If you had 6 stars I would give it to them--and you. Enjoyed the food, great service and can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed the show. I followed them in the 70's and was a thrill to catch them live. I missed them about a year ago when they were there and there was no way I was going to miss them this time around. Thanks for a fabulous show!

    They kicked ASH!

by Scurv on 5/18/11Shank Hall - Milwaukee

Fantastic to see them up close and personal in such a small venue. Very tight band and the show was fantastic. I hope they come back! Would have liked to have heard another track or two off "There's the Rub" but with a large discography, it's hard to play 'em all.

    Wishbone Ash Kickin' Concert!!

by USCG73 on 5/14/11Whiskey Roadhouse-Horseshoe Council Bluffs Casino - Council Bluffs

We were flat-out impressed with the way this band cranked out the music. Songs from the early years were expected, but having fresh material that stands above what is being put out by other groups in the here and now shows this band still has the raw talent and passion for what it takes. The Wishbone Ash signature guitar sound and style is still there in spades and the range of Andy Powell's voice has not suffered over the years. The bass guitar powered by Bob Skeat was rich with plenty of growl and stick-to-your-ribs feeling. Working back and forth with Joe Crabtree on drums provided plenty of sock and drive that laid the foundation for Muddy Manninen and Andy Powell to lace their guitar work and pierce the sky with a soulfulness and tone that only Wishbone Ash can do. This band has an ability to pull together the generations they span with a sound which appeals to a broad audience and do so in that everyone who hears them has a genuine appreciation of their skills, their passion, and originality.

Saw Wishbone Ash in Council Bluffs, IA on May 12. Fantastic show. They played Argus from beginning to end, FUBB, and some other great tunes. It was guitar heaven! I would highly recommend seeing the show to anyone that loves great guitar playing and solid rock music!

    I got my Wish

by Mooseboy on 5/14/11Whiskey Roadhouse-Horseshoe Council Bluffs Casino - Council Bluffs

The first time that I ever saw Wishbone Ash was when they were touring with The Who back in '71. I haven't been able to see them since then, and even though the venue was smaller and the players have all changed (except for Andy), this band is so freakin' solid it's amazing. They played the entire Argus album to our great delight. Our seats were very good- about forty feet from the stage and the mix was good, although I thought that the vocals weren't balanced precisely- a shade too much Andy, and a shade too little others. Not to say that Andy's vocals were bad, just a bit too prominent. The guitar timbres were gorgeous, and that's very important in this band. During the twin guitar parts, it was tough to tell who was playing what unless you were looking at the guys, since the sounds were matched so perfectly.

    Wishbone Ash was fantastic!!

by Steve888 on 5/14/11Whiskey Roadhouse-Horseshoe Council Bluffs Casino - Council Bluffs

I went to the show with my son and we both really enjoyed the show. It was just completely awesome to hear the argus album live. That is my favorite album of all time and its been a guidepost for my life. The guitar work in the show was exemplary and you could tell because the lively crowd was really getting into it. The new music was fantastic and I would recommend this show for everyone to see. Thank-you Wishbone Ash and Whiskey roadhouse for a terrific evening!!!!!

The band was very good. Played to the crowd and I was amazed at the talent. My overall rating was for the band only not the set up of the Whiskey Roadhouse

    Ash still brings it

    by Beatlefreak2 on 5/9/11Shank Hall - Milwaukee

The band was spectacular - ended up playing two longer (90 minute) sets. Performed 90% of Argus (save Leaf and Stream), ended the first set with a blistering rendition of FUBB and closed the second set with Phoenix. Band was absolutely on the money. Andy Powell came out for a meet and greet after the show and couldn't have been more accommodating. Truly, the band loves performing. Absolutely incredible show! I can't wait until they come back!

This is my second time seeing them live and they just can't be beat! Entertaining as well as professional performers. I have not seen any band that is comparable as of yet for such a small venue. Can't wait to see them again!

    Boned in San Juan Capistrano

by FUBB15 on 8/10/10Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan Capistrano

Stellar guitar work as usual. Muddy has a style that I love, unique sound and a perfect fit for this band. Bob is still a great rhythm man and a huge stage presence (even after a 40 hour commute!) First time seeing/hearing Joe live. He's got it down (welcome to the fray). Did not get to meet him though, needed a sig and had a physics question for him. Next time! The best version of "Phoenix" I have ever heard! Bummed that they only played for 1:20 and didn't get the new one "Reason to Believe". The Coach House was a great venue, wait staff (Jenny) as well as acoustics. This one had to be an "air trip" vise "road trip" as we are from Colorado but well worth it! Introduced two more people to The Ash. Would have been rated a five if they had played longer.

    Wishbone Ash Still HOT!

by igloominati on 7/31/10Aladdin Theater - Portland

40 years later and this band is still ROCKING! The Aladdin Theater in Portland is funky and dirty, but with the kind talent on stage you'd be happy listening anywhere. It was almost too loud for the size of the Aladdin though; my wife had trouble with her ears so we moved back to the back of the lower seating area.

