About

More than fifty years ago, a show about New York City changed musical theatre forever. Now, it's come home to make history once again.

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents' book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim — a collection of standards that includes "Tonight," "America," "Maria," "I Feel Pretty" and "Somewhere" — is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. And the extraordinary, Tony-winning choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance.

This groundbreaking new production, directed by the legendary Arthur Laurents, offers a bold new design that builds on the show's raw power and emotion to create a fresh experience unlike any that came before it. Don't miss this thrilling presentation of a matchless work of art.

You would have thought you were on Broadway!

by hardgolf on 4/26/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Okay, maybe a bit too, but not by much. I have been waiting to put in my two cents worth since Saturday night because it was just that entertaining. The performers were top notch. When Riff started singing, we were blown away, but wait, could Tony even get near what we hoped for. YOU BETCHA! And Maria sang.....the most beautiful voice you could imagine. And with Anita and the remainder of the cast dancing and singing as well as they did for such a small theatre and company, it was amazing and fun. You could feel the audience enjoying it with you and the cast. I would go see it again if the cast was the same. LOVED IT

    West Side Story

Although I did enjoy the show, it did not meet my expectations. I was hoping for something a bit more professional. I can appreciate the hard work and effort of the actors and actresses and all others involved. There were some great moments like America and Cool, but the show as a whole was average on so many levels. At times I felt like a was watching a high school production. The costumes, sound, singing, acting were ok, but left me feeling it could have been better. I will say that the actress playing Anita really stood out to me, I feel she stole the show. She showed heart and gave depth to her character.

    Go to the movie

by DasBoot1 on 4/26/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Sorry to say, best not to waste two hours. The male actors were much too old to play teenagers, and quite a bit out of shape. Songs were not done well, and audio problems plagued the performance. Anita was the standout, but microphone flaws reduced her output.

    Always My Favorite

by ekakes on 3/9/16The Knockdown Center - Queens

Not knowing where I was going and what to expect, I was overwhelmed with the entire production. The stage was quite a setup making you feel like you were on the streets where most of the play takes place. The young adults, & a few older actors, some known & for others their first "real" acting experience, exuded tremendous talent. I was pleased to be sitting at a table with friends of the actress who played Maria. Overall it was AWESOME. And I must add the orchestra & maestro were terrific!

West Side Story- Once in a Lifetime Experience

by Swnmia on 3/8/16The Knockdown Center - Queens

The most phenomenal experience of a lifetime. Wonderful! Spectacular! Morgan Hernandez is a brilliant performer, and she's only 18. Incredible!......Bianca as Anita was flawless. Marin Alsop and the orchestra brought tears to my eyes, and I felt as if Leonard Bernstein himself was in the room. All performers were extraordinary. This will be next to impossible to top.

    Very talented young adults

by mrjak on 5/5/15Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

"West Side Story", my favorite show of all times was performed by a group of very talented actors. The music, dancing and singing was good, and at times great. The actor playing the lead male role, Tony, was exceptional, and sure seems to have a Broadway career ahead of him. The entire performance was received with cheers and shouts from the audience (many of whom were family and friends of the performers). Very entertaining evening.

    West Side Story

by Rococco on 5/4/15Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

West Side Story is iconic and to see the performance performed as badly as it was is disappointing. When I purchased tickets I did not know that the show would be performed by a high school troupe. However, I assumed that the production would still be entertaining. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The casting was wrong (Riff hardly looked the leader of a gang), the Jets were miscast (where was Ice), The Sharks were so badly cast words cannot describe. The rearrangement of the play was badly thought out. Why have a rooftop dance without the Sharks? The mike on the female during that song didn't work. The dancing was atrocious. Sgt. Krupke's number was after the rumble? The only grace saving part were the performances of Tony and Maria who both had good voices. All in all a terrible night at the Amaturo.

    I hope i forget!!

by ROGERvaz on 5/4/15Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

The cast were students from middle to high school. I was a teacher for 11 years so I felt it might bring me back to some great memories. These students that were trying kudos! I know nerves can get the best of you as children. However it seems as if they didnt practice at all some of the faces looked as if they didnt even want to be there. So neither did we! It was pain staking to try to find something nice to say. The lighting wasnt even prepared ...what a mess!

    children and west side story

by Tioda on 5/4/15Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

First of all: West Side Story is my favorite musical. I had no idea this play at the Broward Amaturo Theater was going to be performed by teens. I drove up from Miami in heavy traffic, invited 3 more guest to this event and we all had a full dinner (no quick meal facility available) before the show on Friday 5/1/15 at 7:30 PM. When the curtains opened and I realized teens were performing we were in shocked. I wanted my money back: ASAP! However,we decided to stay, watch and support them. The acting wasn't great, the dances were not coordinated and at times you couldn't hear the actors but at the end we had a great time! The actors playing Tony and Maria can really sing. Every actor on stage did their very best. I applaud them all. Id hope all their dreams come true in the acting world.

Play was good, though somewhat racist. Puerto Ricans depicted in a negative light at times notwithstanding the actual plot.
