You've got to see Willy live!

by RootinTootin on 11/22/10Aladdin Theater - Portland

Super concert. I've seen him in Portland for several shows now and he is consistently entertaining. This latest show was even better than last year. Super talented guitarist and composer. Thanks Willy!

Absolutely loved Willy Porter along with the Carpe Diem String Quartet! It exceeded all expectations; the talent of all involved was superb! Sound quality was also perfect.

    Another fantastic Willy Porter show!

by ewslavis on 10/12/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

Show was great as always. Willy played with the Carpet Diem String Quartet who added another dimension to Willy's already stellar setlist.

    Willy Porter is always amazing!

by BlackDove99 on 10/12/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

This was my third time seeing Willy Porter at the Ark, and he is always amazing. I've seen him both with a full band and with just his drummer, but him with a string quartet was absolutely amazing. The first set was hard to hear his singing over everything else, but it seemed like they figured out the mike levels for the second set. I thought the strings really added to his music, and bought the EP they were selling. The string quartet was amazing on their own, and I thought that Korine's own compositions were lively. Everyone onstage looked like they were having a good time, and that energy was feeding the audience. I would have liked to have seen more from both Willy and Carpe Diem as separate groups, but hopefully they'll come back!

    Amazing!

by genboy on 10/12/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

My wife is a big fan of Willy Porter, and I usually accompany her to his shows at the Ark. I enjoy the music but am more of a hard rock fan. Well, I really enjoyed his latest show -- with string quartet. His songs were more intense. The sound was great and the focus of the musicians incredible. No matter what kind of music you like, you would love this.

Willy Porter: A Sonic, Visual and Visceral Feast!

by sibersong on 5/22/10SPACE - Evanston

Willy Porter offers up a blend of acoustic blues and funky-rootsy-folk. He plays a powerful, at times blazzingly fast, at times poetic, sometimes percussive guitar. Sometimes its hard to believe there isn't another guitarist AND drummer on stage with him. Despite the torrid pace he can set, he is always technically brilliant. On top of all that, he's got a great bluesy voice and a mischievous, poetic, intense, and down-to-earth stage presence. And does he ever have a great way of pulling the audience in! He's someone who can't be fully appreciated on CD; you really have to see him live to get the full sonic, visual and visceral effect of his music. Seeing him at a small, intimate and acoustically wonderous venue like Space in Evanston, you really get to appreciate just what a great performer Willy Porter is. Go see him if you get a chance! Watch his "Breathe", "Moonbeam", and "Jesus on the Grille" on YouTube. Justin Roth opened for Willy. Had never before heard Roth...a great discovery. Go to YouTube and watch his "Trembling Like A Train", "She Dances" and "Fatima's Waltz",

    Willy - great as always

by fineacoustics on 4/17/10Avalon Theatre - Easton

After an excellent opening act of Luke Brindley, Willy's solo performance was wonderful - as always. Great song selection, took requests, flawless playing, and exceptional audience interaction. Easy to get access to Willy after the show and the whole evening well worth the 2 hour drive to Easton.

    willy porter with a band!

by simplyt1 on 11/15/09Gordon Center for Performing Arts - Owing Mills

Willy brought 4 wisconsin musicians with him for this show a stone's throw from my house. As usual, the show was awesome. I'd never seen him with a backup band before (save martin barre at ramshead) so this was a special treat. The players were all very good, and even joined him onstage for the undoubtedly terrifying experience of improvising a song with the audience. We had a blast. Show was not quite sold out, so you'd better show up next time!

Willy Porter and the band were fantastic. It was a solid, smooth, beautiful musical journey. Love the new singer and the new album. Willy puts on a new show every time and they're all better than the last.

    FUN & FABU

by murphmaam on 10/28/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Wow, what a fantastic surprise! Willy is a WACKY fun guy. I didn't realize that there would be a whole entertainment side to his show, in addition to his excellent songwriting and musicianship. That was TOTALLY a great concert. I'd go again and again.

    Willy Porter is amazing

by corsdter on 10/24/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Wow... what can I say about Willy Porter.. The man is amazing... Due to a busy week, I hesitated going to his concert because I was tired.. this was one of those moments of no regret.. My husband and I had saw him the last time he was in Portland and loved the show then.. I must admit, he far exceeded our expectations. Maya from Raining Jane was an unexpected talent.. Why these two haven't had more commercial success is beyond me.. I felt moved by the entire concert (except for the long wait time between Raining Jane and Willy). You can see the love for the music in both of them. How Willy Porter can make a song out of suggested words from the audience is beyond me.. all I can say is talent.. The topper of the show was to see him spaz out with his neighborhood song, which I must admit made us crack up and gave us a much needed laugh. Over all.. had a great time and at any given opportunity will be back to see either one of these guys...
