Winnipeg Jets History
The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.
Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.
In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

The arena is able to host just over 15,300 hockey fans, making it the smallest permanent arena in the NHL. Canada Life Centre is also home to the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum.

Grandson's First NHL Game

He was able to share with his dad and mom all the exciting things he saw and participated in. He was sitting on the edge of his seat the hole game! My grandson is six years old and lives in a small town in northwestern Ontario so making the six hour car ride with his papa and mama was just what he wanted to do as he started his Christmas break from school! I thought of this as a gift for him since last March and was able to purchase the tickets back in September / October and let me tell you it was hard for this mama to keep the secret but I did till the day before we left! The best gift ever and the memories he will have a life time!

Not enough for fans

For some this is the only Jets event affordable and there was nothing. Half the players stood around talking to eachother instead of fans. Barely any signed gear for kids. It was very disheartening.

The game was exciting, ending in sudden death overtime. Even sitting in the high seats on the end of the arena the view was better than expected.

We had a great experience there. The stadium was nice and the Jets fans that were in our section were all awesome also. The love of hockey is great.
