Washington Wizards History

Founded in 1961, the Washington Wizards franchise has called Chicago, Baltimore, Landover, Maryland. and Washington, D.C. home. Known earlier as the Packers, Zephyrs and Bullets, the franchise changed its name to the Wizards in 1997.

After earning two playoff appearances in their first five seasons in Baltimore, the team started a formidable run of postseason success starting in the 1968–69 season. Led by Hall of Famers Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld (and later Elvin Hayes), the Bullets went to the playoffs 12 seasons in a row, including four trips to the Finals and a championship in 1978. Behind an MVP performance from Unseld, Washington defeated Seattle in a decisive Game 7 to clinch the title.

Five consecutive postseason appearances highlighted the Bullets’ 80s. The franchise bounced back in the early 2000s, built around the core of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. That trio led Washington to four straight playoff appearances from 2005–2008. Since then, the Wizards have qualified for the postseason five times behind All-Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, the latter of which became one of six players in NBA history to average 30-plus points per game in back-to-back seasons.

  • A bit of o chill in the air

by Chilly on 10/14/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the game. Shame on Wizards fans for not showing up. I would have given five stars, but subtracted one for facility temperature. Regardless of outside temperature, around the middle of the first quarter the air is pumped up to an arctic chill. Always too cold.

  • Wizards, LeBron, Lakers

by Marlon Greenday on 4/10/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I had a great time watching the Wizards vs the Lakers. I was in the 7th row, which are great seats. The only thing that would've made the experience better would be if food and drink venders came down there.

  • Nice evening at the game

Cheap tickets. No lines. Good sights from the Seats. Not so good teams (at this moment). Would recommend it to everyone.

  • Washington Wizards Review

by Trina on 4/8/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I took our son to the Wizards game and it was a first time for all of us. It was an overall great experience. We will definitely be back!

  • Amazing Time

by Guest on 4/7/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I purchased tickets for my son's birthday. I must say, the virtual view from the seats during my purchase were spot on. Our view was amazing and the game kept us engaged the entire time. The food in the arena was also top notch (Bun Papa). My only wish was that the seats were a little bigger/the space in-between the seats offered a little more room. That would allow you to comfortably eat if your neighbor isn't a part of your group. Or make the cup holders contract up to give a little more room between those of you that are together. All in all we'll definitely be back!!

  • A good enough experience

by SNL on 4/5/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

A good enough experience at Capitol One. Nothing overwhelming about the experience, but I think that the organization does the best that it can with the facility that they have. If you focus on the event, then it's fine. If you're looking for any other 'fan experience' extras, then you'll be disappointed.

  • The crew/staff in 113 is amazing!

by Lisa M. on 4/1/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Got a last minute ticket to see a Wizards game. I'm afraid of heights but I wanted to be close, so I got a seat in section 113, Row A. I told the crew/staff in section 113 (both at top and bottom of the stairs and the bottom to explain why a grown woman was so slow and had a death grip on the stair railing! This crew was amazing, encouraging, making eye contact with me, not rushing me. Tim was at the top and a sweet, sweet lady at the bottom, sorry that I didn't get her name. She saw when I almost missed a step - I swear she looked like she was ready to catch me! She was prepared, her eagle eyes were on the ready! It was a great experience all the way around. Game was great too!

  • Great

by Nunny on 3/30/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Entertaining. Great finish to the game both teams , very intense last quarter.

  • Awesome

by Juan Técnico on 3/24/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first time going to Capital One. I wanted to give a gift to a friend. Everything turned out spectacular. Great show. I would only add that there is a lack of more gastronomic offer, if I compare it with the Madison Sq.G.

  • Celtics

by CoCo on 3/20/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I am really a die hard Celtics fan and yes I’m from DC so I didn’t come to see the Wizards. I had a ball!!! And my plan is to go see my Celtics every time they come here lol!!!

  • The bag policy (SMH)game was good concert even BETTER

by Vet on 3/13/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The bag policy is horrible. It was cold. We stood in line. We went through a metal detector. My bag was searched....all of this just to get to a point where I was told my SMALL SQUARE BAG was too big. I had to go back outside in the cold to rent a locker. NOT HAPPY.

  • Fun

by Ash on 3/11/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I loved attending this concert series, the sound could have been better and if parking garage closing matched the time the game/concert ending that would have been a perfect night.

  • Great Game and Concert

by Shay on 3/11/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of my best experiences going to a game.

  • Great venue and game

by Me on 3/9/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The venue and game were great. Good could have been a bit better. Seats were way too close together. No leg room or room at all.

  • Sit in section 400 if you like to be squished

by Jo on 3/1/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I’m 5’7, 150lbs and was super uncomfortable in the seat. I felt like I was a taco shell and the person in the row in front of me was almost squished against my legs.

  • Misinformation

by Key on 2/28/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Over the game and experience was good however, there was no communication that you could only take small wristlets in and no other bags even clear ones. Luckily we had on jackets and was able to stuff our personal items in there. They made us purchase lockers. It was cool because it wasn’t that expensive however, it’s the fact of not knowing till you get there & being unprepared.

  • Wizards game and parking

by KOR on 2/13/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The process for securing my tickets and parking pass was great. The stadium experience was great, but the parking was horrible. I paid in advance to park in a garage and followed the directions via the app to the "T"on getting to the location. However, I was unable to access the garage I pre-paid for. The street closure around the stadium made it impossible for me to get to the garage, so I gave up trying and paid additional money to pay in a different garage within two blocks of the stadium. Other than that, using my Ticketmaster app to gain entrance into the stadium was easy.

  • Waiting until next year is getting old

by Billzebuub on 2/8/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

It's really tough to watch the Wiz this year. It got really bad at the end of last season, too. One can only hope that they don't expect all the talk and speculation about a new stadium will distract us from the fact the team is not worthy entertainment for a few MORE years!!
