Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

  • Awesome Time

by Rosalyn Sims on 8/25/21Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The game was so awesome!!! I got to sit close to the Mystic bench. They picked me to play a game in the 3rd quarter. It was the best. Won a autograph picture when they won the championship in 2019. I hung in my husband’s Mancave. Thanks for a great time.

  • Best Game Ever

by JustG on 10/13/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The Washington Mystics are an amazing group of women that play together and respect one another. I cannot remember or see a team so focused on the same goal and will do all they can to achieve that goal. The game was great and the complete dedication by ALL was seen and felt that night.

  • Go see the Mystics!

    by L. N. on 10/13/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The WNBA finals game was packed full of excitement and intensity. The teams played at full speed and made some amazing plays. Very entertaining and the crowd is energetic. Will definitely come back for games next season. Reminds me of my college game days.

  • Mystics win!

by VA golfer on 10/13/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Maybe the first and only time that I can afford a ticket to the decisive game of a major-league sport. Tight, defensive game between the Mystics and Sun until the late offensive breakout by the former and eventual winner. ESA is a small, new venue. Near sellout crowd. Easy access. Though I had no problem, the required mobile- only ticket had me sweating bullets. Too much of an assumption that the technology will always work. Of course, it won't. Ticketmaster should allow print-at-home as a backup.

  • Best ever

Excellent experience from initiation of thought through departure from gams.

  • Loved it. Great experience

    by J. H.O. on 9/23/19Entertainment & Sports Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Loved it all. The only problem was that I couldn't get parking prior to coming so I was worried that I wouldn't find parking. But, when I got there, it was no problem at all. Everything worked out well.
