Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

  • Great game

by UK Visitor on 9/21/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

First basketball game! Visited from the UK. Really enjoyed the experience. Would have preferred to print tickets at home instead of mobile only but the venue staff helped access wifi and the tickets for us.

  • First Playoff game...

by Jay on 9/20/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This was the Mystics first playoff game at their new stadium. There was excitement in the air, the energy remained at a high level throughout, and the Mystics won! The Rita’s Italian Ice was a great touch!

  • Mystics final game of the season

by Bexis on 9/12/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

This was my family's first WNBA game, and we had to travel from Philly to DC to do it. The game was entertaining, if not particularly close in scorer. Della Donne was clearly the best player on the court for the unfortunately low number of minutes she played. I can't blame the team for resting her, however, since most of the second half was non-competitive. One referee was terrible and ejected a player on the Sky for as far as I could tell, nothing at all. The arena, located in SE DC, was fine, if a bit hard to find. Unreserved parking was off-site, but there were frequent shuttles to the arena. Biggest drawback were long lines at concession stands, and not all items being available at all stands. We're UConn fans, not Mystic fans, and picked this game because the Mystics were the closest team to my daughter in Baltimore, and the visiting Sky had three former UConn players on it. We purchased the tickets months in advance, and lucked out, because the Mystics turned out to be the best team in the league.

  • Made better

There was a ticket mix up, and the staff there handle the issue with no problem. The replacement seats were GREAT

  • Great Venue and Excellent Team

    by D. on 8/21/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Found the Mystics new arena to be a really nice place - comfortable seats, good food options. General admission seats are a great value, as there is no really bad seating. A Mystics game is definitely worth the time and money!

  • Let's go Mystics

by Little Taste on 8/17/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great Arena, great game. EAS has some great employees, from the moment you exit the train station, they are right there greeting you and offering assistance. I have never seen this before. The entire time there, assistance was offered, always with a positive attitude. Arena gives you that at home feel. Glad Mystics have found a new home. Can't wait to go back.

  • Mystics vs Mercury

by Laura on 8/2/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

GREAT game! The Mystics were phenomenal as usual. 99-93 victory. How exiting for us sitting right behind the Mercury players and BRITTNEY GRINER!!! Fan girling for sure!!!

  • Good times, Go Mystics!

    by TrojanSkyCop1 on 8/2/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Very good experience overall. My only complaint that keeps me from granting a 5-star rating is the lack of drinking fountains at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.

  • Great atmosphere, great seats

by BigDaddi on 7/28/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Had a GREAT time at the game. There wasn't a bad seat in the house. Short walk from parking to the arena. Would enjoy more and stronger tshirt throwing.

  • Great time at the Mystics game

    by Chris R on 7/25/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The new sports arena was really cool. The fact that it’s smaller just makes fir a more intimate experience, where it can be loud in n support of the team. Being able to pay for parking in advance was a great benefit.

  • Great

    by Delaware19973 on 7/24/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was our first time at a WBNA game. We would go back. It was a good experience. The staff was not feeling that tell you were you go for your seat. Did not want to assist or look at the seat or row information. It is not worth taking away the star based how close you feel at the game.

  • Pretty good experience

by Shirley on 7/24/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Overall the experiece was great, however, I purchased floor seats underneath the basket on one end of the Court. Multiple times I had the camera man that gives the big-screen feed to the arena stand up and block my view. It was becoming quite annoying that during breaks in the game, my view of the Court was obstructed because he would not move out of the way. I felt like if I paid the price to have courtside seats, I should be able to see the entire game and to see all the events that take place on the court during timeouts and halftime. Other than that, my experience was fantastic.

  • Great game

  • Exciting Game

    by Irish78 on 6/4/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Game was great and a lot of fun on opening night. But the signage for the arena and the parking is nonexistent and no better than it was for NBA G-League game of the Capitol City Go Go last fall.

  • Great game, horrible traffic control

by LoveMysticsHateTraffic on 9/16/18EagleBank Arena - FairfaxRating: 1 out of 5

We were happy to find out that the WNBA Finals home games for the Mystics would be played at GMU/EagleBank, just a half hour from our home. However, it took way more than a half hour to get there and in our seats to watch the game. The traffic control getting in to EagleBank Arena was either horrendous or non-existent because we were gridlocked for over an hour on Braddock Road. We paid $200 to see 3/4 of the game since we didn't arrive until the 2nd quarter because of the traffic. Another annoyance, although small in comparison, was that there was not a bag-free lane to use for entrance. We had to wait behind those with bags getting them inspected before we were allowed in. Rather frustrating given our 1 hour 45 minute (instead of 30 minute) trip to EagleBank Arena. Even though the Mystics lost, we were treated to a great game, and once we we finally got in, the rest of the experience was fantastic. Unfortunately, we will not return for any event at GMU/EagleBank because of this unbelievable and beyond frustrating experience just getting in to the arena.
