Wayne Newton in Concert

The always suave Wayne Newton is — and will always be — Mr. Las Vegas. The classic crooner and entertainer even has a road named after him at Vegas' international airport. A consummate performer, Newton has been charming audiences since he was a kid, singing alongside his older brother Jerry. Once the young siblings made their way to Vegas — where they began performing six shows a night, six nights a week — Wayne was on his way to becoming a legend. Over the next several decades, Newton would solidify his VIP status, transforming from the boyish singer of the ‘60s to the debonair Mr. Entertainer of Vegas. He came to dominate Sin City, at one point becoming its highest paid performer. In total, he's logged over 30,000 live shows and counting. The King of Vegas continues his rule, presiding over Cleopatra's Barge at Caesars Palace with his intimate show, Wayne Newton: Up Close and Personal, in which he sings his biggest hits, shares his favorite stories and invites the audience to ask him anything.

Wayne Newton Background

Wayne Newton has been a star nearly all his life. Born Carson Wayne Newton in 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia, the young singer took to music early, learning how to play piano and guitar starting at age six. As his family moved around the country, from Ohio to Arizona, Wayne and his older brother Jerry honed their stage skills at local clubs and fairs. Their show eventually caught the eye of a booking agent, who invited the brothers to perform in Vegas in 1958. There, the sibling duo impressed crowds night after night for five years. Newton also made waves on the national level, performing on The Jackie Gleason Show and acting on the western TV hit Bonanza. In his early twenties, he was landing singles on the charts, including his signature version of "Danke Schoen" and "Red Roses for a Blue Lady" (still favorites at his performances). He was prolific throughout the 1960s and 1970s, releasing multiple albums nearly every year and scoring another big hit with 1972's "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast." By the mid '70s, Newton was already shedding his baby-faced image and fast becoming Vegas' must-see event. Decades later, he still reigns as Mr. Vegas, bringing in fans — young and old — to see the living legend do what he was born to do: entertain.

Keeping the Classic Era of Vegas Alive

by Denny on 10/3/23Bugsy's Cabaret at Flamingo - Las Vegas

I'm a big fan of the 1950s-60s era of Las Vegas entertainers. There's plenty of impersonators you can see on the strip, whether it be the Rat Pack or a variety of Elvis performers. But I chose to see Wayne for the authentic experience. He's really the last man standing from the golden period of Las Vegas personalities. To be completely honest I went in with tempered expectations. I knew Wayne was getting up there in years and I hadn't been able to locate any recently recorded music to hear how he sounds now. I was completely blown away by his show. Not only does he still sound great, but he hasn't lost an ounce of his energy or charm. The show is about 50% music and 50% show biz stories. I absolutely loved the format and could listen to Wayne tell stories about Sinatra, Elvis, Deano, etc all night. I'd urge anyone who is on the fence about seeing Wayne to buy a ticket. I was smiling from ear to eat through the whole thing. It was everything I wanted it to be: a celebration not only of Wayne's life and achievements, but a rare opportunity to be transported to an amazing time in show business history.

Mr. Las Vegas Up Close and Personal - Sept 2023

by ArubaJim on 9/30/23Bugsy's Cabaret at Flamingo - Las Vegas

After recent passing of Jimmy Buffett, decided to see the artists I've never seen before, especially the 'icons'. This was in an intimate theater setting, got to hear stories straight from Wayne as he sang about 15 feet away. Learned some new information, including that he plays many instruments without formal training and that he enjoyed his role in Vegas Vacation. The post-concert meet and greet was also worth the extra budget to shake hands and say hello to Mr. Las Vegas. Good show and recommend it to those wishing to see icons of the music world.

Wayne Newton as Mr. Las Vegas

by Missing you at Rama on 9/24/23Bugsy's Cabaret at Flamingo - Las Vegas

Excellent performance once again by Wayne. He hasn't lost his touch. Not only the music but the informal presentation of some very interesting facts about hi life. It's a once in a lifetime must to see.

    Great night

by Gia on 9/23/23Bugsy's Cabaret at Flamingo - Las Vegas

This was a really good show. He played a lot of instruments, and he went through his career through pictures, video and storytelling. The overall idea was he had a very positive and sweet outlook. His wife is beautiful and sweet and she was on stage with him. We had such a good time. I really respect his talent and how long he has been in show business.

    We thoroughly enjoyed the performance!

by rx on 9/18/23Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

What a treat! Not only did we get to see Wayne Newton perform, but we got to relive his performances with some of our great entertainers who have passed on. We did not know his story of how he started in show business. Luck always plays a part in getting discovered, but Wayne proves that hard work and perseverance are critical too.

by Bradensgrandma on 9/17/23Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

Wayne Newton is an amazing artist, his voice is getting a bit weak, but his show was amazing, I have seen him. I believe this is my fifth time in my lifetime. I’ve been in love with them since I was 13 and he never has disappointed me.

    THE CONSUMATE SHOWMAN!

by Kristi A on 9/17/23Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

Wayne Newton is AMAZING! His show business history is so incredible. I've never seen an entertainer who can make you feel like you know him just by seeing his show. His level of entertainment is above all others and, sadly, a dying art. Thankful to have seen the show!

    The BEST ENTERTAINER ANYWHERE!!!❤️💖

by Babs on 9/16/23Bugsy's Cabaret at Flamingo - Las Vegas

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Wayne Newton perform in person. What I can tell you is that I saw him in person for the first time in 1975 and I’ve gone to so many of his shows because he does the best job of making the audience laugh and enjoy his talent! He comes out smiling and singing and when I look around the audience, everyone is smiling right back at him. It’s very obvious that he always works to give the audience a memorable evening.

Wayne at the Ryman in Nashville

    by Michael on 9/13/23

I met Wayne outside the Ryman before he went inside. He and his wife were so nice and we took a photo together. He tells his life story basically (quickly) through his relocations and songs and other entertainers he meets. It’s fast paced. He was always engaged and never seemed to slip up on what he was trying to say. He remembered all of his routines. Of course he’s 81 and his voice shakes and breaks sometimes. Also he can be hard to hear sometimes. But the crowd was into it. Wayne was definitely happy to be there. So glad I got to see Wayne newton!

    Not really what I expected

    by Richie on 8/31/23

It was more of a retrospective than anything else. Lots of clips from his career over the years. Music was far too loud and either he Couldn’t sync up with the music or the music was just too fast. I guess my wife and I were expecting a concert but it was just a bunch of his career highlights with a few songs in the mix. I love Wayne Newton and his music but to say we were disappointed would be an understatement.
