About

Almost four years after his first foray into unfamiliar concert territory with his highly-acclaimed Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour, "Weird Al" Yankovic is pressing his luck again, this time with The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour. The tour marks Weird Al's long-anticipated return to the concert stage after his hugely successful Strings Attached Tour in 2019 where he performed each night alongside a full symphony orchestra.

Once again drawing from his back catalogue of 14 studio albums, Weird Al promises to deliver a different set list every night, with no two shows the same. As before, rather than focusing on the hits from his career, the show will feature Yankovic's non-parody material - the somewhat more obscure pastiches and original songs that have largely escaped the pop culture radar but are adored by his long-time fans. And like the last Vanity Tour, he is leaving behind the high-octane theatrics that he's known for and going bare-bones - no costumes, no props, no video screens… just Al and his band of almost four decades in smaller, more intimate venues, hanging out on stage, playing music.

"Weird Al" Yankovic is the biggest-selling comedy recording artist of all time. A five-time Grammy winner, his 2014 release Mandatory Fun was the first comedy album in history to debut at #1 on Billboard's Top 200. He is one of only five artists to have had Top 40 singles in each of the last four decades, the other four being Michael Jackson, Madonna, U2, and Kenny G. On August 27, 2018 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce awarded Weird Al with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

    Sorely Disappointed

by Kathy on 2/5/23Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

Our family could not have been more disappointed with this concert. We purchased tickets on presale for our son's 13th birthday-he and his friends are huge fans! During the performance, we heard two songs which we were familiar with; everything else was original work. Now, don't get me wrong, Weird Al and his band are fantastic musicians, they just didn't play any music that anyone knew. Twice during the show, Weird Al said, "I'm getting a weird vibe from the crown tonight," which I'm not sure if it was part of his act, or if he really felt it. When I looked around the audience, I didn't see anyone really enjoying themselves. This concert needs to be promoted differently, so people aren't disappointed like us. He didn't play any of the parodies he is famous for. When we got to the car after the show, my son and his two friends asked, "How come he didn't play any of his hits?" I could not answer their question. Not only that, I dropped over $800 on tickets which I would have been completely happy about if I had seen any joy, smile, or laughter from my son and his friends. Instead, we left confused, frustrated, and sad. Really a poor show, and if I were you, I would not take my kids to see him if you are hoping to hear his cover music. I have never been so disappointed after attending a concert.

    Very fun, very loud

    by J. R. on 2/5/23Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

The show was great, super entertaining. My only complaint is that it was a tad loud and hard to understand him at times. Opening act was phenomenal.

HE DIDN'T PLAY ANY HITS...NOT EVEN ONE!!!

    by E. M. on 2/4/23

If I could have left ZERO stars, I would have. Weird Al thinks that because he called it the "Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity" tour, everyone knows he won't be playing any of his hits. There was no staging, props or videos, and definitely NO energy...just Weird Al, a drummer, a bass player and a guitarist, all seated through the entire show. A few times during the performance, Weird Al would comment to the audience that he felt a weird energy in the building, but couldn't figure out why. Hey Al, it's because 95% of your audience have never heard any of the songs you're playing!!! I paid $121 for an hour and 45 minutes of obscure songs, and not one hit. Not even during the encore. Did I happen to mention that he didn't any hits...not even one? He needs to rename the tour "I Ain't Gonna Play Any Of My Hits" tour. At least that way, everyone would know what to expect BEFORE they bought tickets.

I wish I would have gone to more of Weird Al's shows during this tour. The show was spectacular, so funny, and definitely a night I will remember forever. Emo Phillips was the perfect opener and I hope i have the opportunity to see him again. Highly recommend this show.

    Excellent show!

by KoolDeeMo on 10/30/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

This was my first time seeing weird al, but my son has been a fan for at least 25 years. I don't have any Weird Al albums and I admit that I was familiar with his material mostly through the movie UHF and his MTV parody videos. What we experienced at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh on wednesday, October 27th, was probably one of the best shows that I have ever seen. It was, without a doubt, the best sounding show I have seen in decades. The sun was pristine, not too loud. Everything was balanced and the tiniest nuances were easily discernible. I could hear every lyric owl saying and the band was never overwhelming at any point. As for the songs he chose, Al said early in the show that he had seen reviews on Twitter and elsewhere saying that people were disappointed because he didn't do his ,"hits. ". He explained that no, they were not going to be doing many hits, but instead a bunch of songs that everyone hates. What he had in the setlist was a very run through of his catalog and everyone was well worth listening to. What people overlook with Al's parody lyrics is that the musicianship and song structured behind every tune is exquisite. The band has been together for 42 years, and they did not miss one note or one beats. They exhibited great vocals and at one point saying some acapella Harmony that was simply stunning. No, I didn't do skits and imitate Kurt cobain, in fact the band sat on chairs throughout the set. Hey they're old and I get it. I'm old. It didn't detract from the show. If every Rock show had the excellent sound that this one did, I might go to more concerts. Even people who don't know much about Weird Al should attend these shows because they are excellent. Excellent musicianship great, funny parody lyrics, and a real sense of connection with the audience. These guys can play and they can sing. If you only like out because of his videos, I still don't see how you could be disappointed.

    50/50

Fun and entertaining. With the many obscure songs he has it was a good block of his songs. Everyone will wish he played other.

    Even the non-fans loved it!

by Douchey on 10/29/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

Weird Al always puts on a fantastic show. Multiple times, including this one, I dragged people along who were not fans and we’re not excited about going… But as usual they ended up loving it! There’s a reason people have been going to see him continuously since the 80s!

    Venue was terrible

by Christy on 10/29/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

Weird Al was fantastic but we paid a lot of money to NOT be able to see the singer from our seats. Additionally, the theater was an inferno. I’ve never been so uncomfortably hot in my life!

    A great time!

by BobG p on 10/29/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

Weird Al was a great show and a great time. My 14 year old son really enjoyed it. He played mostly his original songs, but did a medley of parody songs near the end of the show. I would definitely go see him live again. Emo Phillips opened for him and was very funny.

    Terrible show

by Bummed fan on 10/29/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

Who goes into a weird Al show thinking they aren’t going to hear his hits? I suppose I could have looked at the tour descriptor before I bought the tickets but again, no one thinks they will go to a weird al show and hear nothing but obscure album songs. He even warned us at the beginning of the show but everyone thought it was a joke. The crowd was dead the entire show and weird al had to notice that. Maybe he did and just doesn’t care since apparently his non hits are the premise of the tour. He did a god awful cover of a doors song that lasted over 13 minutes. As dead as the crowd was not one person left. Probably because they like me expected the hits to eventually be sung

    Fabulous

by Angel on 10/29/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

My brother is his biggest fan. My daughter Cloe my sister Renee and me wanted to make sure he got to see him before he got bed ridden. We got there at 430 and the staff let us get our VIP items before the crowd. Which was great. They made sure that he was good and we were able to do the meet and greet first. Which was very kind and unexpected! Thank you for making that night so fabulous for him and us!

    So Much Fun

by Ton of the Kirk on 10/29/22Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

Al and his band are wonderful and fun performers, they put on a fantastic show. Live music is always great and then have kept up the energy even though they are nearing the end of a long tour.
