Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

  • Harding was a beast driving the lane.

by Koolkev on 7/28/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I would recommend anyone if they haven't been to a Mystics (wnba) game, they need to go. The atmosphere is electricfying. The fans including myself really get into the action. First class treatment. Great fundamental basketball. These girls can play. You meet new people (fans), talk about the game, etc. I love it.

  • COLEMAN THE BOMB

    by BORNINDC1952 on 7/28/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I ENJOYED THE GAME . I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE IN OUT PLAY , LANGHORN IN THE MIDDLE MAKE THE OTHER TEAM DEFEND HER THAN GO TO YOUR SLASHER AND OUTSIDE SHOTS.

  • Good Action

by BigHud on 7/27/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a pretty good game. Both teams have some very exciting ballers that can get up and down the floor. I enjoyed the game.

The WNBA is great for all ages. Tickets are affordable and the players a very interactive with the crowd. Great seats for 1/4 of the price of NBA tickets. Great for the little girls in your life to go and see.

  • Took foreign exchange student

by Tatapa on 7/27/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Took a foreign exchange student who plays basketball in her country to see our professional team. I thought the Monarchs played a better game as it appeared they made a higher percent of their attempts, whereas the Mystics were rather sloppy and couldn't get the basket. They didn't have anyone under the basket for rebounds where they could have recovered the ball and got another shot at it. Enjoyed the 3 pt., shots which were right on the money. Overall, it was a fun event.

  • Washington Mystics is a "must see!"

by Simonsmom on 7/24/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I bought these tickets for a friend's birthday and had no idea we would be sitting right on the floor behind the opponents bench. Fantastic seats with the exception of the toothless wonder behind who kept spitting on us. Hat's off to the ushers who did a terrific job trying to contain him without actually throwing him out. Aside from that, the game was awesome!!

  • Mystics Buzzer Shots Fall Short

by LPDCO on 7/23/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The game was pretty close down to the very end. The seats were good. Especially since the shot that would have been a game winner for the Mystics was right in front of us. The crowd was so into it -if we could have made the point it would have happened with our enthusiasm it would have happened!

  • Coleman and Langhorne are a great team!

by SLWinVA on 7/22/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Although the Mystics lost last night, the game was entertaining! Marissa Coleman and Crystal Langhorne are local crowd favorites! In number the fan turnout was average, but the excitement level was high, especially when one of these U of MD alums made a shot. Buy the family fun pack, it's a great deal! We got great seats and a hot dog, chips and soda for each of the four of us. My sister and I took our 3 year old daughters and they were very entertained by the time out games as well as the Lucky Bunny Mystics Mascot. If you like basketball, it's definitely worth it!

  • If you haven't seen them in person, you should!

    by Isabelle322 on 7/15/09Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The WNBA is improving exponentially each year. When you go to a Mystics game, everyone that's there, wants to be there, so the atmosphere is electric. It's not like other professional sports where you go just because you don't want to waste the ticket. The fans are really genuine. As for the team: Alana Beard is fantastic to watch and her supporting crew is getting better every game. Marissa Coleman, the rookie of the squad, was injured on the 20th, but is back on the scene and definitely one to watch. From what I've heard this is their best season/team ever, so if you've been on the sidelines, it's time to check in.
