This night was beyond amazing. I had attended quite a few Y&T concerts back in the '80s, but it had now been almost 30 years since I'd last seen one of my favorite bands live. I couldn't pass up this opportunity, because Y&T had been down to one original member for over five years now, and this show promised to be special with the return of the two other surviving members of the original, high-powered foursome to sit in on a couple songs. The show lived up to my expectations, and then some. The thunderous set lasted well over two hours and featured all the hits and some great deep cuts. The most recent additions to the band--guitarist John Nymann, bassist Brad Lang, and drummer Mike Vanderhule--were up to the task of upholding the legacy of this great band. But when founding member/drummer Leonard Haze and original rhythm guitarist Joey Alves took the stage with original (and current) lead singer/guitarist Dave Meniketti, it was magic. They played "25 Hours A Day" off their very first album, along with "Rhythm Or Not" off the album Contagious (which Haze chose even though he had left the band prior to that album), and the energy and fire was palpable. Alves returned for the final encore, "Forever," and then all the past and present members took a bow at center stage. All in all, an incredible experience.
