This was a show I did not want to miss. I first and last saw them was with 15,000 or so others, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia in 1972. They were the first band of three to play that evening and absolutely blew everyone away with their high energy dueling guitar mastery.
I almost went alone, as much to my disappointment, most of my friends did not know who they were, or did not recall their music. With a promise of restaurant with good Indian food beforehand, I got my wife, not being a concert fan, particularly guitar oriented rock, to go with me.
The band did not disappoint. The musicianship from the four players was top notch. Andy Powell communicated nicely with the audience, and remains a top notch lead singer and guitarist. All players contributed to the vocals, and were able to capture the sound of the band from the heyday.
Bob Skeat, upbeat with a constant smile, was perfection on bass, an important component of the original Wishbone Ash sound, and offering a couple of awesome solo's, Muddy, also on lead and slide added an edge that complimented the more melodic Powell.
Crabtree on drums, even my wife noted, stood out with clarity and precision, and a backbone to allow the bad the freedom to layer the melodic adventures that is Wishbone Ash.
The only disappointment of the evening is that there was not more than 200 or so fans attending. The band played as well or better than when I fist saw them almost 45 years ago. Glad I made it to the show.
