The Tacoma dome staff was below par. There were no restrooms outside while waiting for the doors to open up. The restrooms inside were a mess. The garbage was overflowing and never picked up in section 195-206. WIAA ran a very good tournament!
Entering the dome is terrible. Opening one hour before start time is not enough time. If you are backed around the corner and your wrestler is one of the first to go, it becomes a mad dash. Need to open two hours before start time. This would also give some time to buy or order shirts. These guys need more stands and more people. The tournament itself was fantastic.
I believe you should bring in refs from other states that donât know any of the state finalist so it gives them a fair try. I also believe the refs should be better informed on what is a real injury and what is a stalling tactic when the player is being worked and wants to restart or delay!
People should not be allowed to sit in the stairs, blocking people's view and creating an unsafe environment. Also, during the final matches. Coaches and others were standing betwern the mats, watching the last matches and therefor blocking people's view.
Considering the effort and planning, all that goes in to pull this off year after year, I am not going to nitpick. If I could change one thing it would be re-paving the grass in front of the car museum for parking.
Seating was terrible; arriving when the doors opened to the public...seated had already been taken my the wreastling teams. Leaving no two together. Stood at the railings for two days...hoping to see my grandsons events. Need to rethink the team seating.
I loved the excitement of 24 mats buzzing with activity all day long! Teen athletes fighting their last fight of the school season, it was electric! I loved the announcer and the life he brought to the announcements. I loved the solos singing the national anthem. I was bugged by the man guarding his gate at the end. All other stairways were open for parents to join their teams who had placed first for their divisions except ours. We had to stay behind the gate and miss out on the team and parents picture. And I was too tired and hungry to battle with himâŚbut Iâm bummed now.
With all the rules and protocols TM has I was really appalled at the inconsistency of enforcing them! One employee will allow a purse...the next one not...And where the heck was the plastic bag sales????? The food was outrageously priced...and not good!!! The clincher for me was the limited numbers of wrestlers getting to walk in parade!!! So sad!
This wrestling tournament is phenomenal. All 24 mats going at once is a site to see.
The venue security and check in was prompt and efficient. The venue was dirty. Didn't even pick up garbage between each day. Bathrooms often out of paper towels. Food was limited. Floor was dirty of actual event. You could see the layer of dirt on mats laid down.
The rules seemed to change every day from mask mandate to what bags and items can be brought in.
The event itself is fantastic! There's constant action during the state wrestling meet and for many of these kids it will be the last time they set foot on a wrestling mat due to the demise in college wrestling in many universities. So, if we love the event, and we do, why the 3-star rating? Parking is way overpriced, as in most stadium venues, and the free parking is in a very dodgy part of town. The biggest reason for the 3-star review was the absurd clear bag policy that the Tacoma Dome was enforcing! My wife carries a modest purse about the size of a decent novel, but it was beyond the size of the allowed bag. What made this policy so ridiculous is that everywhere we went in the venue we were surrounded by backpacks, duffle bags, computer cases etc. that the participants and their families had brought in to the stadium. You can put a small child in some of the bags we saw but you can't bring in a handbag??? Really poor thinking on the part of the Tacoma Dome management!!
Too many people. 1B-2B mats not able to see mats. Too close to the side and security would not control! Okanagon spectators stood on the stairs and at the railing so they could see! We could not see mats and our wrestlers at All. Sat on the South side on Saturday and see much better but long ways away.
The wrestling itself was fantastic. The prices, the seating and amenities are way to high. $15 a day entry tickets, $20 to park, ridiculous food and drink prices. $5 for a bottle of water when you can buy a case for $4 a mile away. $1 movie candy for $5. Itâs a family event, make it more affordable.
As far as the matches it was very hard to follow . It was really was all over her place and out of order . I really couldnât tell what matches were going on
The event was very well done. Although I wish that they had given more notice as to starting early on Day 1. I missed my daughters first match. Other than that, staff was nice, people were great..second day was better
Super fun time, we had a great time great food great people. Not sure why some people were let in with bags and others not, I was pulled out of line between two people who had solid colored bigger bags than I did and was not let in while the others were. The staff failed to tell me they were lockers to store my things while I stood off to the side watching my nephews match online from the entrance (I flew there from Montana). A person in line pointed the lockers out to me. I went over and asked the attendant for help which he replied he didnât know. I needed to download an app in order to open the locker which I did, the locker did not open. I asked again for help from the attendant, he replied he didnât know. Frustrated and charged $12 for locker that didnât open, I walked back to my car and put my small purse in my car. The next day I did not bring a bag, but so many people in line did and were let in without any trouble or a second look. All in all we had a super fun time it was a great event and great for the kids, just frustrated with inconsistent rules.
We like that all the service there was excellent , bathrooms were clean , good staff
Historic place to watch wrestling nothing else like it.
I enjoyed the wrestling but hated that i needed to leave my purse, because of needing clear bags. It got stolen from my van with all my cards, memories, and work keys.
