About

MOS DEF / YASIIN BEY IN CONCERT:

As one of hip hop's most revered lyricists, Mos Def never ceases to surprise and impress with his dexterous flow. On stage, he cuts a stylish figure, effortlessly displaying his wordsmithing skills, charismatic energy, and boundless positivity while paying tribute to cultural icons like Mohammed Ali. Whether performing with longtime collaborator Talib Kweli or rolling solo, Mos makes sure crowds are bumped, grinded, and fully educated in the "fundamental mathematics" of his intricate verses, laying it down as only he can on tracks like "Ms. Fat Booty" and "Body Rock." With a highly anticipated new album in the works, Mos will treat fans to another dose of cerebral hip hop on his 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dante Terrell Smith, best known by his stage names Mos Def and Yasiin Bey, is a Brooklyn-born rapper, actor, and producer. His hip hop career began in the early '90s with local alt-rappers Da Bush Babees and De La Soul, with whom he collaborated before releasing his debut single "Universal Magnetic." In 1998, he teamed up with Talib Kweli to form the duo Black Star, whose debut LP is considered a contemporary classic and major influence over the "backpack rap" scene. As a solo artist, Mos Def has released four albums to critical and commercial acclaim, firmly establishing his reputation as one of the genre's most stylish lyricists. Reuniting with Talib Kweli for several highly anticipated Black Star shows in 2014, Mos has fans eagerly awaiting more as rumors of new material mount.

  • Yasiin Bey Tarnished His Legacy

by TheSavage on 12/12/16Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 2 out of 5

The show started at 8pm but Yasiin didn't hit the stage until 11pm ish. That would've been fine but I don't recognize this Yasiin guy. He was clearly high or drunk, not himself at all. My entire group was so disappointed we left shortly after he took the stage.

What was that? Have to wait hours to see the main artist of this show and that was a disappointment.

This performance was everything! Definitely one for the bucket list! I had been patiently waiting to see Yasiin live... Then I heard he was on a no fly list and stuck in South Africa and I was so sad! But nonetheless he made is back home and blessed the Bay Area with good music, exquisite lyricism, and witty humor! Like he said he is appropriate for all ages! It was truly a blessing!

I think the opening acts were great, but Yasiin was it. An amazing entertainer and artist! Loved it.

  • Even better than expected

by NewMartinaFan on 5/6/13Winston-Salem Entertainment Sports Complex - Winston-SalemRating: 5 out of 5

Yasiin Bey has gotten even better with age. I am sure they were disappointed by the turn out, but I can only imagine that any lost revenue has been made up with increased downloads. He played new material as well as songs I had forgotten about that are now in my daily rotaton.

  • Mos Def most defifinitely DISAPPOINTED!

THIS WAS THE SHORTEST UNORGANIZED SHOW I EVER ATTENDED. MOS DEF DANCED ON STAGE HALF THE SHOW. SLICK RICK, OMG, REALLY....... HE DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER HALF OF HIS VERSE. AND STAYED FOR A GOOD 4 MINUTES. I WANTED TO HEAR SOME CHILDRENS STORY, LA D DA D OR SOMETHING.... WE WERE BAMBOOZLED OUT OF OUR MONEY..... NEVER AGAIN.....