Andy Powell & his pals kicked boo-tay.

by Oliasdoug on 7/29/10Humphreys Backstage Lounge - San Diego

The last time I saw Wishbone Ash was in 1976 when they were touring with Status Quo; I figured since 34 years had passed, it was time to check them out again now that the opportunity had presented itself. While it was disappointing, in a sense, that Andy Powell (he of the bald head & famous Gibson Flying V guitar) was the only remaining original band member, he nonetheless had 3 very talented musicians to back him up: Jyrki "Muddy" Manninen (lead/rhythm guitar/background vocals) from Finland; Bob Skeat (bass/background vocals); and Joe Crabtree (drums)...and through the course of their 1 hour, 40 minute set, they did a fine job of capturing the essence of Wishbone Ash's sound...including their mesmerizing twin lead guitar volleys. Andy Powell's no Martin Turner, unfortunately, but for the most part he kept up with the lead vocal duties with his own pleasant style of singing. Many fantastic WA songs were not included in this performance (most notably, "Time Was," which kind of shocked a lot of us), and I personally question Andy's decision not to include any songs from what I feel to be two of their most fantastic albums (THERE'S THE RUB and NEW ENGLAND). A lot of the newer selections, while enjoyable, I felt could have been left off the setlist....but, that's just me. It was nice seeing the guys in a small night club & to be able to get up close to the band for cell phone picture-taking, and they were cordial in meeting & chatting with us after the show. Even though we may not have gotten to hear all the songs some of us had hoped for, there is no getting away from the fact that the band put on a stupendous, good-humored & very high energy rock show with not one sour note all evening; I left with my friend, after getting autographs & talking with Andy, feeling very glad I'd chosen to come see them again. I would highly recommend this to any WA fan, old or young.

    Wishbone Ash

by tim92270 on 7/28/10Humphreys Backstage Lounge - San Diego

The show started right on time with “The King Will Come”, an excellent choice to open up with, and continued with “Warrior” and “Throw Down The Sword” that had the house rocking. Andy made a comment about how Bob had to make a 40 hour flight trip from London with various stops along the way to get to San Diego. I’ll tell you, Bob’s bass playing did not suffer from the trip, he was in excellent form for the show. They performed “Healing Ground” and “Driving A Wedge” next both superb numbers and followed those with “The Way Of The World”, Andy’s and Muddy’s dueling guitar solos were nothing short of outstanding and made the moment a highlight of the evening. Their next number was their new single “Reason To Believe” and Andy precluded it with a story about feeding the British Music Machine (note to Andy: I think America’s Music Machine is the same) The one good thing about it is , you can’t stop good music and if you like Wishbone Ash, you will definitely enjoy this new song. Their next song was “Engine Overheat” which was followed with an audience request for “Blind Eye”, which they proceeded to rock the house with. (These guys could have played anything from the 1st Wishbone Ash Album and I would have been happy), so it was not suprising to see them finish with “Phoenix” and had everyone on their feet for the remainder of the show, WA cameback out for an encore of “Blowin’ Free” and “Jail Bait” that included an audience sing-a-long on both tunes that just topped off the evening. A huge thank you again to Andy, Muddy, Bob and Joe (your drumming was excellent and not overlooked) for a great show last night and those of you in LA and OC should look forward to an awesome show at the Arcadia Blues Club and at The Coach House.

Wishbone Ash at Shank Hall Milwaukee...Stellar!

by sekrph on 4/10/10Shank Hall - Milwaukee

best performance of the US 2010 tour......the band played on fire, lots of fantastic guitar interplay and powerful musicianmanship from the legendary Ash, now celebrating 40 years of classic guitar rock, still led by guitar god Andy Powell.. good venue, just wish had longer time afterward at the venue for winding down instead of being forced out.....

Wishbone Ash at the Voodoo....nothing left to wish

by DrElectron on 4/4/10Harrah's VooDoo Lounge - Maryland Heights

Seeing a band of the caliber of Wishbone Ash in such an intimate setting , with good acoustics, decent priced beverages and some reserved seating available made this concert one of the best in a very long time! We've been to several Ash shows over the years dating back to the 70's, but this one may have been the best overall. Sure the Turner boys are no longer touring, but Bob, Muddy and Joe make a nice match for Andy these days. There's nothing lost musically, and in fact, Bob may actually be the best bassist the band has ever had (sorry Martin!) from a purely technical aspect with the instrument. So the show was musically everything we hoped for and more, but the added benefit of THIS show was it was SMOKE FREE!!!! Finally, people are waking up! Sure some louts booed this announcment, but just because those morons don't care that they are harming themselves the rest of us shouldn't have to suffer just because they can't enjoy a great concert without a smoke. Coming home smelling like an ashtray from the heavy cigarette and in some idiotic locations, CIGAR smoke got to be major drag. Kudos to the band for making this night a clear one we'll remember for a long time!
