About

Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.

    Willie is an Icon

by DTSoCal on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

Willie Nelson is a must see, even if you don’t like country music like me. He is an iconic performer who is a big part of our culture. His concert was great. Despite his age he sang one song after another, barely pausing between songs. The sound system at the Rady Shell was magnificent and magnified his voice throughout the venue. If you have the chance to see Willie Nelson take it.

    Too smoky

by Hayden on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

Could not see the stage. People were seated but rows were not tiered enough. Also the smoking and vaping was bad in our section.

    Great concert! Outstanding venue.

by EG on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

I concur totally with the review that appeared in the Union Tribune, and I couldn't say it any better. I will add that the food prices at the shell are outrageous and the food isn't that good. Management should let people bring their own food, or lower the prices. And the mta should add trolleys after the concerts. We waited a half hour for the Green Line trolley to Old Town.

I’m so glad we got to see him

by Beverley S on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to see Willie Nelson in concert. I’ve adored his music for most of my life. That being said, it’s time for him to retire. My husband is a musician and Willie couldn’t play a correct note on his guitar the whole night. I thought my husband was going to ask to leave after the second song. His singing was mainly him speaking the words and struggling to keep up. After a bit, he did better but it was very rough for the first few songs. Add to that the fact that a bunch of people sitting directly behind us talked loudly the entire show…. It was a disappointing night.

The concert was great, the seating not so much

by Jeff on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

The seating was very crowded. No one can walk to the aisle without everyone getting up. Willie Nelson was fantastic!

    Mellow but powerful

by Miss Ellie on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

I’ve loved Willie since the early 80’s, so getting to see him now, at the “prime” of his life was an honor. He came out in one of the most incredible venues, Radys Shell, sat down and graced us with his career span of songs. He was mellow and made us feel like we were in his living room like a bunch of old friends. I’m so happy I got to experience this man and his music.

    A nice evening

by PB from SD on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

Asleep at the Wheel was such a lively and entertaining group. I was movin' and groovin' in my seat. They looked like they were having a ball on stage, too. This was the first time I've seen Willie in concert. I do wish I would have seen him in his prime or even 10 years ago. I don't think he was feeling well at all. Hats off to even touring at 90. He did a lot of sing talking but that's ok. I still love Willie Nelson! The whole evening was lovely, despite a little drizzle in the air.

    Loved Willie but

by Benny on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

Willie is awesome and i thoroughly enjoyed his son. Wish they had played longer and/or done at least 1 encore. Would have felt more complete with an encode. Maybe Willie wasn't up to it

Venue has much to be desired.

by Nunya on 4/25/24The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park - San Diego

Ticket cost too much for a venue that was overpacked. Parking costs exorbitant as well as the cost of an adult beverage… 34 dollars for a beer and a rum and coke. In other words Willie did his best at 90 years of age and the Venue sucked. Last time I will see a concert there.

It was a fun night, didn't expect Willie to only perform for an hour, but considering his age, he did pretty well.

Rady Shell was a superb venue!! The sound quality was better than any other venue I’ve been to. The exit routes were a bit akward.
