Willy Porter offers up a blend of acoustic blues and funky-rootsy-folk. He plays a powerful, at times blazzingly fast, at times poetic, sometimes percussive guitar. Sometimes its hard to believe there isn't another guitarist AND drummer on stage with him. Despite the torrid pace he can set, he is always technically brilliant. On top of all that, he's got a great bluesy voice and a mischievous, poetic, intense, and down-to-earth stage presence. And does he ever have a great way of pulling the audience in! He's someone who can't be fully appreciated on CD; you really have to see him live to get the full sonic, visual and visceral effect of his music. Seeing him at a small, intimate and acoustically wonderous venue like Space in Evanston, you really get to appreciate just what a great performer Willy Porter is. Go see him if you get a chance! Justin Roth opened for Willy. Had never before heard Roth...a great discovery. Go to YouTube and watch his "Trembling Like A Train", "She Dances" and "Fatima's Waltz",
