cadillac. I thought I was on the first level up front. I ended up on the second balcony in the front. That was a let down.

Out of all the matinees I have seen over the past 5-6 years, this was the best yet. In my opinion, it topped Wicked! You have asked for a "favorite moment" and I am hard pressed to find one because it was that good! The "entire " GROUP (singers, actors/actresses, dancers) were just incredible. I would see it again if it stayed in town. I highly recommend this play.

Great Show, Good Price, Excellent Theatre

by winstonlevy on 11/9/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

If you watched the movie when you were younger, or just love anything Mel Brooks then you will like this production. I felt bad for those in the audience who didn't quite know the story line or perhaps had never gotten Mel Brook's humor. The woman next to me from China fell asleep quickly and snored, so make sure you only go with someone who likes Mel Brooks! The costuming was amazing, the leading roles were very strong, and the dancing was incredible. The first act is slower than the second, but that is more an issue of script than of anything this production could have done. In general, it's a great night out with friends. I went to see it with my younger brother who is in law school and he loved it. It is a great gift for someone coming out of town to Chicago or for someone's birthday. I suggest going to Trattorio #10 beforehand because of its close proximity to the play and the great food (squash ravioli is outrageous). The night was really something to remember and as far as broadway in Chicago, well having gone to many broadway plays, it did have that vibe and quality, so it's a great deal for good seats, much cheaper than New York, with the same quality!

Young Frankenstein is a great time

by HerrBlucher on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Saw the show in New York, and again here is Chicago -- liked it even better in Chicago, the Cadillac Palace is a great venue. The cast is superb, the songs are great, and if you like the movie there is no way you will not like the live show.

    Awesome Show - Absolutely HILARIOUS

by Cyberiarob on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I would recommend this show to ANYONE!!! Well, except kids I suppose (a lot of sexual humor). My wife and I laughed the whole time. If the show was closer than 4 hours from my home, I would probably go see it again.

Great show. Great Cast. All of the gags from the movie included. Great lyrics in the songs, if you listen closely they have been "updated" to include timely events. Lost of fun to see.

You'll get a charge out of it (just like the monster)! Roger Bart is a greater Dr. Frankenstein, and the cast is outstanding!

    Young Frankenstein was great

    by tk21 on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Young Frankenstein was enough like the movie to call it Young Frankenstein but changed enough to make it enjoyable on stage. I haven't seen the movie years and at the start I was comparing the play to the movie but about 10 minutes in I forgot about the movie and what could or should come next and just enjoyed myself. Great cast and smooth scene changes. Highly recommended.

    Lots of laughs!

by Chicagotheaterfan on 11/8/09Cadillac Palace - Chicago

My husband and I had a great time and laughed through the whole show. The music was great, the dancing was fun and the story funny. My only complaint would be that at times it was hard to hear the cast during the production, since we were in the 10 row, I thought we should have been able to hear better.

It was a great date play. I especially enoyed it because I knew and had enjoyed the movie with Gene Wilder. The choreography was wonderful. I would like to see it again to try and catch more of the jokes that moved so fast in the lyrics of the songs. We are fans of Mel Brooks.
