X y Los Straitjackets son my bueno!
by Gregario72 on 12/16/22Neptune Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5X - the original lineup, the enduring, long-lasting lineup - took the Neptune by storm with a rocking hour-and-fifteen minute set (had it not been a weeknight, I would've loved it to go on longer.) John and Exene's voices showed no signs of damage, and their harmonic vocals still meshed well. We were treated to an upright sax solo by Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake playing the vibraphone. Got to hear all the classics - "Los Angeles", "White Girl", "The Hungry Wolf", Johnny Hit and Run Pauline", their cover of "Soul Kitchen." The long-time fans were very appreciative.
Los Straitjackets did their surf luche libre thing, paying their annual tribute to The Ventures via familiar riffing in between songs. Highlights included instro-surf versions of "Linus and Lucy" and former tourmate Nick Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind", as well as the lesser-known Trashmen song "Bird Bath" (yes, it does sound somewhat like "Surfin' Bird.")
