Washington Wizards History

Founded in 1961, the Washington Wizards franchise has called Chicago, Baltimore, Landover, Maryland. and Washington, D.C. home. Known earlier as the Packers, Zephyrs and Bullets, the franchise changed its name to the Wizards in 1997.

After earning two playoff appearances in their first five seasons in Baltimore, the team started a formidable run of postseason success starting in the 1968–69 season. Led by Hall of Famers Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld (and later Elvin Hayes), the Bullets went to the playoffs 12 seasons in a row, including four trips to the Finals and a championship in 1978. Behind an MVP performance from Unseld, Washington defeated Seattle in a decisive Game 7 to clinch the title.

Five consecutive postseason appearances highlighted the Bullets’ 80s. The franchise bounced back in the early 2000s, built around the core of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. That trio led Washington to four straight playoff appearances from 2005–2008. Since then, the Wizards have qualified for the postseason five times behind All-Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, the latter of which became one of six players in NBA history to average 30-plus points per game in back-to-back seasons.

  • Good game..but

by Jerry on 2/5/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

It was exciting to see the game, my first NBA game. The experience was great; the one thing I will say is NBA fans don’t wait for stoppages in play to return to their seats around like….middle of a fast break, doesn’t matter, the entire row will stand up and let a bunch of people in and out…this happened about 10 times in the three rows in front of me. I’d recommend sitting in Row A of the section you’re in so you don’t miss any of the action…

  • Amazing but signal the bag policy

by Mike on 1/23/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The event was amazing and the entering/exiting smooth but you should really underline that the place or event had a strict no bag inside policy that forced me and many others in renting a box for the event for 15 bucks. Felt like a little robbery.

by georgeminjackHTTR on 1/2/24Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I had an amazing experience, I got tickets in Sec 113 Row A for an amazing price and saw a Wizards W. I got in early because I’m a Capital One Cardholder, didn’t have to use it just had to show it to them. Team store is amazing and same with the guest services and security. On top of that the Wizards won 110-104!

  • Event was good but The Experience was NOT

by JC on 12/30/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

Very confusing entries. Had a hard time to get in and not all entries offered the complementary plush, which we didn’t have one at the end after 20min of search.

  • Good deal

by DCguy on 12/16/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I bought my wizards tickets on a holiday special offer. If you live in the district the weeknight games can be a good deal. It's tough to beat seeing an NBA team for $20.

  • Good Acting

It was a good game, they could have played better defense.

Game was fun to watch even though we lost. The seating was wonderful really no bad seat, prices was over the top for food and drinks, recommend eat before go, a few nice places near by that you could come early and eat near the venue and save some time standing in line and let them keep the fourteen dollar beers
