    Women of Ireland was disappointing

by Nocona on 2/28/15The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

My husband and I went to this performance expecting to hear voices like those of the Celtic Women performers, but that was not the case. Perhaps we would have enjoyed this performance more if we had not had that expectation. We also expected strictly traditional Irish songs, but there were other songs thrown in as well. Each woman's voice was good, but did not like the "harmonizing" of the three voices together. The dancers were very good and we enjoyed both the lead dancers (male and female), as well as the two other dancers, at first but after awhile the dances began to look the same every time. The acrobat was excellent, but we failed to see the significance to the performance. The musicians were also very good, but expected to see/hear traditional bagpipes instead of the type that was played. I do not like to write less than positive comments in any ratings, but I felt it important to express them anyway.

Perhaps our expectations were wrong. We enjoyed the light-hearted music and the character of Ireland expressed in the music and the dancing. We did however get bored with the repetition and left at the internission. Not a completely fair evaluation without experiencing the presentation following the intermission.

    a good program

by rwd47 on 3/19/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

Honestly, I was expecting a more traditional show along the lines of Celtic Women or the Three Irish Tenors. What was delivered was a more modern, more pop interpretation of Irish music. That said, this was a good show. Very entertaining. The dancing and musicians were quite good. I recommend the group.

Women of Ireland - Don't waste your money

by Englishers on 3/19/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

Mediocre at best and not at all what expected. Average talent and selection of music was questionable. JPJ didn't open doors until 25 min. before opening act and that set an unfavorable tone for the evening. We left baseball to stand in line and wait for access to facility. At one point the background video looked like the inside of an intestinal tract and when John Lennon's Imagine was performed the lady beside me and I laughed. Ladies wore same shoes the entire performance and they did not fit with black dresses.

    Very unbalanced

by WinslowW on 3/19/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

First, the sound system was terrible and distracted from the performance. The piano and drums overwhelmed everything else; the Irish instruments were often not heard at all. In order to be louder than the instruments, the singers were amplified to distortion. Second, there seemed to be no coherence to the performance. There didn't seem to be any theme, more of a display of people's talents. The dancing consisted of people flitting across the stage doing the same thing over and over. There is a lot of talent in the group, but the overall performance was unsatisfying.

Women of ireland were from California

by StillaSeaDog on 3/18/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

The show was pure commercial pap! A few high kicks does not make a Step Dance. The advertisement showed about 8 or more dancers on the stage. The number of dancers in Charlottesville was half that. Interesting enough the main singers never introduced themselves nor did they identify any member of the band or the dancers.

My wife and I were very disappointed not at all what we expected. Singing was average at best and songs were not traditional. Drums too loud ! Dancers not as skilled as we are accustomed to seeing. We left during intermission as did many others

Women of Ireland was magnificent. Memorable indee

by Mac38 on 3/18/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

The show was magnificent and inspiring. We cannot single out any one actor, but the singers, dancers and band were all just great. This was our first event at JPJ Center and did not realize [as many other attendees] that the doors open just 30 minutes before the show. It would be helpful in planning to know what time the doors open. We live some 35 miles from Charlottesville and were very early thinking that parking would be limited and getting to our seats would be timely. Overall, we enjoyed it all.

Women of Ireland... More like Women of L.A.

by Tristan143 on 3/18/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

Coming into the performance of Women of Ireland at UVA's John Paul Jones Arena Saturday last, I was expecting a show comparable with other Celtic music I've experienced in the past. Anticipating something on par or at least in the style of Celtic Women, Enya, and the like, what I got instead was the most relatively expensive ticket for what may quite possibly be the worst concert I've ever been to. To keep my comments to a minimum, the sisters (singers) themselves sung in more of an American style than anything else, including such memorable numbers as "You Raise Me Up" and closing out with an unforgettably disastrous "America the Beautiful". The instrumentals had their high points, the Irish pipes in particular. Overall, however, the evidence of overdubbing was blatant, and the supplemental contribution of tap, dance, and a mediocre fiddler led the more perceptive audience members literally gaping at the real lunacy of the act's deceptive facade. To any considering seeing the act, I implore you to think otherwise.

I don't recommend this show. I was disappointed. I would see a better show watching American Idols. Was really amateurish.

Honestly I thought the show was going to have more songs about Ireland and not from American music. Enjoyed the dance part and some of the songs.

    Woman of Ireland was terrible

by slpoppy on 3/18/14John Paul Jones Arena - Charlottesville

The sound system was awful, they sang songs that didn't pertain to Ireland..over all I was really disappointed. The woman seemed to have good voices but it was hard to tell from where we were sitting.. definitely not worth the money we spent.

    Woman of Ireland Forgettable

    by Scanner11 on 3/14/14The Stanley - Utica

My seat was very poor way over in the corner right in front of the speakers, it was not like the theater was full it was not, this was NOT the best seat available. The singer were good but looked like they just rolled out of bed, hair not brushed, one even came out with a black bra under a beautiful evening gown completely ruined the look.

    Awesome Irish event

by Stinsmith on 3/13/14Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

I enjoyed the singing, but the violinist was amazing! The Irish jigs were fun to listen to, the drummer outstanding! I would have liked to see the pianist, but was completely obstructed from my seats. This was a gift for my mother's birthday, and well worth the price of admission.

    Women of Ireland

by Hose1 on 3/11/14Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

Was not entirely what I expected and not up to the level of other similar shows, namely Celtic Woman. While singing was good I expected all Irish songs and was disappointed they were all not Irish tunes. Tap dancing mostly good except when male and female danced together. Not in sync. There were several things "off" at times as if the group was not used to performing together. Drummer was way too loud at times drowning out the beautiful women's voices.

    Disappointment

by NorthamptonGuy on 3/11/14Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

There was a lot of echo in the microphone and the girls moved a little subjective and it looked forced. It seemed like a Atlantic City Casino Act. The sister just seemed unhappy. 24 "songs" but the singers only sang about 10.....too many costume changes. Sorry for the harsh review, ~K

    Women of Ireland was lacking

by CharlAmont on 3/11/14Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

The songs were not what I expected as more irish tunes would have been welcomed. The performers were more about wardrobe changes than singing
