It is a rare experience to see a movie in such a grand palace, and with such a huge audience. It is the scale of the Paramount that truly sets it apart, and it was very nearly filled to capacity.
Technically the Paramount seems to have a pretty good motion picture system. We were located about halfway back in the balcony and visibility and sound were fine. I'm a fairly tall guy, and the rows are too close together--my knees are just about jammed into the gap between the 3 seats in front of me; no other position was comfortable, reminding me of the worst seat jam-ups on some discount airlines. This, of course, is why the Paramount has a seating capacity of 3,000. Dropping that capacity to, say, 2500 might result in a more comfortable experience for those over 6 feet in height in particular, and for everyone in general. But this may be physically impossible to achieve without massive structural changes of the terracing configurations.
i will suggest that the "raffle wheel" segment was too long, and could be eliminated altogether.
Of course the organist was terrific--what is a grand palace like this without the Mighty Wurlitzer?
Overall a very fun time; I look forward to attending other movies at the Paramount. This was my first.
