Washington Mystics History
The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

Washington Mystics at CareFirst Arena
CareFirst Arena, formerly the Entertainment and Sports Arena, has been home to the Washington Mystics since 2019. Opened in 2018, the 4,200-seat facility was built in the Congress Heights neighborhood of southeast Washington, D.C. Fans have historically packed home games, with the Mystics leading the league in attendance for six of the team’s first seven seasons. CareFirst Arena hosted three WNBA Finals games in 2019 during the Mystics’ eventual championship run. In 2024, the Mystics helped set the all-time WNBA single-game, regular season attendance record with 20,711 fans at Capital One Arena in a matchup against the Indiana Fever.

Great environment, family friendly, great crowd, great team!! I can go on, but I shouldn't. In any case, I would highly recommend Mystics games for any DC family looking to have a great time!!

Alana Beard really showed her talent along with Marisa Coleman. I really enjoyed the enthusiasm of the coach and the team. I liked how they showed defense in keeping C. Holdslaw at bay! The Washington Mystics is a fun team to watch.

There are too many disappointments in life and to pay good money and then walk away with a loss just adds to lifes many disappointments. I know we can't win every game but the one I go to please win.......It makes such a big difference.

Home Opener Thriller

The Atlanta Dream tried hard to dash the hopes of the hometown crowd, but the Mystics held on and gave us early signs of what they're about this season. With a true point guard at the helm in Lindsey Harding, the marquee players got to play their game and Ms. Beard put up huge numbers and entertained us all. Rookie standout and local fav, Marissa Coleman made her presense known and it was great to see the former UMD stars (Crystal Langhorne and Marissa) together again. A team to be proud of! No doubt!

Candance Parker is a great player, but she struggled mightily against the Mystics defense. Alana Beard was the star of the game. She was focused and determined throughout the game. I enjoyed the entire game.

This was the best game to come to to see many of the superstars in one arena and one game. The game was worth the travel(4 hours). I will definitely find time to come back and go to another game.

Mystics extinguish Sparks

In the fourth quarter, the Sparks came back to tie the game at 63-63. The Sparks must have ignited something in the Mystics because they got the lead back and never let it go! The Mystics extinguished the Sparks, 75-63.
VIP is the way to go

The Mystics came out ready to win. They scored first and went from there. The LA Sparks did provide some tension. At one point the game was tied up but the Sparks never got in front. This was my first Mystics game and I was very impressed. I would do it again and again.

WNBA experience

We had great seats behind the rim (floor level), and fairly inexpensive ($70/ea). If you are a fan of sports, and the live-entertainment feel, this is an inexpensive and great way to get out of the house and have a good time! p.s. went to the Mystics/Mercury game on June 25th (1st WNBA game I've ever attended), and had the same great experience. The only reason I didn't give it 5-Stars is the game goes by REALLY quick with only 10-minute quarters.
