About

More than fifty years ago, a show about New York City changed musical theatre forever. Now, it's come home to make history once again.

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents' book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim — a collection of standards that includes "Tonight," "America," "Maria," "I Feel Pretty" and "Somewhere" — is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. And the extraordinary, Tony-winning choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance.

This groundbreaking new production, directed by the legendary Arthur Laurents, offers a bold new design that builds on the show's raw power and emotion to create a fresh experience unlike any that came before it. Don't miss this thrilling presentation of a matchless work of art.

Wonderful production... the young cast was so generous!

by michael r on 7/15/19Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The venue, the orchestra, the singing, and the time-honored story added up to a remarkable evening. The switch from an urban settings to fields of light with single, bright colors was a nice touch.

West Side Not the Best Side

    by K. Y. on 7/14/19Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The Opera House is a lovely venue. I have attended multiple events there and have always enjoyed the convenience and the staff there. I received tickets for West Side Story as a gift and was unaware that it was a local production. In all fairness, the musical was well done but not the caliber I would expect for the price. The saving grace was Maria, whose voice and energy was far superior to the others. The play dragged a bit and we left at intermission as a result. I’ll be more mindful of the production company prior to paying over $75 per ticket in the future.

The singing was extraordinary, especially Maria and Tony. The change of scenes was good, nothing spectacular. The dancing was top notch but did not match the original routines.

    terrific rendition

The group had great voices and dance technique! They made West Side Story come alive again for me who was profoundly inspired by it (movie version) back in the early 60s.

    Excellent production!

by Caterwaulman on 3/15/17Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

A great production of an American classic. Ashley Marie was outstanding as Maria, her voice is truly phenomenal. The dancing was very athletic and sensual (especially Marlene Martinez as Anita) and true to the original film production. The sets, although minimalist, were very creative and evoked the urban setting of New York City. All in all a very enjoyable performance.

West Side Story: the music and characters you nev

by Lourdes818 on 3/15/17Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

My heart kept skipping beats all night as we watched the play, West Side Story. The music is dear to my heart, as I first read the story in Jr. High. It brought me back to my youth, so I truly enjoyed the play. The orchestra did a great job and the acting was spot on. We all loved it. Anitra was my favorite. What a great role. She stole the show!

    So Enjoyable

by Eilat on 3/15/17Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

They sang every one of the songs from the movie. The dances were great. Much of the movie was followed. For a real lover of the movie, this was GREAT. Oh, and the live orchestra- what a treat!

Best production of West Side Story I've ever seen

by PRomwall on 3/15/17Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

The combinatiin and balance of music, acting and choreography made this a flawless, moving production. The leads had fabulous voices and sang with commitment and feeling. There is added choreography in this production that showcased a talented group of dancers. The orchestra played besutifully, enhancing the bonus choreography and stitcjed the whole show together from the first moment until the curtain fell.

The main characters lacked the power they demand as strong personalities. Riff did a good job, but the others should express more emotion and comitment.

    No Wow Moments but....

by PlaneCrash on 3/14/17Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

Slow first act. Choreography was less than expected. Sound was a bit off for the seat location. Not sure i would go back unless the event was really something I wanted to see. But, better than sitting at home.

    Westside Story -extremely disturbing.

by Silvergram on 3/14/17Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

I have seen Westside Story onstage on Broadway & in Los Angeles and I have seen the film several times as have my grown children. This was my 11 1/2 -year-old grandaughter's first time seeing it performed onstage, but she had seen the movie. This production was different as it included a fairly graphic rape scene. It was disturbing to my grandaughter and it added nothing to the play. A production is scheduled to be in La Mirada in April. Do check about that scene if you plan to take a young person. Other than that, it was not the best show I have seen, but creative and pleasant.

This was a great show! The cast was so engaging and expressive, even from our nosebleed seats we could feel all the emotions they were portraying. The sound quality was excellent, the music and singing were great. Overall a fantastic performance!

    great but could be better

by Deeeerlene on 5/16/16California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

I really loved the the chemistry between the actors who played Maria and Tony. I was most upset with the sound. Each performer had their own mic which made the background noise very loud. Especially after the dance scene, mics weren't turned off so heavy breathing can be heard through the speakers. Also mics weren't turned on right away when a performer entered back on stage. The perform would start speaking, but the mic wasn't turned on until mid sentence.
