Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

by Josieyxxxx on 7/17/11Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This was an exciting game, lots of action and comeback. Unfortunately the Mystics couldn't buy a 3 pointer when they needed it. Overall the game was exciting and worthwhile.

  • One of the better games I've seen

I've been to WNBA games in Chicago, NY, and DC and DC has the been the best fan base I've encountered.

Had an amazing time with my family and friends at this event.

  • Great win!!!

    by Nikki09RN on 6/28/11Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great!! The best part of this event was the "W". The Mystics won!!! I can't wait until the next game. I'm a registered nurse and my schedule is a little busy. Taking time off is sometimes challenging BUT this event make everything much better. Again, great game.

  • Great Seats

by SixDeuce on 6/20/11Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My lady and I sat two rows behind the players bench. We could hear the huddle conversation during the timeouts. If the game had been televised we would have been on TV. The Mystics surged back and made it an exciting game in the closing minutes. We had a great time. We felt like we were part of the game.

  • Mystics are boring and need better coaching

by teemacTNT on 6/18/11Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

It didn't seem like they had any plays. I didn't see them setting up to take inside shots. Also no flashy moves. That makes watching basketball exciting. The best player was Kelly Miller. If you go to a game, go with fun friends so that it won't be a total waste. The cost of this event for me was (17.00 ticket + 5.00 service charge + $13.00 metro rail + parking) $35 without food or drink.

I really enjoyed the game although the Mystics lost but the played a good game. My seat was wonderful 4 rows behind the home teams bench, the was loud and seem to have knowledge of the game. I plan to attend again very soon.

  • Playing it Safe

by Favoritecolor on 6/13/11Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoyed that they played the 2-point shots safe and that they did now try to make bad 3-point shots. I do wish that we had players that could make good 3-point shots. They did very well from my point of view during the second half. They need more energy and confidence for the first half. They made it up but unfortunately the Chicago Sky number 33 was the blow out to the home win. Keep up the faith and keep up the good work. You still are a great team.

Had a good time prices to WAY TOO HIGH at concessions would attend more events if it wasn't for that

  • Mystics cynch it!

    by ADM65 on 8/25/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The Mystics played a relaxed but planned game against the New York Liberty. The scoring was low but the intensity was high. Good communication and ball movement on the floor. A lot of players have 'stepped-up' their game; no wonder they're going to the playoffs!

  • Very Exciting Game!!!

by JoyfulJ on 8/23/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My co-worker I enjoyed the game very much except for the fact that she was not able to focus because of seating on the side at first. The Mystics fought hard until the very end... both teams were eager to win... and poindexter never gave up...the competition was great! Congratulations to Mystics on winning first place and obtaining Eastern Conference champs....

  • WNBA ACTION IS FANTASTIC!!!

    by Chococat73 on 8/23/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

We had an awesome time at the Mystics/Liberty game at the Verizon Center! The venue is really nice, the atmosphere was fun and friendly, the crowd was totally into the game and, with the down to the wire finish, it was an incredible and exciting game.

  • Great Game!

It was a great game and a great win for the Mystics!

  • We went to watch the Seattle Storm

by JJfromSeattle on 8/17/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

We are from Seattle on a long driving trip through the US. We watched the Storm in Minnesota a week ago and could not resist seeing them again when they were in DC the same time we were. The Mystic fans were very nice, warm, welcoming, and VERY enthusiastic. We loved the stadium, although we could not get good tickets. They were supposedly sold out, but judging by the size of the crowd and the number of empty seats this obviously was not the case. We almost didn't go because of the bad seats. But it ended up being fun, even though our Storm lost. We go to Key Arena in Seattle a lot, and the game in the DC Verizon Center was the first time we have been on the jumbo tron. And not once, not twice, but three times! The girl who did the human interest spots throughout the game was very good and we enjoyed watching her. All in all this was a positive experience, although sadly for us the Storm team lost.

  • Great game

by Arlingtonmysticsfan on 8/16/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Mystics beat Seattle, the best team in the league. The game was very fun and the seats were good. So much more reasonably priced than the Wizards. Great experience all around. I would definitely go again.

  • Go Mystics!

The Mystics game was awesome! I can't wait to see what the team has in store for the future!

  • a game worth winning

by Anonymous on 8/16/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Man!!!!!!!! It was great. Hats off to the Mystics and push that Monique Currie gave them. Her shot is so silky smooth. From the time the ball touches her hand through the end of her follow through. Just spectacular. My mouth was in awe as I had a seat next to their tunnel being able to see them that close. It was only my second game but it was great. Can't wait to see more in the near future. I've been a WNBA fan since the beginning.

  • I love the WNBA

    by Scotty06 on 8/16/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Late season game, not as important for Seattle as it was for Washington, but still had a high level of play, good crowd, great environment, all in all a great experience at a very low price.

  • mystics play hard...

    by mystics1fan on 8/16/10Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Purchasing tickets to the mystics games are well with the money. They do not get the advertisement that they deserve. They are basketball at its best... teamwork and the audience is spectacular! My family loves their games better than the wizards. They show the true fundamentals of balling. Thanks ladies!
