Better than I expected!
by Barcodeman on 1/4/20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonMy wife urged me to get tix to the New Year's Eve performance in Edmonton and I landed seats in the fourth row. While the production began on a slightly squeamish and overly-earnest note, I sat back and took in over a dozen, beautifully-choreographed song and dance numbers. The staging is very innovative, doing a good job of evoking the futuristic setting of the story - which, admittedly, wasn't all that strong. (Like Mamma Mia, you take a bunch of unrelated songs from a single source and then try to craft a decent storyline with them - almost impossible!) As expected, the "encore" (which we all knew was coming because of its blatant omission - or reading ahead in the printed program) was an absolute blast! The young people performing in this production obviously enjoy what they're doing and the audience did too!
